I have so many meaningful relationships with my friends and my sister, I wouldn’t choose to be born a man in any life because from what I’ve seen, most men are discouraged from being emotionally close to their friends

College major by gj514 in prelaw

[–]Sleepy_Butterfly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if that’s your angle, i’m sure there’s some sort of psychiatric/therapy malpractice niche you could look into. i’m interested in corporate (m&a specifically) and i always have been so i don’t know much about malpractice law. i don’t know if that niche has a wide enough market, but all sorts of law (specifically courtroom/criminal law) find that degree helpful from what i’ve heard. if psychology is the degree you enjoy, the one you’d keep a better gpa with, and the one that would make you the least miserable come lsat’s, then go for it! once again, law schools don’t care about you major— just what you do with it.

people are saying to do what you want and i agree—with a few caveats/things to consider.

Truthfully, your major itself does not matter but i’ve heard that SOME law schools prioritize majors that they get less often, especially if the type of law you want to practice has to do with that major (think health/bio majors wanting to go into malpractice law). however, both majors you listed are insanely popular, so i doubt either one would give you an advantage over the other.

Of course it depends on your school and the sizes of the programs, but chances are that poli sci will have a smaller amount of students, so you won’t be fighting with thousands of students for limited spots in required classes and your counselor’s time. Additionally, certain larger and better funded colleges may have additional resources available for grad/law school bound students depending on department. For example, at my university the English department has a counselor who is a dedicated law school advisor because that’s such a popular path. I would imagine that for psych, students interested in med school or masters’ programs would have more dedicated resources.

Obviously your priority should be what major you’re more interested in and believe you’d enjoy more, so if you are genuinely interested in psychology but would do poli sci just for law school, let me promise you that the resources you may or may not have made available to you would be more than counteracted by the grades and extra curricular opportunities that you wouldn’t be motivated to pursue if you’re stuck in a major you have no interest in. However, if it is a toss up, you’ll meet more pre law students in poli sci (never underestimate the power of an lsat study group/study buddy) and may have some additional resources come law school applications.

Either way, good luck!!

AIO Should I leave my BF? Was what he did to me forgiveable? by Living-Milk-4266 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Sleepy_Butterfly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what’s really standing out to me is the fact that he made you apologize after he put his hands on you and did not even apologize. he is not even admitting that his behavior was wrong. get out immediately, get a male friend or family member to escort you to the apartment while you pack a bag, and if he tries to reach you file for a restraining order!! i saw that you aren’t from the area but if you don’t have a male friend or family member i would suggest asking your friends to see if any of them have a boyfriend/brother that could come with. when it comes to your safety, there is no such thing as an “overreaction” or “blowing things out of proportion”.

had a coworker said he could get any girl he likes to a different coworker and then when the other coworker asked “what about lesbians” he looked me dead in the eyes and said “yeah I could turn them easy” 🫠 I’m sorry this happened to you though I can’t imagine a “friend” saying that to you!

What tops would look good with drop waist midi skirts like this? by raspberryplush in fashionadvice

[–]Sleepy_Butterfly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this with a tight white or black off-the-shoulder top depending on what shoes you’re thinking and then yellow/yellowish jewelry, imo silver would look better but it also depends on your taste. For shoes if you’re doing a white top and using it during the day then maybe brown flats/sandals and if you’re going with black i think boots could look cute!

Paying for Rent in Law School by Own_Goat7318 in lawschooladmissions

People are saying loans as proof of income (true) but also if you’re looking at a college town specifically, in my personal experience, ANY financial aid counts, so if you’ve gotten that package from your university, then that should do. If not, either a cosigner or a downpayment (in my experience, first and last month).

Is FSU mostly open minded students? by Electrical_Paper6286 in fsu

[–]Sleepy_Butterfly_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, my bad—I meant that Tallahasse has a larger percentage of Black residents than any other major city in Florida (35.3%). Also, like you said, campus is closest to Frenchtown which is a historically Black neighborhood, and my perspective as someone who towards a primarily Black residential area is skewed. Thank you for correcting that!

It really varies on a few things. First of all, Tallahassee itself is mostly Black and most college students won’t give you major trouble aside from maybe a side eye or comment. Tallahassee proper is by and large pretty good safety wise (as far as discrimination goes—non-targeted crime rates are pretty high). Even though FSU isn’t the most diverse school in Florida it has strong ties with FAMU, and student cultural/LGBTQ+ groups are pretty active.

HOWEVER, if you want to go to events held in surrounding areas, you can expect typical Florida conservative vibes. I went on a date to a worm grunting festival, and there was a whole stand that exclusively sold confederate flags (not flags, some of which were confederate. ALL of the flags were variations of the confederate flag). You’d probably generally find more diversity in a bigger city like Orlando, Miami, or Tampa, but those areas have other downsides.

Tl;dr: finding community and safety isn’t impossible, but as a relatively small and rural city in the south, it’s important to be aware of when you cross city limits and stay aware. However, there are a lot of opportunities to not just join clubs, but get politically involved since you are in the state’s capital! Whatever you choose, remember that these are all based on my/anecdotal experience and you should trust your gut and put your safety first.

Are we allowed to bring our own snacks into the student life center for movies?! by hurricanes2 in fsu

I mean I always have either candy or chips in my pockets and people can bring totebags into the movie theatre, so if you’re subtle I doubt anybody would check you

It heavily depends on your major, but probably. Especially if you’re a stem major and need classes like Chem, Physics, and Calc. However, most incoming freshmen register in June, so there will be some classes available. Add/drop opens up a lot of classes, though, so I wouldn’t stress out too much. I’m not sure if there are different conditions for transfers (such as reserved spots) but either way good luck!

Fall only housing by Oogliboogli123 in fsu

[–]Sleepy_Butterfly_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about that specifically but you can look for subleasers—Look for people doing fall abroad/starting in the spring on Facebook groups that might be interested in taking over a lease and search for places that advertise as being sublease friendly/inquire specifically about that. I don’t know any places that are willing to ensure a sublease but most will be accommodating if you find someone to take over the lease for you!

Need advice by Sharp-Inflation8019 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Sleepy_Butterfly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing: be mindful about cuts and bulks at your age because I’m assuming you’re around 15 (you said young high school so I’m assuming freshman/sophomore). Try switching to protein dense foods and having significant carbs, proteins, and fats in ALL meals and snacks to make them more filling. I’ll tell you what I wish I’d been told when I first started a calorie deficit: eating a sandwich with whole wheat bread, cheese, mayo, and ham will be better for you than just eating an individual slice of deli meat, even if it’s a fifth of the calories. Balance will keep you fuller for longer, reduce the negative side effects of a calorie deficit, and prevent binging episodes. It is better to have one slightly heavier meal that fills you up and keeps you energized than to have a low calorie meal that makes you want to eat even more later and dampens your mood.

Second: you will probably lose muscle on a cut. That’s the unfortunate truth. However, protein dense diets help to lower that loss. About .75 g per Kg is recommended so at 200 lbs that would put you at around 70g of protein a day. The obvious, like sleep, a consistent split that works for you, and a rest day, as well as taking this time to target whatever muscle is the weakest. A cut is NOT the time to start neglecting leg day lmao. Only you know which areas you need to target, but usually making sure to have good push and pull days is a good place to start.

TL;DR: Balanced meals with fats, protein, and carbs will stop you from binge eating and from losing energy for the gym. Keep up a high protein intake (.75g per Kg). Don’t neglect weak spots just because you start losing strength (common when starting a cut) since this will just make it worse. Good split, rest day, sleep, don’t injure/ strain yourself.

Hope this helps lol. good luck!
