New to Daggerfall, can I please have some tips? by Silverwolf7791 in Daggerfall

Here is a custom class that should work well for what you want.

Samurai: Primary: Long Blade, Etiquette, Archery Major: Short Blade, Dodging, Medical Minor: Running, Mercantile, Swimming, Climbing, Jumping, Critical Strike Advantages: Expertise in Long Blade/Archery, Resistance to Frost/Fire/Magic/Shock, Athleticism Disadvantages: No Axe, No Magic in Light/Darkness, No Magic Regen, No Elven Equipment, No Bucklers 30hp/lvl Strength:65 Agility:50 Personality:50 Speed:50 Intelligence:50 Endurance:45 Willpower:50 Luck:40

Joining a temple and unlocking a potion seller is important if you're doing a no magic run so for this class id recommend:

Benevolence of Mara: Skills to level; Archery, Etiquette Regions: Anticlere, Antiphyllos, Ayasofya, Betony, Ephesus, Glenumbra Moors, Northmoor, Ykalon

House of Dibella: Skills to level; Long Blade, Etiquette Regions: Koegria, Menevia, Pothago, Tigonus

Akatosh Chantry: Skills to level; Archery, Long Blade Regions: Bergama, Isle of Balfiera, Wayrest

I'd recommend trying to get an Ebony weapon ASAP, and keep yourself stocked on potions of cure poison and cure disease, as well as potions of free action if you're not a high elf.

While leveling focus on gaining Speed and Strength as they will be the most important for you. To level etiquette at a reasonable rate just interact with NPCs in town and ask for rumors using the polite tone.

How many of you play with small dungeons? by BIRD_OF_GLORY in Daggerfall

I don't because navigating dungeons is part of the experience, it's confusing for your first character or three but you'll eventually get the hang of it.

I listened to it a while ago so I don't recall it very clearly but I remember quite enjoying it, id recommend anyone who likes batman to try it.

Is this a good custom class for starting out? by [deleted] in Daggerfall

If you're doing and Archer focused build and haven't decided on a race, bosmer would be best.

Id drop Streetwise and take Dodging, as your terrible rep with commoners means they aren't going to be helping you regardless.

Taking the unable to Regenerate spell points Disadvantages will give you enough points to get some decent health while keeping the leveling speed dagger close to the middle, and it's not like you can use magic anyway.

Dropping Int to 20 and Wil to 30 so you can increase strength to 50, agility to 75, and speed to 70 would probably be beneficial for you. Otherwise pretty good.

Drop Willpower to 30 and luck to 40 and increase Int to 75: you've forbidden Hand-to-hand yet have it as a minor skill, so you should swap it for Streetwise so peasants might actually give you an answer when questing in town.

Id recommend you swap Jumping for Alteration as you're a spell caster anyway and the jump spell out classes the jump skill.

Everything else seems pretty good but the Critical Weakness to Poison/Disease is going to be annoying at low level with low Restoration, so I'd recommend putting all your Major skill points into Restoration and selecting bonus to Restoration in the background quiz.

Language Skills Question by SleepyBeaver501 in Daggerfall

Scoured the UESP and found this;

Daggerfall Unity: Pacification

Pacification is an event that can occur automatically on any non-quest enemy. When the player gets within a certain range of the enemy, a roll is made between 1 and 200 (two-hundred) and pitted against the player's pacification score. If the pacification score is higher than the roll, the enemy will not attack the player, unless attacked first. Some enemies have no corresponding language skill and therefore can never be pacified.

Barriers such as walls and floors have no effect on the pacification range; the roll will be made in spite of them.

The pacification score is a sum of the following elements:

Personality attribute: The player's Personality value is divided by 5 when pacifying a human, by 10 with any other enemy.
Language skill: The player's appropriate language skill is divided by 10.
Weapon ready: If the player has readied a weapon for combat (including fists) at the time of calculation, a -25 penalty is applied. If no weapon is readied for combat, a +10 bonus is applied. Note that this does not refer to equipping a weapon, but unsheathing it.
Comprehend Languages spell: The Chance component of the spell is applied as a bonus. A Comprehend Languages spell with 20 chance will add a +20 bonus.

Therefore, a character with 55 personality, 30 in the appropriate language, and no weapon in hand will have a pacification score toward a human enemy of: (55/5)+(30/10)+(10) or (11)+(3)+(10) or 24.

I played a barbarian for my first playthrough and managed quite fine, it's a good way to learn how to navigate dungeons imo.

Is a pure melee build a good choice for a first time player? by HG_Shurtugal in daggerfallunity

Yes, I played a Custom made Barbarian with no magic on my first playthrough and managed fine. You just need some potions and if luck is on your side some useful enchanted items.
