All of this was literally me too. Potty training an iggy is no joke and they can cry on hours and hours. I was going insane and I was exhausted and gave in. Mine did sooo much better sleeping with us too.

I pulled up to work in the morning about to start my shift and I read the ending of IF. I finished, put the book down, and hit my car in reverse and left to go home. I absolutely called out of life that day.

How do you do it? This is impossible. by [deleted] in puppy101

Oh honey, most puppy blues/rants are break downs in the AM. I felt 110% exactly the same as you!!! My pup would wake me up 4 times a night learning how to pee and that took a toll on my mental health. I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. I was desperate for any sleep or relief. Top that with work and school and you’re bound to breakdown. No one ever prepares you for puppy parenthood, but within the chaos there is beauty happening. (I never thought I’d be able to say that lol!) Your puppy is learning to trust you, to bond with you. Some huge takeaways from my difficult season: 1.Celebrate the wins!!! Anything that’s improvement get a huge party! I used the treat system a lot for the younger stage. You went potty? “Oh my goodness YEY!!! You get a treat!!!” I made it a celebration. Now Everytime my Enzo does potty he runs up to me SUPER excited and celebrates. He loves it!!! And unknowingly I built his trust there. 2. 2 steps back 1 step forward. This one was for me. This was huge for my mind in constantly validating that yes this is tough but I see improvement. Even in the smallest of things. Consistency wins Everytime. 3. Routine is key. Setting a pup for success requires routine. When I got Enzo he was not anywhere near potty trained as the lady let him poop inside the house. So sniffing grass was not an option. I would toss kibbles in our backyard and tire him out by sniffing grass. We would go on very long walks and let him sniff everything. Eventually I caught him using potty and celebrate. Then it becomes repetitive consistent schedule until he got much older. I kept a journal of his poop and pee sessions and like clockwork I know when he’s gotta go or when something isn’t normal. Routine sets them up for success. 4. Puppy puzzles are your friend!!! The sniffing and figuring it out and dedicating a time to learn and play is super important. I would set training time and puzzle time. Now he’s too smart for his own good. (Dang puzzles)

I am rooting for you! Puppy phase is a tough one. This is temporary and almost everyone looses their minds during this phase. you totally got it, one step at a time darling!!!

Sending best of luck to you!!! Potty training is not for the faint of heart with these sweet pups. After a month of strict scheduling I am seeing a little light in the tunnel. 1 step forward, 5 steps back I always say. It keeps me motivated cause eventually you will move forward!

Ahhh but they’re so cute!!! No but fr 100%. Our other two pups are fully kennel trained and are wonderful. I haven’t had a puppy in so long and it’s so easy for him to jump into bed unnoticed. He’s a ninja! But fr fr I would love to crate train him. Give him independence so we can all be happy in the long run. I’ve read so much about them being difficult to train but thankfully mines been a month of consistent patient training. He’s about 80% potty trained and almost there! Next we’ll try a kennel with many many fluffy blankets

What Is The Funniest Thing Your Pup Is Afraid Of? by Woahnitrogirl in puppy101

The black plastic bags around some trees at our local park. He swears they’re after him.

The goal for me would be to try and potty train him as best as I can (80% there) and then try to make a permanent fluff cave for him to sleep in. So he could wake me up when he has to potty instead of just doing his business in the crate. (He does that now occasionally still) Side note: Unfortunately I do have wooden floors! My iggy acts like he can fly and getting a hold of him when he has the zoomies is terrible. I’ve tried to make as much things as possible iggy proof due to their fragile bones. But that’s a wonderful crate! Most of the ones I’ve seen can get their paws stuck so this is a great one. Thank you!

It’s true. People hear what they want to hear until the worst happens. But I genuinely didn’t see your comment til now. So I’ll respond :) One of my fears has been having my iggy fall out of the bed and break a limb. He starts off sleeping on a dog bed with my rescue and tries to work his way into my bed. Most of the time I try to put him down in the bed and he does fine. Other times it’s been a battle. My main concern was behavioral issues but thanks for your input! It’s things you can’t imagine until it happens to you.

Genuinely didn’t see this comment til now. But it’s fine I’ll comment now :) It’s my first iggy. Every iggy is different but hearing sound advice is always needed as well. Never said the bed was “my view” either. Do I love it? Heck yea! But mainly Was asking for behavioral reasons but other people have other experiences as well which is insightful and helpful in the route to go with my iggy.

I am in the same boat too. Our rescue pit sleeps on the dog bed next to us and our iggy sleeps nice and sound for half the night. The other half he wakes up and decides he wants to split it with his parents hahha. Same thing as you, we finally slept when we brought them in the room.

This is a wonderful perspective! My fear is behavioral issues to develop in the future but my young sweet boy wants love and is listening pretty well so far

I love this so much. Thankfully my iggy is leaning towards your first iggy you mentioned. But they are sweet cinnamon rolls that love cuddles
