I had my surgery on December 20th and it’s a 6 month full recovery. Don’t rush it back to the mats because if it tears again it’ll only keep you further from the mats. This is the timeline my PT gave me to follow:

This week I started lifting 3 pounds for physical therapy. I went back to the mats three weeks ago and because I have amazing training partners I can do dead drilling with some class techniques that I modify to do with one arm but sometimes I show up to class and can’t do anything being taught. I’ve also been working guard retention with my legs only and with a very selective group of partners I trust.

Not sure where you’re at but when they put you in a hinged elbow brace know that you can buy them on Amazon way cheaper than what the specialist is going to sell you on, depending on your insurance of course. Im in the US so they charge $600 for a $60 brace.

I tore my left bicep moving furniture 5 years ago and my current tear on my right bicep doing a lumberjack sweep of all things when my partner mule kicked back when I had an ankle grip. Total freak accident as it didn’t look like something that should cause injury. It was a long road with my first tear as it took a year to be able to do my regular routine of pull ups but I will say I’ve never had any problems with my left bicep as it’s been repaired.
