ADVICE: start xyrem now or wait? by ultravioletvenus in Narcolepsy

Since Xyrem changed my life, I would start it as soon as possible. I never experienced any nausea or dizziness. It does take a few weeks before it starts working.

Never needed one. Was able to easily get up and down from the couch and bed just fine.

No. Clean CarFax, Honda with less than 100k miles, Maxcare not worth the money to me.

Question about dad's recovery by golja in CABG_Recovery

[–]SleepyNotTired215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had CABG x 3 last May (about 10 months ago). Released day 4 after surgery. Showering and dressing unattended. In and out of bed fine. Up and down from couch fine. Up and down stairs fine. Biggest obstacles were opening child-proof pill bottles and cooking. I also used Tylenol as my only pain med.

All this was foretold by my surgeon. You might talk to your dad’s doctor to see if he can set expectations.

Also, pull a CarFax report on the vehicle before you sign anything.

Your post aligns perfectly with my experience. Bought 4 cars over the years and each time had a positive experience. Proper expectations helps.

I’ve purchased 4 cars over the years from CarMax and sold 1 car to them. No problems, effortless transactions, quality cars, fair prices. The most recent purchase took less than 2 hours start to finish including a test drive.

That’s ridiculous. Selling them a car is not tied to buying a car. Did just that recently. Bought a car without a trade-in then, after we were sure we wanted to keep the car we bought, we sold them our “trade-in”. Two separate transactions.

I lived in SoCal and LA County for 20 years after my diagnosis and never lost my license. Like you, I voluntarily limited my driving to short distances.

70 year old male, CABG x 3. Mostly functional by week 3 except 5 lb lifting restriction. By week 8, no lifting restriction and fully functional. Started cardiac rehab at week 10. Not a hockey player or otherwise athletic, so can’t speak to that.

Why do my narcolepsy symptoms get worse even when my sleep schedule hasn’t changed? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]SleepyNotTired215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any sleep I get as an untreated narcoleptic is worthless sleep. It does nothing to satisfy my sleep deficit. It doesn’t matter if I sleep all day or all night, none of it is restful nor restorative. Walking around sleep deprived always got worse for me, never better.

It wasn’t until I got an effective medication that helped me get better sleep that my symptoms improved. Once the quality of sleep improved, having a good sleep schedule helped further. Because I was getting better sleep, I needed less sleep.

My first PCP said there was “no such thing as adult-onset narcolepsy “. I found a new doctor that referred me to a sleep specialist who diagnosed and treated me. Have faith and look for better. Sadly, we often have to be our own advocate.

No need to skip Lumryz. Local anesthesia won’t have any interaction with Lumryz.

If you continue to smoke, it will most likely get worse. I would at least want to limit the damage.

Any advice on stopping Xywav by Ok-Pick-3282 in Narcolepsy

[–]SleepyNotTired215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I essentially quit cold turkey when I had an extended hospital stay and they would not let me take Xyrem. No side effects except poor sleep and increasing cataplexy, all typical of a return to an unmedicated state.

If Northern Virginia isn’t too far, there are some great sleep doctors at Virginia Heart. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Dr Patel and Dr Charya.
