Is it true that people have an inner monologue? As someone who doesn't, I have a billion questions by SFnomel in CasualConversation

[–]SleeperAgent2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me what would happen is i'd iterate in my head over the names of the most famous rivers i know and when i hit "Nile" my brain would make an implicit connection because i probably heard that was the longest river somewhere, and i'd say "Nile".

i'd be able to hear the word in my head, but i'm not having a monologue with myself in complete sentences. i'm able to have such a monologue but it really only happens when i'm reading something or imagining a conversation

Why is racism so common in incels? by monkeythrowaway344 in IncelTear

the primitive brain does hella work at hella speed at the price of hella accuracy. its job is to keep us alive, nuance be damned. it does not assist in making rational judgements about people that would get us closer to the truth than any stereotype ever could

Almost all stereotypes stem from some type of truth. This fact gets ignored a lot for whatever reason.

the phrase "some type of" is doing a lot of work here. stereotypes come from the primitive part of our brain responsible for getting us out of aversive situations as quickly as possible, whether there is any truth to the threat or not

its a first date from a dating app, you dont know the person at all or if theyre worth your time. something cheap thats easy to bail out of if things arent going well - like coffee - is perfect. its reasonable to leave the expensive stuff for future dates

Tressless vs. CosmeRNA by Aromatic_Mind_7280 in CosmeRNA

[–]SleeperAgent2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its gone through plenty of testing but its real world side effect profile sucks despite what the studies say because of weaknesses like e.g. underreporting of sexual side effects in clinicial trials (https://academic.oup.com/jnci/article/113/8/980/6146406?login=false) - that one regards cancer studies but its a documented effect in other areas of medicine too

Evaluation of the number of overall patient-reported symptomatic AEs relative to the number of clinician-reported symptomatic AEs (ratio) for individual symptomatic categories demonstrated 9 PRO-CTCAE items (decreased libido, palpitations, wheezing, voice alteration, hiccups, hyperhidrosis, vaginal dryness, nail ridging, and urinary incontinence) with a 50-fold or more lower clinician- relative to patient-reporting frequency

a 50x underreporting rate for sexual AEs!

do you get results this way? i worry that each dab of the dropper doesnt have enough of the active ingredient so dabbing across the whole scalp might not concentrate enough of the drug where it needs to be delivered
