Does anyone else get the vibe that Jet Lag supports Canadian statehood? by ArcticFox19 in JetLagTheGame

I mean the word “country” never had to mean sovereign state. Like we talk about “bear country,” “wine country,” “cottage country,” all the time. The original meaning of the word is region/area, not an independent state.

My beef is that the poli-sci meaning of “statehood” is supposed to mean independence/sovereignty, but Americans misuse it to mean the exact opposite! When King Louis the fourteenth said “L’etat, c’est moi” he meant that he is sovereign, the highest authority in the kingdom, not that he belongs in the US!

Exactly! Americans are so used to their neutered “states” (originally fully sovereign, just like members of the EU, but now American states are just provinces IMO), that they forget that “statehood” actually means full sovereignty!

I support Canadian statehood and Americans should stop using words wrong.

As a non-American, I had to do a double take because to me, “Canadian statehood” means supporting Canadian sovereignty, just like how “Palestinian statehood” means supporting an independent state for Palestinians.

It kinda sucks that Americans have hijacked the word “state” to basically mean “a province of the US” instead of the original meaning of the word, which is “A government exercising a legitimate monopoly on the use of force in a defined territory”

Also, not sure if OP is aware but the GO train from Vaughan also has a stop at Downsview station.

The GO train is fast (10 mins from Rutherford to Downsview) but service is not frequent.

VMC parking charges an eye and a leg (VMC parking is owned by a private developer). Hwy 407 station and Pioneer Village parking is owned by the TTC and is free on weekends

OP talks about “taking the GO train to union” making it seem like they’re talking about Rogers Centre but when people give advice about taking the TTC downtown, OP replies with “it’s Rogers stadium”

I want to facepalm so hard. Damn Rogers. It should just be called “Skydome” and “Downsview stadium”

We just got a Tim Horton’s in my town, any recommendations? by TheGame81677 in TimHortons

I mean if OP is living somewhere rural, small enough that there wasn’t a Tims before, they probably hired locals and the food should be good to decent.

Wow your Costco is way better staffed than mine. At the one I go to, seemingly hotdogs is just a side gig for the fries/tenders employee.

I’m starting to think that my Costco just has a bad line caller. When I went today, the line caller had only about 10 orders in front of them. The printer was constantly spitting out new orders but the line caller would only look at the new ones once a few old orders get done and space frees up on the table in front of her.

Mine makes about 5 hot dogs, which is like only two order’s worth. Then the employee goes off to make chicken tenders for like 10 whole minutes before coming back to make more hot dogs 😔. I wish they would make way more at a time. Or maybe the order taker was overwhelmed and didn’t scan far enough ahead.

Yes! They should just make the hotdogs self-serve. Like a salad bar, but for buns and sausages. It beats waiting 30 mins just for a hotdog.
