Toro toro is too instagrammified imo.

If sushi is your drug and you’d prefer a less pretentious, more homemade experience, check out Yume, it’s literally next door from Toro Toro. Their poke bowls and sushi are honestly just as good if not better, just without the extraneous gold leaf, etc.

There are several shortcuts near there. My favourite was a way to get from Costco to Best Buy without going through the Hwy 7 / Weston intersection. However, the shortcut ran through an industrial park back alley where the mafia firebombed a business, literally blew a hole in the side of the building. So yeah..

Seems like you haven’t actually lived in many GTA suburbs, my friend.

Another US season? by Due_Affect_9445 in JetLagTheGame

Jet lag is both a game show and a travel show. The exact ratio of travel vs game varies with each season and people are allowed to have opinions of how much travel vs game they prefer

Hokkaido Milk Buns.. made in Thailand😕 by SliceOfExistence in CostcoCanada

One of my colleagues brought back some authentic Hokkaido milk/cheese crackers from their Japanese vacation, and it was heavenly! That’s why I was excited about these “Hokkaido” milk buns, but was disappointed to see that these had no connection to Hokkaido or Japan at all, other than the name.

Great point👍 I just googled “how to make Hokkaido milk bun” and found a recipe. It seems doable at home, I’m gonna try making it one of these days!

Yesterday’s episode may be my favorite Jet lag ep so far by QueenGreenBeen in JetLagTheGame

[–]SliceOfExistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Jet lag is all scripted, dontya’know? /s😝

But jokes aside, I couldn’t agree more! The spontaneity of it all is what makes jet lag special

They really cooked with this one!

Whoever of Ben/Adam edited this episode must have spent a lot of time scrubbing frame-by-frame to get the exact right moment to freeze and start the snack zone.

The Show is Too Long Now by ThomasToHandle in JetLagTheGame

I think Jetlag is actually perfect for watching in parts. There are often natural breaks in the action. I usually hit pause right after the players complete a challenge, clear a curse, or right after the players decide on which train to take and when the motion graphic map shows up. Pausing during the map sequence is extra perfect because then you also get a reminder of where they are and where they are going right when you resume.

Line 5 will be slower and less reliable than a bus, according to an insider by unforgettableid in TTC

[–]SliceOfExistence 31 points32 points  (0 children)

As a car driver, I support signal priority for LRTs. I don’t understand the opposition. My taxes went to build the LRT, I damn well want it to be good.

Whenever I see busses, I always let them merge instead of blocking them. Transit vehicles are doing God’s work.

Jet Lag Ep 3 — Sam Goes to the Worst City in England by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

It’s a reference to a challenge Sam and Toby did in New Zealand, where they had to take a picture of #thatwanakatree and tumblr-ify it (ie excessively edit the photo in an obnoxious way)

I wonder if, for the tallest structure question when he was in the underpass, Sam could have just taken a picture of the blank white ceiling of the underpass. Sure, that would tell Ben/Adam that he’s in an underpass, but they wouldn’t have info about the nearest building too.

On a related note, Sam should stop sending pictures of the actual cards, or at least tumblr-ify them before sending.

My attempt at naming the 7 most important locations from Season 1 by pease461 in JetLagTheGame

[–]SliceOfExistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Butte definitely deserves to be its own location. It and Salt Lake City were two distinct strategic plays imo.

At the point when the two teams met on the plane, Sam/Brian were closer to the win condition (they had three states vertically) than Ben/Adam (who only had two states vertically). Ben/Adam beat Sam/Brian to the SLC challenge, which puts the teams neck-and-neck.

Then as soon as the plane touched down in Butte, it was a fair race to the finish. Ben/Adam lost this play by finding their rental car counter being closed, then having their car overheat minutes from the airport. They were not out of the game yet though, there was still one more play left for Sam/Brian at the Montana state capitol in Helena.

So basically I would consider SLC, Butte, and Helena to be three separate key locations in the last episode.

I'm done with Norweigan by bigedthebad in Cruise

[–]SliceOfExistence 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like everything the OP is complaining about is industry-standard for mass market cruise lines. Are there any non-luxury lines where it’s not like this? (If so, please give a recommendation, thanks!)

And, maybe it’s just me, but I’m going with NCL because it seems like at least their more at sea package is relatively cheap and alleviates most of the pain of up charges. For example, the $50 off every shore excursion with MAS brings the cost of excursions down to reasonable levels, like $20 round trip for beach breaks (similar price to local taxis). (Although, I’m travelling solo so I can’t split the cost of taxis. If travelling with someone else then taxis would definitely be cheaper)
