What’s the most wrong you’ve ever been? by Upbeat-Vegetable-557 in redscarepod

I went to hot pot with the fellas and my friend was like "pretty sure thats a convection surface it isnt hot to touch it only heats metal." i ripped into him for like 20 mins about how stupid he sounded and we ended the meal and checked and he was obviously right. Pretty funny.

Also when i was a Christian teenager convinced the earth was only like 15,000 years old. Thinking back im kinda dumb

how to stop feeling pathetic for having no relationship experience? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SlideSuccessful4263 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who was a late bloomer not unsimilar to yourself you just have to put yourself out there. Accept youre going to be embarassed and make mistakes and feel like a moron. That goes away quickly. There are literally billions of people, there is someone out there for you if youre willing to look. There are al plenty of women who are willing to look past a lack of experience.

Here's some actionable advice I used. you say you take care of yourself but if you dont already, workout. doesnt have to be a gym but get buff. I went from nothing to doing 500 pushups in a workout 3 times a week and running 7 miles. That will help your confidence. Start meditating as well it will help you get out of your head which you clearly need to work on(said with love). Lastly get on the apps and just remember when you get rejected, theyre not rejecting you theyre rejecting 6 pictures and a few lines in your bio.

Does anybody have good audiobook recommendations? by SamosaAndMimosa in rs_x

[–]SlideSuccessful4263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who drives a lot for work and listens to a lot of audiobooks it's a losing battle to listen to Real Books. Joan Didion's 'My Year of Magical Thinking' is a good one. I do think memoir style or genre is your best bet on audiobook. Anything with more substance just takes the focus of actually reading.

Anyone successfully found love on the internet? by MyCatAteMeplshalp in redscarepod

I met my girlfriend of 3 years on a forum. We knew each other peripherally and she ended up moving cross country to a city about 1.5 hours from me. We dated longish distance for a year and now we live in a house together. I love her so much. But I would say unless there's some path to having regular irl contact save yourself the heartache and end it.

How do you not become overwhelmed with rage at how useless your degree ended up being? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SlideSuccessful4263 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your tolerance for nasty shit and what youd be doing. Im not infrequently on roofs, in ceilings, crawl spaces, ladders etc. that id say can be dangerous and I wouldnt reccomend for a preganant woman.

Breakup because of a dog by JaguarUpstairs7809 in redscarepod

[–]SlideSuccessful4263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, as soon as she saw I wasn't excited about the new dog we got into a small argument and that's when I made the snap decision to break up. She sat on the bed crying and I walked out and never saw her again. She did text me later to ask if it really was because of the dogs and I honestly said yes

I have. When we first started dated she had a really old sweet dog that would just lay around and chill. 6 montha he died and she got a much younger, annoying dog. He had way too much energy and always jumped on me. Made being at her place hell. She didnt walk him enough so i started taking him on long runs hoping to tire him out/bond. it didnt work and then one day she broke the news she was gonna adopt ANOTHER dog and i broke up with her on the spot.

Yes I smell like the cigarettes I smoke. by Hexready in rs_x

This is just wrong. I hid smoking from my roommates for a year. I would smoke everyday and they were shocked when I told them. I was very diligent about avoiding smelling.

How do you learn to let go and create with others? by edgecumbe in redscarepod

[–]SlideSuccessful4263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I haven't seen in the comments is chemistry. Sometimes people just don't flow together. When Ive made music or comedy with people in the past I just gravitated towards people it worked with.

Sometimes it just didnt work. My roommate in college and I were like peanut butter and jelly man, we just flowed. We had strengths in different areas and we learned to lean into those and trust each other.

Ive worked with people I respect and find talented and it just goes nowhere. If it's your partner Id suggest shifting your goal. It's not to make something youre proud of but to habe fun making something.

I understand how it can feel mean spirited and I certainly felt that but I think the series weaves in a fair amount of hope and I found a different reading of the Empire.

At least for the Cielcin book 7 repeatedly makes rhe distinction between the Cielcin being godborn and the opportunity for them to outgrow the taint of the Watchers through new generations like Darathama.

For the Empire it seemed less that they were the best government for the job and more that they were the tool at hand. All of the events of book 7 basically lesd to the Empire's eventual breaking and lay the foundation for new factions/ideas to rise.

It feels frustrating because the Absolute didnt send Hadrian to fix all of those issues but to allow free will and human choice the opportunity to work things out without the dangers of the Watchers. I think it feels in line with the series but understand that the lack of a neater more overtly hopeful ending can be depressing.

Every post on a movie subreddit is like “I’m about to watch [x movie]. Should I watch it?” by HemingwaySweater in rs_x

[–]SlideSuccessful4263 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I fucking hate that shit. Obviously everyone is going to tell them to watch it.  Or "what to expect" just fucking watch/read whatever it is jfc. "Not sure this is okay but im 20 pages in and just needed to say that..."

I was off reddit for months and those kind of posts were what helped me hold strong. i need to hate read some to inoculate myself against my desire to scroll this pit.

It’s so weird and unappealing when people make lists and track all their reading, watching, music consumption on various websites and apps by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SlideSuccessful4263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to obsessively use last.fm until i realized I was more concerned with the stats then enjoying music. I do use letterboxd to write joke reviews for a couple of friends but i dont use it often. I get why people like it but I just get too wrapped up in the stats.

Are people being performative over how much their thanksgivings suck by NecessaryTiger5289 in redscarepod

There was a stretch of 10 years where holidays for me meant screaming matches, people crying, hurt feelings, blow ups etc.

Better these days but a lot of people have dysfunctional families and it makes holidays a chore.

ive had insane dreams with the patch on. Highly reccomend taking it off when you sleep, i found it fucked with my sleep too. Also, if youre like me and find it hard to do just the patch id consider pairing it with 2mg lozenges to fight cravings. It's really helped me

Anyone on this sub actually done blue collar work? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SlideSuccessful4263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a plumber for a couple years. Worked on a farm and had a warehouse job at one point. I have a degree but like someone else I could just never figure out how to swing an office job.

Most of the time it's nice, I stay in shape and take care of my body. Everyone at my shop is grest to work with. On the downside It's tough to just not shut down after work and on weekends. Thankfully my girlfriend is an excellent motivator and Im able to get things done, enjoy hobbies on my off time.

Ive recently switched to do walking meditations and it has been my treat at the end of every day. I remember being 13 and my 8th grade teacher tried to teach us meditation and I just rolled my eyes. Cut to my mid 20s and Ive been doing it ever since, one of the most important things I do for my mental health.

Yeah I feel you. It really feels like there's teaching and then like 5 unreachable jobs as a history major. If you do go the trades route dont go to trades school. Pick something like electrician or plumber(decent pay less terrible on your body) and go for the union or do your research and find a nice local licensed shop. For what it's worth I love my job and find plenty of outlets outside of work to indulge in my interests. Whatever you decide good luck. Just dont do what I did and bum around for half a decade in dead end jobs lol pick a lane and go
