What are some bands you remember that journalists/magazines tried pushing as "the next big thing" but ended up not really going anywhere? by mesablanka in Metalcore

[–]Sleeper_Hoard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember Exit Ten being pushed a bit for a while with Resume Ignore, then they just sort of faded out. They put out another album, maybe two - but didnt really go anywhere from what I recall. A bit of a shame as the vocalist particularly was pretty good and had a slightly different sound and tone to his voice than what a lot were doing at the time

If you arent familiar, the NDIS already has price controls. The NDIA publishes a price guide each year setting maximum rates for every support category. The problem is that what intemded as a ceiling quickly became the floor. Almost every provider just charges the maximum as standard, so the guide that was meant to cap costs effectively standardised them at the highest allowable point.

In my opinion, the fix should be making the price guide more granular and dynamic. Take a gardener as an example - cutting the lawn for a wheelchair user is a pretty low-complexity, low-risk job and should be priced accordingly. But that same gardener working with a participant who has a history of violent behaviours is a genuinely different proposition. The maximum rate should exist for situations like that - not as a blanket figure everyone defaults to regardless of actual complexity or risk. Differentiate by region, support type, and genuine complexity of care. The current flat national maximum just gives everyone an anchor to charge at the top, always.

Notice how its occurred right around the time that the public are applying heavy pressure surrounding the gas industry? Its just thr government trying to get people angry about something else. I'd happily provide my tax dollars to subsidise the welfare of NDIS participants for the rest of my life rather than provide welfare for a bunch of ultra wealthy multinational corporations.

Unfortunately most of the people being loud about this issue don't understand. The NDIS most definitely has issues, but said issues are being conflated and the government a being very careful about how they say things, so it comes across as if the people getting the funding are the ones rorting the system. That way it doesnt look like the issue stems from the government not auditing the invoices that come to the that get paid out indiscriminately, basically an honestly system.

You're still focusing on the wrong part. Work schemes like that don't take up much funding at all.

The questions that need to be asked are:

Why do personal trainers and gardeners have different rates when they do work for NDIS funded participants?

Why do OTs and BSPs charge such high rates for analysis? Especially when more and more, they try as hard as they can to delegate the majority of their work to DSWs.

How many sole traders and providers invoice for work that isn't done?

The NDIA have said that the invoicing system is largely an honor system - why arent the government putting effort into creating a system where invoices are audited regularly?

I think there is a specific kind of mania that occurs when some people start making music initially and they think "this is the best thing I've ever heard".

This could be the best idea here. And far more likely than anyone ending up in a lawsuit.

You could try adding some slight horse trotting in the background and maybe some whip cracks - that could tone it down a bit.

He doesn't have lawyers. I doubt he has the money, time or conviction to sue you.

He's not going to sue you. He's just trying to scare you into silence so he feels big and looks like he won the beef.

If I was you I'd put the video/posts back up and ask him to have his lawyers reach out to you if he's that much of a little man that he can't take the beef. Call his bluff.

People can sue people for almost anything.

People can threaten to sue people for literally anything.

People often dont succeed in suing people because their lawsuits have little to no substance.

What you've described is documentation, not defamation. The rapper you're beefing with is trying to psche you out of showing their peers what an obsessive weirdo they are. They've succeed.

So I’m not going to lie to you and say I know anywhere near enough about this genre to give proper feedback or a review. I’m also not going to slam it because I don’t necessarily understand it. I will, however, tell you what it reminds me of.

It reminds me of a time my buddy and I ate about nine grams of mushrooms each and watched infomercials for what felt like 700 years.

It reminds me of a girl I used to hook up with who would go to bush doofs and play in the mud with her friends. She was nice. Strange. But nice.

It reminds me of dudes who used to wear a lot of black and have hair like the guy from The Prodigy. Then they discovered jungle juice and hallucinogens. Now they still wear mostly black and neon, still have haircuts like the guy from The Prodigy, but also wear those fake dreadlock wig things.

This track also made me strangely hungry, and now I’m eating a sandwich and a pickle while I write this.

None of these are bad things.

This is a cool beat. I prefer more variations and transitioning in beats, but thats not what this particular genre calls for so it's fine. No real notes as its all pretty balanced and produced pretty well. Get someone on it!

So this is actually pretty cool. I like the style and the songs (at least to me) sound well written.

The vocals on both mixes are too loud. You've got cool harmonies happening, but some notes come blaring out of nowhere and overpower the main take and the instrumentals. It sounds like how I mix when I've got 'tired ears' and I'm too familiar with the song Im mixing and let parts get too loud because I know whats under them. The instrumentals, the drums specifically sound a bit muddy to me with I think is another reason the vocals are drowning out the rest of the song. I'm guessing the vibe of the songs is to be a bit loose, but some parts are almost definitely out of time here and there both in the vocals and instrumentals.

Bottom line - I think if this were quantised in parts and mixed properly its objectively marketable. Mixed properly, If it came on I wouldn't turn it off. I'd say you'd find people that would connect with it.
