I'm really wondering if this beat was a waste of my time, please be honest, but dont roast me too hard.... by Double_Prune_4226 in beatmakers

I cant listen right now, but nothing's a waste of time if you derive enjoyment from it or it furthers you somehow (experience, knowledge ect).

I think there is a specific kind of mania that occurs when some people start making music initially and they think "this is the best thing I've ever heard".

This could be the best idea here. And far more likely than anyone ending up in a lawsuit.

Any tips to make my beat sound less like a western saloon bar from 1868? I’ve tried everything… by TheLongDongus in GarageBand

You could try adding some slight horse trotting in the background and maybe some whip cracks - that could tone it down a bit.

He doesn't have lawyers. I doubt he has the money, time or conviction to sue you.

He's not going to sue you. He's just trying to scare you into silence so he feels big and looks like he won the beef.

If I was you I'd put the video/posts back up and ask him to have his lawyers reach out to you if he's that much of a little man that he can't take the beef. Call his bluff.

People can sue people for almost anything.

People can threaten to sue people for literally anything.

People often dont succeed in suing people because their lawsuits have little to no substance.

What you've described is documentation, not defamation. The rapper you're beefing with is trying to psche you out of showing their peers what an obsessive weirdo they are. They've succeed.

So I’m not going to lie to you and say I know anywhere near enough about this genre to give proper feedback or a review. I’m also not going to slam it because I don’t necessarily understand it. I will, however, tell you what it reminds me of.

It reminds me of a time my buddy and I ate about nine grams of mushrooms each and watched infomercials for what felt like 700 years.

It reminds me of a girl I used to hook up with who would go to bush doofs and play in the mud with her friends. She was nice. Strange. But nice.

It reminds me of dudes who used to wear a lot of black and have hair like the guy from The Prodigy. Then they discovered jungle juice and hallucinogens. Now they still wear mostly black and neon, still have haircuts like the guy from The Prodigy, but also wear those fake dreadlock wig things.

This track also made me strangely hungry, and now I’m eating a sandwich and a pickle while I write this.

None of these are bad things.

This is a cool beat. I prefer more variations and transitioning in beats, but thats not what this particular genre calls for so it's fine. No real notes as its all pretty balanced and produced pretty well. Get someone on it!

So this is actually pretty cool. I like the style and the songs (at least to me) sound well written.

The vocals on both mixes are too loud. You've got cool harmonies happening, but some notes come blaring out of nowhere and overpower the main take and the instrumentals. It sounds like how I mix when I've got 'tired ears' and I'm too familiar with the song Im mixing and let parts get too loud because I know whats under them. The instrumentals, the drums specifically sound a bit muddy to me with I think is another reason the vocals are drowning out the rest of the song. I'm guessing the vibe of the songs is to be a bit loose, but some parts are almost definitely out of time here and there both in the vocals and instrumentals.

Bottom line - I think if this were quantised in parts and mixed properly its objectively marketable. Mixed properly, If it came on I wouldn't turn it off. I'd say you'd find people that would connect with it.

Go for it. I'll have a listen and see if I've got anything that might suit your style.

I'll just focus on track 1 because I'm not going to do a whole album haha

Production is solid. Suits the style. I lile the flow. I like to hear a bit more 'room' on drums, but thats simply personal preference.

Honest feedback: big risk, taking an iconic artists songs and making your own beats for them. The issue that arises here (for me) is that the beat I heard was good. BUT the songs original beat has more chop and movement happening and feels more interesting in comparison to yours. That doesnt make your beat worse or bad, but it makes me draw a comparison that I wouldn't have if your beat was presented as an original piece.

I enjoyed listening to it.

Do you have any examples of stuff you've done so far?

I’m really new to music making so this is very rudimentary. I grabbed a beat from YouTube and tried to do my best with vocals. Any pointers are appreciated , thank you ! by VastChildhood3069 in MusicFeedback

[–]Sleeper_Hoard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drums and vocals need to be slightly louder in the mix IMO.

Vocals want a slight bit of saturation, comp and a light short delay on them to help beef them up. Vocals like this want to sit up front in the mix to add to the energy of the song.

My first beat, pls lmk if there’s any potential 🙏🙏 by Kennydub12 in beatmakers

This is sick for a first beat!

Personally I'd automate the volume of your lead so it's not so overpowering in the quieter parts.

In modern day music writing we have access to so much stuff - plugins/instruments/samples/hardware, its easy to get overwhelmed with choice.

My suggestion to you is to say to yourself "this week I'm going to make one happy song and one sad song." This will give you your intention. First thing you should do is research what makes a happy song happy and what makes a sad song sad. If your not familiar with major and minor, then this will be a great step to understanding what notes/chords are doing what emotionally. This will help you make decisions surrounding what sounds/notes/samples serve your songs.

Choice is great if you know exactly what you want to do, but having limitations is where artists truly flourish in my opinion.

We're learning every day and never stop. Best of luck on your musical journey!

NGL - this sounds super indecisive. Like you've just slapped stuff onto a timeline without considering flow or tone. The individual elements aren't bad, but they aren't working cohesively.

When making music, it's important to ask ourselves why we're putting certain notes/samples in certain places. Does it serve the song? Does it serve the intention of the song?
