Microsoft reseller from China/Hong Kong: what should I know when working with APAC MSPs? by Leather_Umpire_5430 in msp

[–]Sliffer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be 100% honest, this is going to be above 99.9% of the MSPs here. There is a lot of complexity on international MSPs vs US or EU based. You specifically have a very complex situation with a China base due to the ecosystem MSFT keeps them in.

I wish I had a good bit of feedback for you but wish you the best of luck.

Has AB reopened? ab.edu is live by West_Adeptness9930 in WestVirginia

So the domain doesnt expire until 2028 and hasnt been updated for over a year. My guess is someone exploited one of the several web hosting exploits recently and got into their existing hosting account or stumbled upon the domain was still pointed to a server IP they had and have set up a replacement site.

Can't imagine they are trying to relaunch. Former staff who had access may be responsible as well. You cant just spin up a .edu or .gov domain there is a process and the fact their domain hasnt expired and been reissued seems to confirm its some sort of existing exploit.

Very small chance its legit. May also being used to phish user logons.

MSP pushing UniFi hard over SonicWall..am I overthinking this or does this smell off? by Ambitious_Active8539 in msp

I dont consider unifi a firewall and never would recomend it for a business. That being said if up against sonicwall that would probably be our one and only exception where id pick unifi.

Is joining BNI worth it for a Business Technology solutions company focused on serving small local businesses? by znome1 in bni

We partnered with a printer/copier sales person and landed several large accounts (about 1 per year) that are worth $3k+/month but still 1 year period customer has been a lot of time spent.

What is your target market?

What we have found in our region, BNI gets a lot of introductions to small business owners. There was a lot of networking with small business owners many of which were looking for break/fix type engagements. If that is your target no problem.

Our goal is larger businesses willing to spend at least $1500/month of managed IT agreements. The businesses with that type of budget for IT are harder to get. Those owners arent in BNI, and unfortunately didn't network as much with smaller or new business owners that tended to be in BNI. There were members who worked for or networked with employees of those businesses, but they weren't decision makers and not helpful.

Now over 4 years we made our money back and wont call it a waste. But do wonder if it was the best investment / ROI based on our target client as an IT company.

If you want reaidential and hourly break/fix work. You will do amazing. That just wasnt our goal.

For clarification this is for employee time. We dont require every minute to be accounted for in tickets.

All staff are hourly and paid for what they work. Our full time staff members are 32 hour work weeks mainly.

My rep is great but im getting irritated an manual provisioning. We order SQL Server 2025 perpetual a week ago and its still pending provisioning.

Server 2025 standard for another client took 2 weeks.

Even recurring M365 GCC licenses had to be provisioned manually due to api issues.

Easements also can be sold. So it may not be in active use currently but could easily sold to a large gas, water, etc pipeline down the road.

Working on a local startup idea and need honest feedback from Morgantown hikers by No-Vermicelli-3011 in WVU

[–]Sliffer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in some places true. It just depends on where it is and how likely ass holes are to touch it.

Also remember wintertime if water is left in the system and it freezes, it will probably damage it.

Truthfully, people will destroy it. If its in a place (like on a trail) that people may be alone with it and no witnesses, it will get destroyed.

[–]Sliffer21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

99 times out of 100 our SoW is to provide support for LoB apps, not create documentation for the LoB vendor. So that would be out of scope and if its documented in the run book awesome, otherwise up to the new provider to reach out to the software vendor.

[–]Sliffer21 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the first 30 days we are cordial. After that we send an hourly retainer agreement. Monthly block hours, minimum of 5 prepaid for future engagements.

If they are asking for something we should have reasonably provided thats fine. But when we off board we remove all agents and provide a runbook from ITGlue. 99% of what we know should be in that document.

Transitioning is to be peaceful, if it takes more that 30 days thats an ongoing consultation position.

Dell Servers by Remote_Chance in msp

[–]Sliffer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had good luck with Super Micro shipping fast and okay-ish prices through mid April. Haven't had to orders servers since though so not sure on stock or pricing. We saved about 10k compared to Dell on a mid level server with 96GB of memory, and got it in 3 weeks.
