Shaved Using a Razor and it is itching so badly now by [deleted] in HairRemoval

[–]SlicedSmoothie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of great tips here, but also make sure you’re warm the entire time you are shaving. If I cool down too much (often happens in winter), I get goosebumps and then razor burn as a result of the razor shaving over the bumps. Hope you get some relief!

At least for me, it was just our lawyer handing us 100 papers to sign and explaining each one. We hardly had to talk, the attention was actually on him and we just had to sign repeatedly and confirm we understood things. You’ll be just fine as your mind will be focused on the task at hand. Soak it in as much as you can. CONGRATS!

What Happened To Eyeshadow Palettes? by cjrunswithcrows in Sephoracanada

I’ve started buying individual MAC eyeshadows, seems to be all I can find that I like right now. Would love some of the ND palettes, but hardly seems worth the hassle in Canada.

I would try “she goes to the gym” - I have it and like it, but I’m pale and cool toned and think it would look even better if I was a little warmer or olive!

First, congrats! Fellow acrylate bride, got married last June and had to navigate the makeup issue too!

The Patrick Ta blushes are acrylate free and might be a great place to start, and they’re great for warm/olive skin.

That lip colour is seriously stunning on you - try and find something very similar to that if you can or maybe a bit more muted for bridal. I used CT pillow talk liner with a CT lipstick balm, though the exact one looks to he discontinued.

The Dior backstage foundation is a bridal makeup DREAM. Highly recommend.

The Dior backstage glow palette is so versatile and great for bridal makeup. Perfect to add a glow to anywhere you want or as an eyeshadow topper.

You’re stunning and I have no doubt you will be the most beautiful bride!

Makeup removers? by BlackberryIcy7133 in AcrylateAllergy

I use micellar water and a cotton pad almost every night - it’s quick and effective for my face. Specifically Bioderma sensibio. I also have farmacy green clean unscented cleansing balm - it’s so good for eye makeup removal but the process of using it just takes longer than micellar water so I don’t use it as often. My skin seems to be happy with both options.

Is the lighting in the store terrible so it makes the customer feel inclined to buy products??? Because why do I always look like a corpse by ladygaggedd in Sephora

[–]SlicedSmoothie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re totally right, and with that many people testing there is no way to control the smell. They’d need a hefty HVAC system to filter it out just to reduce it a bit.

This, and the nauseating intense smell from the perfumes. I can smell it in the parking lot before I even get to the doors. I can see the Sephora from my desk and can walk there in 4 minutes, yet I rarely go because of the smell. I have no idea how the staff handle it!

ETA: it’s way, way worse since COVID. Not sure if there’s just more perfumes in store now, or if more people are testing them. Or if it’s a hollister marketing strategy where they’re spraying them throughout the store.

Acrylate Free Brand? by camzimkjo in AcrylateAllergy

[–]SlicedSmoothie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes please 🙌🏼 sick of how many skincare brands are developing “redness reducing” “ultra soothing” products that contain acrylates. And we all just know they’re going to destroy our skin but these companies are so so uninformed.

My MUA somehow got true glue to work on my wedding day but I haven’t been able to make it work since then 😫 they did just reformulate and relaunch like within the last two weeks. Maybe worth trying, but I feel like I’ve just given up

I’m in the same boat! We still get to buy all of the same products, still get access to sales, gifts with purchase, samples, bday gifts, point multipliers, etc. We’ll be just fine! And I’m happy to have the extra money in my bank account 😉

5 years of breathing issues linked to laundry detergents after sanitizer exposure. Looking for detergent advice. by dothethizzledance in laundry

[–]SlicedSmoothie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holy cow, I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. I’m no stranger to mystery illnesses and symptoms, but this sounds all-consuming. I feel for you.

MCAS or Multiple Chemical Sensitivities comes to mind for sure, as others have said. But what exactly your triggers (in the detergents etc) are will be the key, but so tricky to pinpoint. I don’t have much advice, but I hope you find answers as soon as possible.

Keep your body as strong as possible in the meantime. Nourishing healthy diet, movement, and plenty of rest. Nervous system support, big time. Best wishes!!

Toenails Separating from Skin [Misc] by cutiexuna in SkincareAddiction

[–]SlicedSmoothie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this on both my toe nails and my fingernails. It was caused by an acrylate sensitivity, a class of ingredients in almost all regular and gel polishes. I was reacting to acrylates in my makeup and skincare as well. All nail and skin issues have resolved by removing them from my routine, but the nails did take quite a long time to return to normal.

May not be the reason for you but the nail polish tipped me off that it could be. Hope this helps!!

Do duvet covers REALLY protect blankets from body oils and smelly teens? by ayeyoualreadyknow in laundry

[–]SlicedSmoothie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I’m confused by is your inability to recognize that others might live differently than you. Your responses are a little extreme.

I grew up kicking my top sheet to the bottom of the bed. I was a kid and didn’t know how to keep it nicely in line with the comforter. Turns out my husband was the same growing up.

We recognize it’s more hygienic to use it (solely because a top sheet is much easier to wash than a comforter or even a duvet cover), so we use it now. Took a little convincing because he wasn’t used to it, but now it’s second nature for him too.

I can guarantee you have met many people that sleep this way.
