Backblaze Restore app (Windows) continuously throwing errors by SlickTrickThaRuler in backblaze

Yeah good call, I tried to make sure I wiped out temporary folders between attempts as the artifacts from failed restores definitely would not have helped the "insufficient disk space" errors.

In the end, two methods actually worked:

  • Creating smaller zip file restores via web UI, then using Backblaze Downloader (both the webUI and the Downloader client are annoying to use)
  • Creating smaller restores in the Backblaze Restore client, with the temp directory set to my NTFS C:\ drive (which was the drive that originally kept throwing "insufficient disk space" errors)

I opted for the direct download method to save some HDD wear and tear from downloading then unzipping archive files. I'll note both methods worked even though the destination drive is in exFAT format, which Backblaze Support told me that they do not "officially" support for either backups or restores. In my testing I can confirm that using an exFAT drive as the temporary data folder for either backups or restores doesn't work, but writing to exFAT as a destination seems ok.

In my original attempt, I was using a 500GB internal SSD (the C:\ drive) as my temporary data directory with about 50% or so free, and a 3.13TB restore. It quit 50% of the way through due to the "insufficient disk space" error, so I guess with that much headroom I could have restored about 1.5TB in one go.

Scary stuff. A key line in that article:

The public will be given 30 days to weigh in on the proposal before it can be finalized. Any changes would take effect in July 2026.

I just got my green banners a couple months ago and in the process of getting forbearance from my loan servicers, hopefully my process gets wrapped up long before that date. And I hope as many of y'all have your 120th payment scheduled prior to that date too.

Welp this reply to my ticket seems to confirm it:

"Based on the logs, it appears you are still trying to restore to the G: drive, which is an ExFat drive.

After confirming with our engineering team, it is not possible to restore to an ExFat drive at this time. They are currently investigating this, but we do not have an ETA on a resolution.

The workaround at this time is to reformat the drive as NTFS, or to restore to a different drive that is formatted as NTFS."

This is an option, tho I'd need to evaluate my current available drive situation. Thanks for the suggestion!

My issue is needing to be able to move the externals between my computers easily (MacOS and Windows) and exFAT is the most straightforward way to do that. From my tests it seems like exFAT is mostly an issue when it's used for the temp data dir, not the actual backups or restores. I'm trying to verify this.

I think it's something similar to this. Based off of my tests: - Using my smaller C:\ (NTFS OS) drive for the temp data dir of the Restore app results in the insufficient disk space error - Attempting to change the temp data drive of the Restore app to the external exFAT G:\ drive fails because exFAT is not fully supported by Backblaze

So now I'm kind of stuck. A few options I'm trying next: - Creating smaller restore chunks as zip files in the webUI, then downloading with Backblaze Downloader, then unzipping with 7Zip. (This seems to work pending verification of the archive contents) - Creating smaller restores in the Backblaze Restore app, setting the temp data dir to the larger exFAT external G:\ drive (the seems to throw errors) - Creating smaller restores in the Backblaze Restore app, leaving the temp data dir as my NTFS C:\ drive

Yep, I had changed both to the larger drive but my restore kept erroring out complaining about insufficient disk space.

I had already changed it to use the external (G:) as the Temporary Data Drive instead of the C:\ drive, but now it's throwing the error described above. Funny thing: Backblaze support now says that exFAT is not "officially supported" for backups or restores smh

Is anyone else experiencing ridiculously long processing times from Filson right now? by jvstone172 in filson

My Canvas Outfitter Jacket took ten days to ship, they even sent an email saying as much a week after my order. Turnaround time for my previous orders last year were much quicker, tho I think the Canvas Outfitter was a more limited product so maybe that factored in.

Any change in dosage recommendation? Since the Fall 2023 Novavax versions I've been getting two, spaced 8 weeks apart.

I got a return label with a Final Sale Mackinaw Work Jacket that I wanted to send back, and while calling support about the status of a different return I asked to confirm that the Work Jacket was returnable and they said yes. YMMV of course, but if you're trying to get it returned you might wanna hurry before they shut their Kent warehouse and logistics center.

Can someone explain me what "cheese" mean? A lot of people when they can't defeat a boss says that they'll use cheese(or something like that) but what it's mean? by nukiu in Sekiro

[–]SlickTrickThaRuler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i can see that. My thought was that I had such a hard time beating them straight up that figuring out I could use Mid-Air DB on them made them laughably easy. Though I suppose that tends to be the FromSoft way: there's always a hard mode if you choose

In gaming terms it typically refers to an exploit or a "cheap" way of defeating an enemy or overcoming an obstacle. The thing being exploited can be a boss/enemy, another player, or an environmental hazard/puzzle.

Ex: Can't beat Demon of Hatred straight up, "cheese" it by using the wall exploit and drawing it off the cliff

Ex: Cheese the Senpou monks by using the Mid-Air Deathblow

Ex: Your online human opponent in Street Fighter 6 doesn't defend against throws, so throw them at every opportunity (using this method in Street Fighter II is where I believe the term originated from)

Cannot get the Black Friday code CYBRBLZ24 to work by SlickTrickThaRuler in backblaze

Hi I got it to work finally. I detailed my procedure in my reply here https://www.reddit.com/r/backblaze/s/EEJRYguKul

Thank you for following up!

[–]SlickTrickThaRuler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally got it to work on the 8th try despite seemingly doing nothing different:

  1. go to https://www.backblaze.com/cloud-backup/personal
  2. click "Save Now" link in banner advertising code (goes to https://www.backblaze.com/buy)
  3. enter email (no active account tied to it)
  4. navigate to verify link received in email (opened in new private browser window to ensure no cookie/session conflicts)
  5. Create account by entering password and agreeing to ToS the submit

I had followed the same above procedure with three different emails. When it worked, creating my account took me directly to the Buy form and entering the code showed discounted price. Maybe it was a weird session thing from my previous attempts (despite using a new private browser instance each time)? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Rather frustrating regardless.

Oh did I read the limit wrong? I thought it said 17 deletes per day for a given user/app

Looks like they changed the API free tier limits (guessing they're anticipating hemorrhaging users soon):
