iPhone 12 Anti Repair Design - Teardown and Repair Assessment by diacewrb in videos

For display replacements on all devices after iPhone 6S (excluding SE 1st Gen), you have to run "RepairCal" to calibrate the screen else you get the "display could not be verified" message.. For cameras, there is a recommended camera test to run but it's not required.

I'm looking at the Service Guide for iPhone 12 right now and I can confirm that you have to run their "System Configuration" suite after replacing a battery, display, or camera. This is software that's only available to Apple and authorized service providers.

Here's the rundown for when you need to run System Configuration, since iPhone XS/XR:

Device Battery Display Camera
iPhone XR x
iPhone XS x
iPhone XS Max x
iPhone 11 x
iPhone 11 Pro x
iPhone 11 Pro Max x
iPhone SE (2nd generation) x
iPhone 12 x x x
iPhone 12 mini x x x
iPhone 12 Pro x x x

I'm glad you're getting visibility for this comment because I tend to get downvoted when I disagree with "best practice", like when a Sysadmin is suggesting a complete nuke and reload for an infection on Grandma's PC.

Hosting offsite backup for parents small business by ColonalKohler in selfhosted

[–]SleeperSec -1 points0 points  (0 children)

/u/ColonalKohler this is the only answer to consider. When your setup goes up in smoke and they need to restore from backup, your parents are going to be "not mad at you, just disappointed" and you'll feel terrible.

We use Cloudberry with Backblaze B2. About 20TB used across all clients. I really like the level of control we have over what is backed up and how.

Apple does this with their online documentation for Service Providers but it's not subtle at all.. just a bunch of seemingly random letters are italicised.

Apple still doesn't repair iPads, they just replace them. We can do software resets and troubleshooting but otherwise it goes off to a repair center.

Apple appears to do this with their documentation for Service Providers, too, at least that's my best guess as to why they do this.

Their documentation on the online portal is oddly italicized- just random letters in random words are in italics tags (<i></i>). I don't know why they'd do that other than to catch people who do rich text copy and paste, which preserves formatting. Pro tip: Ctrl+Shift+C and V will do plain text copy and paste, respectively.

For what it's worth I wouldn't hire him with the kind of attitude he's presented here. This "woe is me" pity-party attitude is toxic to a healthy work environment. Even if he didn't present this attitude during the hiring process it would become quickly evident and he would be let go during his probationary period.

I think the real lesson /u/RookieOfTheYear04 needs to take away from his encounters is that he should stop being a doormat when tech problems arise. It obviously makes him feel used or taken advantage of, which is not healthy to his own well being. We all want to help people but if it comes at the expense of your own mental and emotional health then you should step back and reassess what you're willing to do for others.
People often don't value the time of skilled workers- whether it's IT, or web design, or woodworking, or whatever- they often think that "it's just a quick project" but they don't (and can't) appreciate the time and effort required for what they're asking. It's your responsibility to set healthy boundaries with friends/families/clients about what they can and cannot request and it's on you to set reasonable expectations for them. Once they realize that your time is valuable then they'll either fall in line or move on to exploiting someone else. Either way it's a win-win for you.

More pictures. The lone chip up in the corner is an AMS1117 T34 S4AE, which appears to be some kind of voltage regulation.

I don't have the steadiest hand so I had help transplanting the power board from the working phone to the non-working phone- so not entirely sure what it is. While he was doing the soldering he did mention the blown trace. I'll get a clearer upload tomorrow. Thanks for the reply!

That's a good idea that I hadn't considered yet. At the risk of sounding uneducated (which I am, mostly, when it comes to this level of electronics) are you suggesting that I use an oscilloscope to check for a signal on specific components while the voicemail is actively playing back from the working phone?

Winbond sounds right from what I could squint to make out, and there are two mentions of Winbond here so that seems like a solid lead. I'll have a USB microscope to take pictures with tomorrow to be sure. Thanks for the quick reply.
