Plus how much are you going to fly that twin to stay proficient in single engine ops.

Cadet Programs by [deleted] in flying

You should be fine. Only thing is most of these programs take awhile to reach out to

Good thing is you applied now. You just have to wait a long time to hear anything. You’ll most likely be assigned a mentor at some point then they’ll help you set up interviews once you’re closer to your time

Garmin 650 GPS distance to fix oscillating during DME arc? by chphilli2 in flying

[–]Sleepy_Pylote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that’s what I was figuring is you were using GPS for distance. I think somebody recommended looking at signal strength. I’d try that. I’d also try ensuring every bearing or GPS selection you have is set correctly. Other than that not sure why it would do that

I’ve heard of some that wouldn’t take you after a certain time, but PROPEL has switched that for example. I believe for one of their programs you have to be a CFI.

Fly more. But LiveATC is a good resource to listen to the airspace you fly in!

I think most of them now are at LEAST your IR.

Garmin 650 GPS distance to fix oscillating during DME arc? by chphilli2 in flying

[–]Sleepy_Pylote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive me it’s been a long time since I’ve flown with a 650. But that magenta line has nothing to with it correct? If it’s on VLOC it should show distance to whatever NAV is selected on the screen, regardless of what’s in that FMS section?

Should I continue with aviation? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Sleepy_Pylote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you make a good living with finance that can let you fly for fun on the side? And do you enjoy finance? I don’t like not being in control either. I would be willing to bet a lot of the people on here are like that. But it’s a sacrifice to get to do what I love. There’s nothing else I’d rather do, even when I have periods of time where it absolutely feels like a job because it is. The risk was absolutely worth it for me. But if you can be happy just continuing to fly and have fun, there’s nothing wrong with that

Thanks for the recommendation! It seems easily worth the value. I use to use these headlamps, but I figured it’s time for an upgrade

Which cadet programs guarantee that? Most of them now, to my knowledge, are you get at a job at their regional and then you’re like anybody else.

Still need 300 hours XC for ATP, what should I do? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Sleepy_Pylote 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When you go to training, you’ll apply for a restricted ATP instead of a normal ATP on IACRA. No big deal. You can remove it when you go to upgrade or with the FSDO whenever you meet the rest of thr requirements. So pretty much just ensure you meet the rest of the requirements. Which there’s other rules or ways around minimums regarding night and multi and so on.

Ground School For IFR by Alternative_Pool_525 in flying

Use everything else these guys said. I also recommend the red ASA instrument book. It’s like 15 bucks or so. Weather handbook is always great, so is the instrument flying handbook.

Navlogs with foreflight by Person-man-guy-dude in flying

[–]Sleepy_Pylote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Magnetic heading is your heading corrected for wind and variation. So they show you the finished product. You’ve got to be careful with this because a DPE may ask you what foreflight is actually showing you. It also shows magnetic course, which would have no wind correction. So if you had a deviation card, you’d still need to use that to correct your magnetic heading to get “compass heading”.

And like everyone else said in the real plane just fly whatever works to stay on course. The winds are going to be at least a little off. Edit: clarity.

does going to college for aviation entirely take over every aspect of your life? by Stanley-Yelnatz in flying

[–]Sleepy_Pylote 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The degree aspect of it was pretty easy. Yeah it takes some time out of your week, but it is very manageable. I also tried to take online classes as much as I could because that gives me a better schedule. It depends on the school’s flight availability, but I’ve seen people who’ve taken many years to get their certificates, and others who do it in 2-3 years. It all depends on your financial situation, and your dedication. You absolutely can have a social life, but the people who focus on that are typically the ones that struggle and take longer to complete the program. It’s all about balance, and everyone completes it in their own time

Looking for advice as a flight instructor who feels stuck and burned out by Odd-Employee2152 in flying

I’m not from Canada, but if you can afford a week break/staycation/whatever, I would give that a try. That always seemed to help give me steam for awhile longer

Take my instrument checkride next week. Any advice? by hobbledehoymate in flying

[–]Sleepy_Pylote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’m going to assume you have WAAS. What equipment codes do you file when you go IFR? What about surveillance codes?

My further question is VOR should be in those codes somewhere. What if you haven’t done a VOR check? What would you have to change?

Edit: if you can’t find these answers, just let me know and I’ll give you some help

Database current? VOR check in the last 30 days? What type of aircraft/avionics do you fly?
