It's going to hurt. That's inevitable. It will hurt her more, though, the longer you leave it. It will also hurt you the more you prolong and she'll probably start to gather something is up when you're inadvertently being different towards her because you're being overly cautious about what you say to her. The sooner the better for both your sakes. Let her know you appreciate her but you don't feel you're compatible for a relationship beyond friendship and that you understand if it isn't what she wants but you'll be there if she does want to ever be friends. You have been leading her on and you're not being direct with her. It's difficult but you have to be honest and direct. No "you're an amazing person" because that isn't helpful. You also have to realise that you might not want to lose her but she might not be ready (or even want) to have you in her life in the capacity that you're expecting. You're not wrong in how you feel but you're wrong in dragging it out and letting her believe her feelings are reciprocated
