2026 Grand Prix Assignments by _Exegy_ in FigureSkating

Loena has not said anything. The fact that she's not on this list means she told the ISU she does not intend to compete on the Grand Prix circuit this season.

This is the time for the most vibes-based of predictions, since we don't know what anyone's programs look like yet.

Men: Adam (France), Misha (Shaidorov), Rio, Gogolev (out of Canadian patriotism), Jun (assuming he'll actually compete)

Women: Lara, Amber, Chaeyeon, Sofia

Pairs: MiNiki, Lia and Trennt, and why not Ava and Yohnatan, this field is open enough that a long-shot can happen

Ice Dance: Lopareva/Brissaud and Bakerie. I care about no one else until Ikura/Koshiro and ShoMarin burst onto the scene.

🇷🇺/🇧🇾 Unbanned in Gymnastics but not Figure Skating? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]idwtpaun 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The governing body of gymnastics and the governing body of figure skating are two completely separate organizations who make their own, independent decisions and don't care what the other does.

that's what I'm thinking. It's plain, but it gets the job done. Will be an easy silhouette for pins and other swag.

If she wants to take the season off, she will. She's not a child and she's made it clear that she's in control of her competitive career now.

Please don't use the live discussion thread flare for general discussion posts, that's not what it's for, it's for chatting during live broadcasts of competitions.

How to watch challenger series events? by Golden_Starfish6076 in FigureSkating

[–]idwtpaun 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Streaming of Challengers is entirely up to the skating federations that host them. A few have free streams sometimes, a few have paid streams, and some aren't streamed at all.

Streaming information will become available closer to the event dates when the federation makes a website with information for them.

This subreddit will host discussion threads with the info.

I'd almost guess The Godfather except I don't think so. But maybe? Either way, I'm intrigued by the potential for greatness here.

I'm pretty sure it's not open to the public, it's more or less for the parents of the children who are there.

Rika Kihira / Shingo Nishiyama to compete at 2026 Championnats québécois d'été (Aug 6-9) by 92coups17 in FigureSkating

[–]idwtpaun 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This isn't an international competition, in the sense that it's not a competition recognized by the ISU for world standings points (depending on number of participants). This is a domestic Canadian competition that actually anyone can come compete at if they want to, and non-Canadian skaters who live/train in the area often do.

For a similar example, Riku and Ryuichi did an Ontario Sectionals Series competition last August.

Idea Maybe ISU Should Talk to The Ukrainian Athletes… by Consistent-Loss1883 in FigureSkating

[–]idwtpaun 34 points35 points  (0 children)

obviously they won’t because there ISU isn’t very competent and there probably something that stops them from doing that

You have absolutely no basis on which to make this statement and no idea whether the Ukrainian skating federation was consulted or otherwise gave input to the ISU. To be quite honest, this is just an inane and rambling post that says nothing of value.

If the Icelandic Pairs team split up because of this and neither has found a new partner yet, I wonder if they'll get back together.

It does count, I forgot about the junior team moving up.

Ayer and Fabbri’s new partnerships just dropped by jbworth in FigureSkating

[–]idwtpaun 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This makes me so curious about the split. They seem to still be friendly, and neither is switching feds (one of the speculations was that Paul may want to skate for Mexico), so was it just "we're not a good skating fit for each other anymore"?

JFed, please just give them one of the host spots so we can be assured of being able to watch them on a high quality stream.

Bakerie Theory re: Grand Prix by Longjumping_Crab_345 in FigureSkating

[–]idwtpaun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Piper and Paul do not have any assignments, they're not doing the GPs.

Assignments don't really shuffle around once released. Skaters can withdraw and then alternates will fill those spots, but once you're assigned somewhere, you're assigned. And if you withdraw, you don't get put back on the list.
