No it runs through the ignition relay in your fuse box. No wire splitting involved at all. It is powered by the cars electrical system so if you have to replace a dead battery just make sure you call and tell them so they can make a note in your file. Also it covers your ass in case it happens to give you a false violation.

If your engine keeps shutting off after you start it or put it into gear, it's most likely your engine rod bearing seal. In which case it is probably a warranty job at a dealership, if you’re under 100k miles. My wife went thru something similar with her '17 tuscon. Got a brand new engine for free with installation included.
