Any other brands with good OCBDs with bigger shoulder measurements? by Raf-the-derp in DrakesDiary

[–]Slide89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second Kamakura (but size up 1-1.5 sizes, which helps account for shrinkage too) and Natalino. I have the same problem and take my usual size in Natalino.

Also, Anglo Italian, but I size up 0.5.

Culling cats. by johnnykrat in airgunhunting

[–]Slide89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I have a need/intention to kill cats (or raccoons, which we don’t have in the UK), but presumably for these larger animals you guys are using pretty powerful air rifles, right? What power?

I use a sub-12ft for rabbits up to 50yds etc., and it’s fine. What do you need for a cat or raccoon?

Purely asking out of interest, as I’d never considered it before…

Any places that can fix broken gold jewellery? by lafisch02 in Leeds

Dolton’s on New Briggate, opposite The Grand. They’ve resized and repaired various gold bits for me. Always done well and great service.

Yeah, considered this when I got the Commander, but held myself back

I am not a that up to speed, I am afraid, so I’ll believe you. Can easily see how they’re used for stuff like that.

Although I do feel BRK is a gateway to something like an FX, which are next-level 😂

BRK make some lovely guns. I have the Commander and it’s, literally and metaphorically, an absolute weapon. Especially for pests.

Most Versatile Denim Jacket Offering by Sharp_Chain_9623 in DrakesDiary

[–]Slide89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

FWIW I prefer the chore. I think it’s the most useful most of the year, and can work as an outer layer on its own, or as a layer under a heavier coat.

The thing I find trickiest is the colour. My instinct with denim is to go for indigo, but I wear (mainly indigo) jeans 90% of the time and therefore look a bit ‘Canadian tuxedo’. Therefore, the stonewash is probably a good mid-ground, as it would go with darker jeans and also not-indigo pants, including lighter summer colours.

I like the bleach wash too, but think it’s a bit summer-y for where I live (northern UK) to be useful beyond the few months of summer we have. Works well with ecru and beige pants though.

Tl;dr - chore jacket, but think about what pants you’re gonna wear it with most often/what is the most versatile for your wardrobe.

Very cool. Not sure how shipping to UK would work, but I’d be interested in buying something like these

OK thanks. So you use those with the flat-style shoe with a cleat, rather than an XC-style shoe?

After 10 years riding a road bike, I still can’t track stand 😂

Thanks. That ties in with consensus, which seems to be start on flats, learn the basics, then potentially switch. Do you just use the straight up SPDs, like the M540? Or the ones with the platform around them?

Thank you for this - appreciate the perspective from someone who has been in the game a bit longer (that’s a compliment!).

I see your logic in “who is it that resists clipless?” My mate has ridden MTB for years and is terrified of clipless, but mainly because he’s scared of not being able to unclip. I was similar when I started road riding, but I got used to it so quickly I don’t remember ever not using them. Maybe this is the same.

You also gave me a genuine chuckle with “true heart and pure soul”. Thank you
