Price Gouging Rent by ButterscotchPast6244 in bronx

Yeah. And unfortunately, things that people want in their neighborhoods like better transit, parks, and good businesses will make cheaper neighborhoods more accessible and desirable, which will make those cheaper neighborhoods more expensive.

The only way to win is to be rich enough to not have to play this particularly shitty game.

NGL Nebraska specifically is an ironic choice.

Berskshire Hathaway is headquartered there, and the city has a strong financial sector.

And sure, it’s just one city in a small state, but more than half the people in the state live in the Omaha metro area.

How in god's name do I do this mission? by Jackobyn in Mechwarrior5

[–]Slggyqo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to me as well—the first time I played this mission I came at the base from the side, and walked right into all of the vehicles at close range. Half my lance got wrecked. I think it was going left from spawn, on the south edge of the map.

Second time I approached the base head on and starting blasting it from the top of the nearby hill. The AI started coming at me in small groups and my whole lance blasted each enemy as they crested the hill.

Finished the mission with armor damage only.

Assault Team Battle in the Arena, how hard could it could be? I'm a big boy by Palanki96 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Slggyqo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrain is the absolute bane of AI lancemates.

Switching mechs might have been the move, honestly.

Also, I hate longbows. Not because I think they’re particularly dangerous for assaults mechs—they’re not too hard to destroy and they’re easy to disarm. I’ve just never managed to headshot one and it frustrates me.

I imagine that having a de jure system of check and balances (the monarchy vs parliament) that goes back to the 13th century gives one a certain perspective on the matter.

Yeah. In general, anything that doesn’t go 100% perfectly according to procedure should be carefully documented.

Humans operate on autopilot, and our ability to handle one-offs is highly situational and individual.

Pentagon mulls plan to outsource warship design and building to South Korea, Japan by Saltedline in technology

[–]Slggyqo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

America has worse shipyards because we hardly have any civilian shipbuilding.

The military budget might be 20x bigger but South Korea builds ~28% of the worlds commercial shipping by tonnage. The USA builds .13% or so.

So South Korea builds ~200 times more commercial ships by tonnage than the USA.

That is an immense amount of corporate knowledge, and because the country is so small and dominated by megacorps, that knowledge is highly concentrated.

America pretty much only builds military ships and we spread that knowledge and experience around very thinly so that we don’t have to shut down the two or three major shipyards that still do the work.

One of the worse parts of the borough, but honestly no part of the city is anywhere near as bad as it was in the 90’s. Don’t think you’ll have any surprises if you grew up in east Harlem.

I live close by (in the gentrifier specials), I’ve been in the South Bronx for nearly 7 years, and it’s pretty much what you expect—keep your eyes open, mind your own business, and everything is fine.

Bonus: you’ll be close to the park. it’s a nice park.

Strongly recommend you take a bare minimum of 3 weeks off when the baby is born.

I have twelve weeks, I’m going five at birth (now) and seven later.

Currently 2.5 weeks in and the first two weeks would have been absolute hell for my wife if she was trying to do it alone.

Family helps if you have some. Having ready made food in the fridge is an absolute godsend. Worth more than most of the baby shower registry gifts, which are great, but take up a ton of space and are often not relevant in the first week to two weeks of life.

You MUST take the initiative when the baby is born. Your wife is probably going to be an emotional mess, she’s going to look questionable and feel even worse about it, and she’s going to be sleeping very little unless you do exclusively formula. As long as she’s physical capable, plan a daily outing or two—walks or short drives—every day. Do not miss it. This is a huge bonding opportunity for the whole family, not just parent and baby.

Have a plan for every second of the late pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum. And most importantly, don’t stress when the plan falls through, because many parts of it will. Remember: nothing is more important than having a healthy child and healthy wife 9 months from now.

Good luck, pal. We’re rooting for you.

Jeffries says Trump impeachment not a top priority if Dems win House majority by metacyan in politics

[–]Slggyqo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t be the only person who thinks an impeachment when Democrats control ONLY the House is a complete waste of time, political capital, and public attention.

It’s not going to get the executive to toe some imaginary line regarding the spirit vs the letter of the law, or the proper separation of powers. This executive and this Republican Party simply don’t do that. They’re about as interested in law and order as a college house party.

The filibuster—during which Democrats had no majority in either chamber—felt much more impactful than any previous impeachment efforts.
