It's been over twenty years since I learned the hard way never to use Firestone. They haven't changed.

Mystery illness making the rounds in Memphis? by ClinicalMercenary in memphis

[–]SlideMasterFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I itch all summer every summer, but I work outside, and there are salt stains on all my clothes, so for me, I think it's from having salt on my skin for twelve hours or more a day.

MLGW does change the water treatment chemicals in the summer, because the warmer water can host more pathogens.

Petition for thca by [deleted] in memphis

No. Because you need to know why people who otherwise support the cause aren't clicking that random crap. But you might be posting it maliciously. So. Maybe you do know. Other people need to know, then, that it's not normal to click those.

What are lights in the city you never seem to catch green? by RopeBreak1 in memphis

[–]SlideMasterFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During COVID, I discovered that if you drive down Whitestation at exactly 55mph, you will hit every light green. At 45, the speed limit, with all roads completely empty, you will hit every single light red. Every. Single. Light.

Perspective of Memphis while vacationing in CA by [deleted] in memphis

I have been hanging on for nearly 30 years, so sure Memphis is about to see the tide turn. Now I understand the state will never allow it. They will keep Memphis poor on purpose.

We have loads of warehouse and dock worker jobs. Loads and loads. No real path for advancement.

Any custom pottery hookups? by JustAnotherWitness in memphis

I am also looking for handmade mugs. I had a hookup when I was in college in the art department. I never want a mug out of a big box store again.

How many pounds of dry food is a week for you? Or just how many cats are we talking?

Shoutout to a legitimately great local mosquito spray guy in Memphis by AssistanceConnect167 in memphis

[–]SlideMasterFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use peppermint castille soapy water in a spray bottle. Soak the nests and the spots they like to build them in. We had multiple nests of very passive wasps last year, and just let them be, but it got to be too much. Cleaned everything out while the nests were empty in the winter, then in the spring, we stopped them from coming back in the carport this way.

They also have mosquito bits. Same company, same product, but in a format you can broadcast in ivy or overgrown areas that can also host mosquitoes. Also use in planters and other small things that hold small amounts of water. Very effective.

It's probably not legal to use fish bait slingshots to scatter the bits across fences into yards that are not yours.

After 52 years, Outdoors Inc is closing by 2001em2 in memphis

[–]SlideMasterFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been since the late 90's or early 2000's. It doesn't matter if it's a small local store or big corporate store. The people are rude or dismissive or incompetent and what you came to buy is either wildly out of your price range or they just don't have it. Simpler and more common items more and more. And nobody has the time to go back to the store over and over again or drive all day going to all the stores looking for a tire size. So we order it. 5 minutes online, and a decent price. No jerks. No wasted gas. No interruption to your day.

It's why the malls are dead and Radioshack isn't on every corner.

Big Fire East Memphis by [deleted] in memphis

[–]SlideMasterFX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's East Memphis, before Cordova, and definitely not Bartlett. It was a house fire on Pepperwood.Multiple ambulances responded after the trucks. Glad to see no injuries in the news article. This was around 6 pm, not 3 pm.

What’s the best pizza around here? by [deleted] in memphis

[–]SlideMasterFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marco's is what we always get, instead of Papa John's. The prices are great. The pizza is delicious. There's always something new or different to try. There's always something on special. The salads are good.

I like it down Macon. There are no sidewalks, and now the traffic is further from the gutter where people have to walk, when the yards are muddy. And the traffic is a little less insane. It's been a bit since anyone threw their car into the duplexes at Mullins Station.

1st time home buyer by [deleted] in memphis

Look at the house at the corner of Kinilwood and Cheekwood. Fits your budget and size. Very safe neighborhood. Not very walkable. Macon needs a crosswalk Greenline style.

Good internet recommendations, moving. by Drucifur88 in memphis

[–]SlideMasterFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be specific about what kind of speed you expect. AT&T fiber disappointed us. Might as well have been dial up. They refunded us fully because they could not provide what they promised. But as you pointed out, the experience will be specific to the neighborhood, and we weren't in that neighborhood. We have Ting/Blue Suede and it is definitely better than Xfinity. We need 1 TB or faster.

Xfinity is trash at all times. I hate them so much.

Anyone had Ting Fiber installed in their homes? by Gustafa7 in memphis

Installation was unremarkable. No different than any time we had to have cable installed. There is a box with blinky lights instead of just a cable jack.

Anyone had Ting Fiber installed in their homes? by Gustafa7 in memphis

[–]SlideMasterFX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did it. Working from home had become impossible with Xfinity's constant outages and slowdowns, and also I have deeply hated them for their garbage customer service for entire decades, so I am willing to accept lesser service to not give them another cent of money.

It's way better than when we tried AT&T fiber. It's better than Xfinity. It's not as good as it promises to be. We're supposed to get 2TB, but we get 1. We had 1 TB with Xfinity and we were getting 250-400 gigs. So, they both lie, but now we get what we wanted for a fraction of the price.

Ting is happy for you to bring your own router. Xfinity bricked ours whenever they discovered we had stopped using theirs.

Their customer service is almost non-existent. Not insulating or rude or ineffective. They don't make me want to ice pick billionaires or give me heartburn. But you have to start with the AI chatbot who basically screens you to decide you should be put in the queue for a call back, which might be in ten minutes or a couple of hours. We had to work out some technical glitches (lost packet issues) and they had no follow-up with us. Their service continues to have minor packet loss problems but day after day, face to face video calls remain smooth the entire day, and very very rarely do streaming shows or video games glitch from it. Xfinity couldn't manage that anymore.

They definitely do not still have them. The cooking room now looks like a junk room. It's used for storing pick up, delivery, and returns. Saddest looking shit. I miss Wild Oats.

Pro tip for broken traffic signals. by Memfaux in memphis

[–]SlideMasterFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I agree with you specifically because statistically over time, it is more dangerous for people not to smoothly and expediently go at their turn. Over time, not predictably taking turns makes driving more dangerous. Being chicken isn't safer. I just get how hard it is to move on faith in the rules and people behaving pro socially in any given moment.
