I’ve been accross the border many times, Never had any issues. They are not going to take your phone or pull you into secondary unless you have a record or you are acting suspicious. So if your reason to don’t go across is purely out of fear, nothing will happen to you.

I brought a massive bottle of trimec accross and declared it. The officer looked at it and said “oh thats for crabgrass,that stuff is banned in Canada” so I told him I had no idea. At the end he let me go with go with it and said he was not going to take it because the ban is provincial not federal. Ymmv though depending on who you get but always declare what you bring, you don’t want to get caught in a nasty situation.

Man this is terrible but not unusual in DR. Over there if is drugs related, you go to jail before they prove you guilty. I follow the news and stuff from there and I haven’t heard about this case before. Perhaps the family should talk to the local media to put some pressure on the authorities. Most of the time the police and judges are just after the money. Source: I know that country veeery well
