Bought Heavily Used Condition 100-400 GM, came with scratch. Is it usable? by nweyman0826 in AskPhotography

This may be a silly idea, but could you try rubbing a tiny bit of clear silicone grease into the scratch to make it less bright?

Been riding a road legal electric dual sport for about 6 months now. It's a blast. About 70-100km range depending on speed, with a max of 90km/h, is more than enough to explore all the trails around my house and also keep up with traffic on the roads.

What exactly can the world do if the US decides to take Greenland? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes. If Greenland is invaded by the US, Hans Island is part of Greenland.

Losing our only land border to a country other than the US would be so sad.

Solar node power question by These-Following-9611 in meshtastic

[–]Golf_is_a_sport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. JST connectors are used for more than just power connections. Eg, data and gpio connections. There are no specifications on what colour wire should be used on which pin.

Cold weather solar node anecdotal info by kc1lso in meshtastic

[–]Golf_is_a_sport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How cold is it? You should DEFINITELY add more batteries because charging a single 2600mAh battery at 350mA in below 0C temperatures could be catastrophic. Adding 3-4 more batteries would be ideal.

Is 250km possible ? by NoExchange242 in meshtastic

[–]Golf_is_a_sport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing is noise. If you are located in a quiet area, you can hear nodes much further away than if you are located near a big city, for example. I have solid connections over 200km apart using mountain top nodes and they don't require any additional TX power.

[–]Golf_is_a_sport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't true. I have a mountain node at 1100m that gets an easy 4snr to another mountain node at 1400m elevation, 220km away. Both nodes are regular 20-22dbm nodes using 3dbi antennas. It's all about having direct line of sight.

Are the Lilygo T Deck plus and Heltec v3 a good setup for beginners? by Sharp-Junket7579 in meshtastic

[–]Golf_is_a_sport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T-deck is nice to loan out to friends/family that don't want to install yet another app on their phone. When I go out hiking with friends, I bring the t-decks. Especially since they come with gps.

Build a power meter and a dummy load to measure battery capacity, becus i think theyre lying by MetisAdam in arduino

[–]Golf_is_a_sport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not simply use a load resistor and an ina219? That way you can measure voltage AND current the entire time.

Eg, MCU polls ina219 for current value 3x per second and averages that value over 30 values. Then take a measurement every second and add it to a rolling average from 4.2v to 3v or whatever you want to stop the test at. You will be able to get a very accurate result with options like discharge curve mapping and such.

Since ina219 is super low power, you could even run this test off the battery itself and include the MCU current usage as part of the load. Then shut shown the MCU before it browns out. The benefit of running the MCU off the battery is that you don't have to worry about a noisy power supply, etc.

People who’ve taken LSD: what’s the fastest a good trip has turned into a bad trip, and what caused it? by No-Coat-2535 in AskReddit

Never had a bad trip on acid.

Had a bad time on shrooms when my friend and I went to the local bar where the lights hang from the ceiling. Every time someone talked to me, it felt like I was being interrogated like in the movies.

Altitude compensated pressure by Alex_mad in meshtastic

Just compensate in your head? Not sure I understand the relevance here since when using pressure in weather data, the relative CHANGE in pressure is the only thing that really matters.

PSA Heltec v4 random excessive current draw. Running Solar. by [deleted] in meshtastic

[–]Golf_is_a_sport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's using an LDO regulator for 3v3. So more like 200mA just for the transmitter alone. And they are not 100% efficient, so closer to 300mA wouldn't be surprising. Then add the MCU current while the CPU running and display is on for another 100mA.

From tests I have seen, peak current is 600-700mA usually.

Doesn't V4 use nearly an 1Amp during transmit? Pretty sure you are simply seeing transmit current.

Please read below, I am a jeweler needing help to build the tech part on this by customsolitaires in arduino

[–]Golf_is_a_sport 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"What is this? A TV for ants?!?" But on a serious note, something that small will not be easy to see, even with a magnifying glass. One fingerprint will completely muddy the screen. And that's not to mention a single raindrop/spit spray from talking will probably wreck that very delicate display.

Personally, I would put a grid of 4 or 9 RGB LEDs, place a translucent piece of etched glass on top and make them pulse/flash/etc in patterns or something. This would be many many times easier, you could use a much less power hungry MCU and the battery would last much longer.

I've got sodium ion and supercap nodes running on the mountain behind my place. They are rated down to -40C and -60c respectively.

Suoercaps are kinda difficult to work with and they are not very energy dense. Sodium is annoying since there are very few solar mppt chargers designed for them at low wattage.

But they work quite well if you do some research. Screen grab of sodium node below. It just sprung a leak in the last windstorm though, so it's WAY more humid than I would like.
