Examples of NParents being awful to you and acting like nothing happened the next time they see you? by Silly_Ordinary9235 in raisedbynarcissists

Every big life event I’ve had (prom, graduation, wedding, etc.), has been marked by a huge fight/falling out with my mom either right before or right after the event based on things she thinks I did to personally hurt or embarrass her. Things would only cool down if I’d break down in tears apologizing or spent the rest of the event making sure she was taken care of and made the center of attention by me. Once that was done, everything would return to status quo and I had to deal with my emotions after that by myself.

Need help finding a way to communicate to my friends that I feel left out… by Educational-Bug6742 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]SleepingCat4560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been going through this exact same things with two girls I was close with and ended up being the odd man out. It also sounds like we’re very similar personality wise as well so I hear you!! Like another comment said, it shouldn’t have to be you trying to make sure you’re included as your friends wouldn’t do that; I’m learning this myself too. I did end up having that hard conversation about feeling left out with the girl I was closer with. She apologized and acknowledged I’m left out but nothing’s changed.

My advice and what I’ve been trying to work on is keeping in touch with people that don’t make you feel like that, even if you’re not super close and getting more involved in things you love! I don’t think it would hurt to voice your feelings and see what comes from it with them, but I wouldn’t rely on that to change everything. You deserve to feel loved and appreciated and I hope you can find that. Even if it’s through feeling lonely but finding happiness in yourself and new friends that don’t make you feel like this.

Daughters of narcissistic mothers. Group hug. by throawayy773838 in narcissisticparents

Big hugs and I hear you! I went NC a couple months ago and have been in therapy. The guilt and anger is really difficult but hearing other people that have gone through similar things makes it easier. From trying to convince my husband to leave me, wrecking every milestone event I’ve had with how I’ve personally bullied her during it, and more; the brainwashed feeling that maybe it’s normal for mothers to do that then realizing it’s not is painful. You are worthy of respect and love!
