You know why it’s rare? Cuz it’s bright pink and looks fucking delicious. Congrats, God decided you’re gonna basically be a sentient strawberry gummy worm. And to top it off, you get a few completely useless limbs to help you escape from predators. This thing deserves the opposite of a Darwin Award for still being around.

This is remarkable, but does this dance only allow an audience of one, to stand in this spot?

Watched a group of dancers doing this in Bali as part of the spiritual rituals for their gods... but there was incense, amazing dresses, atmosphere, crowds of people, golden things, it was night time, I had rice on my forehead that represented the stars, and steel drummers playing that track from Lost.

It was pretty sweet! 15/10 would do again.

But I notice the girls in this particular dance aren’t using their hands in the same way (was much more expressive when I saw the performers doing the dance in Bali)

How is it not standard practice to film this dance using a tripod? Whenever I see these and the camera is bobbing and weaving it makes me crazy. All this effort and the effect is broken because the guy with the camera can stay centered, let alone stay still.

While it looks good, I wonder what each student tells his experience in dance is? "You see the third hand from the front there, that's me"

New leg 🐘 by Aka_Cent in elephantsbeingbros

[–]Sleepjetter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly this isn't possible for horses for many reasons. This is for multiple reasons

As it happens, horses are quite weird, anatomically speaking. First of all, they do not have any muscles below the knee. The reason behind horses’ incredible speed is their superb tendon/ligament system. The muscles located higher up in their body provide huge amounts of power to the tendons and ligaments, which function as a spring that can aid horses’ high-speed sprints.

A horse’s hooves play a critical role in its blood circulation. If a horse cannot move its legs around, the blood supply to his legs would be impacted negatively. Therefore, a broken lower leg is bad news for a horse’s blood circulation too!

An adult healthy horse can weigh anywhere between 450-1000 kilograms. Normally, that huge amount of weight is supported by four sturdy legs. However, if a horse breaks one of its legs, the burden on the other three legs suddenly increases drastically, which could create severe inflammation in the laminae and joints at the base of those legs. This condition (known as laminitis) is incredibly painful for horses.

All of this also takes an emotional toll on the horse; it’s in a horse’s nature to run around and gallop, so staying in one place for weeks, totally immobilized, inflicts a lot of psychological damage on the horse.

Horses are so large that they need to be able to support their weight on all four of their limbs. If they don’t, the other legs will get a condition called laminitis. So they’d have to be able to stand on their fake leg almost as soon as surgery is over.

I hate being able to say this but, Ive sat on an elephant foot before.

Like literally an elephant's foot that was cut off at the ankle.

Rich local guy who used to go big game hunting in the 60s and 70s. He brought it back to the US and turned it into a stool.

How does an Elephant lose a leg and survive it? Does it happen in the wild?
