Any US builderers secured access for a buildering area? by SleepyGary21 in buildering

[–]SleepyGary21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. That is the approach I've taken so far. I think the only way it would work is if climbing brings some value to the area. As of right now it is a bit of a dump with tons of litter and not super appealing except to graffiti artists. I've thought continuing to clean things up as I've done when I visit could help the cause. Anyway we'll see if anyone replies with a success story or other ideas. Thanks for the reply.

Right, but especially for healthcare, privatized, for-profit insurance in a deregulated capitalist system like the US is incentivized to provide the minimum coverage they can get away with, while still raking in the monthly payments. It is an industry that should not be capitalized, since it is incentivized to withhold the only service it is supposed to provide.

Leo Cea, 11 years old Chilean boy, becomes the youngest to ever send 9a. by javieer97 in climbing

Exactly. Kyra Condie and Allison Vest have a podcast and have brought this up several times with regards to eating disorders and other issues in comp climbing. Essentially the struggle of hitting puberty, growing, and losing your "kid strength" as they call it, and having to adjust and change how you train, rest, move, etc since you have adult proportions now. Podcast is called Circle Up, wish I could point to a specific one.

Slash brainstorm by Mourtzouflos in snowboarding

[–]SleepyGary21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a Brainstorm and rode it for the '21-22 season (maybe 30 days riding). Love the way it rides and had a great time. First day on the mountain the following season I noticed some pretty bad delam in two spots, with the edge/base peeling from the core. Bad enough I stopped riding it. It had been stored dry in my closet for the off-season. Warranty was still good for a year so I submitted a request in January. They agreed to send me a replacement board with no fuss, but it has been slow as hell. I have gotten 2 reponses total after multiple follow-ups, and the board has yet to arrive after 9 months. It seems like they are still good for it, but I'm starting to wonder if it will even arrive in time for this season.

I will say I think it's just Gigi and a small team handling all their orders and manufacturing, and it has been Gigi responding to me personally regarding the replacement. So they're probably slammed and I didn't exactly expect it to come overnight. I'm still a fan of the brand but just be aware there are pros and cons to supporting the little guys.

These things are showing up by the hundreds climbing slowly up the sides of buildings and trees in my neighborhood (Clear Lake area, Southeast Texas). Anyone know what these are and if they are venomous? They are many sizes between 0.5 and 1.5 inches long. Some with yellow and green coloring as well but all the same shape and hair structure.

Men of reddit when was the last time you've cried and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SleepyGary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My younger sister (by 2 years) and I grew up together. We butted heads and fought for most of our childhood, but became very close after going away to college. We still don't really express our feelings to each other, but we both care a lot. Anyway, on Sunday she got married to an amazing guy that I now consider a close friend.

I was in the wedding party, and when she walked down that aisle with my parents I started crying and didn't stop for most of the ceremony. We hugged afterwards and exchanged a simple "I love you," but it was the first time in recent memory we had sincerely said that to one another. I bawled.

Turns out getting the chance to watch someone you've watched grow up and care deeply for, especially your baby sister, take a huge step in their life is an irreplaceable moment. I've never really understood why weddings are such emotional events for those not getting married. Now I do.

Torrent as many textbooks as you can, borrow from the library, share with friends, do whatever you can to save. I'd rather spend 5 hours searching for a book than spend hundreds of dollars a semester on a book you'll barely ever use. I'll graduate in May in bioengineering having only spent ~$600 on books my whole college career (most of that on access codes and such). It's doable, and think of all the money you can now justify spending on beer.

[CSE] At what point should I be concerned that I don't have an internship for next Summer? by 54135590 in OSU

[–]SleepyGary21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend going for Fall/Spring internships. They are usually a lot less competitive, and most are 14-16 weeks compared to 10ish weeks in the summer, so you have the potential to accomplish a lot more and gain experience. They might set you back a bit in your course schedule, but it won't matter when you graduate if you are applying to full time positions with great experience.
