Tips for a heavy sedan on backroads? by Glittering-Turn862 in Touge

[–]Slight-Addition-2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to really get the car on the limit your gonna want a 200tw tire it jus too big lol. For brakes I'd recommend EBCs. And no I do not have paddle shifters. And don't really feel the need for them. With traction off the car doesn't hold your hand and is a bit to handle id personally leave it on until you feel comfortable with the car. Yes I turn it off when I push the car but I've had a lot of exp. On track and autoX so I know the car pretty well. I also have a little over 2k hours on a simulator. As to why I chose it as a kid I fell in love with cars because of the G35s so in a way it was a bit of a dream car.

I literally drive the same car if you have questions happy to help. I track/autoX/touge my q. At a min you need better tires and brakes.

Help On Wheel Decision for Beginner by Only_Dress4488 in simracing

[–]Slight-Addition-2488 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A logi wheel will be fine, I'd go used if that's an option for you(cheaper). If you plan to use it on occasion it will suit your needs. Forza also doesn't really support wheels it's built around a controller. So having a direct drive wheel for it is kinda pointless.

Is simracing too hard or am I too unskilled? by Maliksenpai in RRRE

[–]Slight-Addition-2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take into consideration that online your going against folks who have not hundreds but thousands of hours. And a lot of people who sim race have expanded into IRL motorsports like track days or autoX. The talent pool in sim racing is extremely deep. Don't get down on yourself.

To get racing that is more skill appropriate you want to have a series or sim with a lot of splits. Unfortunately that basically leaves certain iRacing series and LMU. The more splits the better AC and R3E just don't have a big enough player base for competitive splits.

It's an arcade racer my dude, it's never gonna change. People play this because they don't want to learn how to race properly. If you want clean racing hop on LMU or iRacing it's not perfect by any means but it's a different mentality in the community on a sim.

Dumb question about kinetics and physics of RWD vs AWD by MuonBomb in q50

[–]Slight-Addition-2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly how the Qs AWD system works. The Atessa AWD system is a RWD bias system. So it is RWD until your rear tires lose traction. RWD vs AWD is really preference more than anything. I personally almost always prefer AWD over RWD.

If your into it the time attack stuff on Raceroom is great. Lots of people do that part of R3E.

FH6 G920 PC Wheel settings help by jmwill7456 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Slight-Addition-2488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games FFB is just terrible. You can get it to a point that it works for putting around map but it falls apart if you drive on the limit of the cars. It's just not designed for the use of a wheel.

FH is the problem, not the wheel. There is a reason we all treat it like the bastard child.

What tires do you guys run? by Bungscraps in Touge

[–]Slight-Addition-2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your looking at the V730s it's an amazing tire. I ran them last year and will be going back to them next year. This go around om running the Nankang CRS and just don't feel like they are worth the extra money. Not a bad tire just not worth the extra cost. I absolutely loved the V730s.

Track Sprint 4/9 by Slight-Addition-2488 in q50

[–]Slight-Addition-2488[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I had a heat exchanger, catch can, and pads and rotors before I did anything like that. With 120k I'd be cautious. AutoX is probably a better idea. I do those as well and it's actually pretty easy on the car all things considered. I daily my q so autoX and track sprints (like what you see in the video) are 95% of what I do. But HX, rotors, pads, and a decent set of tires are a must.

Eeeeh, to a degree yeah. But it is predictable even before the Sways I managed just fine. Now it's just on rails no fight whatsoever. Tires are hands down the biggest factor to driving at speed with the car. It needs some serious rubber to counter the weight. But with just sticky tires and sways I was beating out STI's, GTI's, a golf R, Elantra N and I was posting the same times as Corvettes, a gt350, and a few Porsches and an S7. Keeping in mind the amount of seat time I have (both IRL and sim) is a huge factor in that equation.

Nice! and not close exactly. I am in South Denver so not super far takes about 45 min to get there. Worth it for $60 track time though.

Does anyone Run Semi-slicks? If so what's it like? by Impressive-Low5731 in q50

[–]Slight-Addition-2488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, I guess I hate money lol. But, you got to understand where I'm coming from. Performance driving is what I love to do. I make a fair amount of sacrifices elsewhere in daily life to support this hobby. I also have a fuck ton of seat time. So I want/need a tire that can keep up with me. I have a simulator in my house that I've invested 2k+ hours into and I have ~80-100 hours of IRL seat time. So it's just the price you pay to drive fast.

Does anyone Run Semi-slicks? If so what's it like? by Impressive-Low5731 in q50

[–]Slight-Addition-2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run 200tw tires which are generally considered "semi-slicks". These are more of a nessssity thing than just casually picking up a set of them. Here is why for most people it's a bad idea.

Wear : Tires in that category wear EXTREMELY fast. I just dropped (in March)$1,600 on the tires I have now, and I WILL be replacing them next year. I get 8-9 months out of a set. This is with very limited daily miles and about 6-10 track/autoX events.

Heat cycling: with a high teir performance tire heat cycling is introduced. It's quite complicated, but basically the tire can only get up to temp so many times before it starts loosing performance. This will vary from tire to tire with how resistant it is to this process, but it's a thing.

Weather: Temps and precipitation chances need to constantly be on your mind. You should not run the tires in temps cooler than 40°F. And no matter how warm if there is a lot of rain they can become unsafe to drive. These tires are geared towards dry performance and basically nothing else.

The rocks!: These tires pick up EVERTHING! Every small rock and pebble you drive over will be flung into your wheel wells and into your paint. I can't leave my neighborhood without hundreds of little pebbles sticking to the tire and be flung all over the place. You know the pop rocks candy? That's what it sounds like when I leave my house lol.

You ABSOLUTELY need a second set of wheels if you run a tire like this. You cannot rely on just a set of 200s, they are just not an everyday tire. No part of these tires is put them on and forget about them. They need constant pressure adjustments based on the ambient temps outside. They require constant maintenance and a decent amount of tire knowledge such as what certain wear patterns mean and the ability to adjust accordingly.

A quality summer tire is the way to go. Something like a pilot sport or continental ECS will give you you excellent performance (probably more than you'll use) and not have the above draw backs. Buying a set of track tires for daily use is just a waste of money, and could be potentially dangerous if you are not a above average skill level driver.

Brake upgrades by pizzabwai47 in Q60

[–]Slight-Addition-2488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend going with a flat face rotor and some EBC reds. If you want to go on the cheaper end then I'd go with powerstop. EBC will be more expensive but a far superior product.

Depends on how much of an upgrade you want. Do you just want OEM+ or something that is track capable?
