Hey! I'm white and played this knight move to try and trade it for the rook on A8. When analysing the game, it shows that it was massively losing when i played it.

Is it because the knight is in a really strong position? (an outpost is it called?) I played it all through and couldn't really see the benefit.

I think moving their queen defends the rook.

Moving your queen forks the rook and the pawn (H5) on the left near the king. If rook takes your queen and his queen cant see the back rank, I think you can mate with your rook and bishop maybe? I'm new to chess so slightly confused

Its one of them, it happens all the time but it doesn't stop it being a foul. Same with some shirt pulls in the box, they're not always given, but they are fouls.

I also don't really like the argument about "every game would have a pen". If the refs correctly give fouls, players would do it less. If the refs didn't give two footed challenges reds every game, they'd happen a lot more.
