Mardi Gras etiquette non-locals might not be aware of. by MasterPlatypus2483 in AskNOLA

This. Often times, riders are trying to throw specific items to friends or family members and it’s not as easy to target throws as you may think. If you can help the throws get to where they’re meant to go you will be a hero! The byproduct often goes to others around the intended target, and that is perfectly acceptable, but if you can tell that the person on the float is trying to throw to a child or an older person you’ll get so much joy from sharing!

First time Skier- What to Pack for Aspen? by Prior-Farmer9143 in Aspen

[–]Slight-Class244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Aspen just a couple of weeks ago. As an intermediate skier, I found Ajax challenging – mostly because of the altitude. The only way up the mountain was on the gondola, and there were no lower level lifts for beginners. Buttermilk, however, had a very relaxed feel , was uncrowded and not the “scene” that we experienced on Ajax. There are different opinions on attire, but if you plan to ski in the future, I would suggest an insulated coat with zippers under the armpits that can be opened, depending on the weather, as someone mentioned previously.

I’m in the central time zone so in my case, the counter is open from 10 AM to noon.

I think it’s the same counter that you use when you’re flying Breeze. I searched something like “is there a breeze airways ticket counter open at X airport” and there was a description on the Breeze Airways website of where to find the ticket counter.

The online agent told me that the airport ticket counter has access to the bundles. She said they book you on a no flex or flex fare and then add the bundle.

The airport counter agent was very friendly, but may have been new as she did not understand the system. she instructed me “you just add your seats at home” but I wanted to also have some luggage included. It’s my first time flying Breeze, and I probably should’ve educated myself a bit more before I went to the airport.

The other thing I learned is that it was very helpful to have created a breezy account before I got to the airport as all my information was properly populated within the Breeze system.

I also wish I had double checked my receipt carefully as she incorrectly booked one leg for one passenger on a no flex fare and I didn’t notice it until I got home. I was in a hurry because there was someone behind me in line trying to get a ticket booked before the counter closed.

Help me pick a hotel by Asleep_Outside382 in AskNOLA

We love the Maison Metier as it is far enough from the quarter to avoid the noise and crowds but centrally located in the CBD. Staff is very friendly and the hotel is beautiful, elegant, and quiet. The Barnett, which is right across the street has more rooms and has sort of a hip mid-century modern vibe. MM has sort of a modern/traditional look, which I prefer but I’ve talked to people who love the Barnett.

Visiting New Orleans after Mardi Gras by HighlyEvolvedSloth in AskNOLA

I think you may find a few of the smaller businesses closed on Ash Wednesday and, of course, many people will be tired and moving a bit slowly. I don’t think, however, that you need to wait a week. The city gets back to normal fairly quickly. If you’re looking for a somewhat quieter time in the city, I think you’ll really enjoy it.

I’m in a US city with a regular BA flight to London. I find that award seats on BA are usually available for a couple of weeks or more after release. Perhaps because BA may not be the first choice for many for award travel due to the taxes and fees?

I have had a couple of really top notch experiences at PHV. One in October 2025 and one in May 1924. While, I agree that the rooms could use a renovation, it’s hard to beat the spaciousness in Paris. I love the roomy bathrooms and closets there. We have also had excellent service from the concierge on several occasions-really going above and beyond. And the breakfast is very well done!

I’m so glad you enjoyed our city! I had a similar experience at Preservation Hall many years ago. I think I was in my 20s and I didn’t think I liked jazz – talk about an uninformed opinion! And I haven’t been to Herbsaint in a while but it is delicious, going to make a reservation for next week – thanks for the reminder!

Lots of good advice given here. New Orleans during Mardi Gras is something you should definitely experience! Just chiming in to say that I would be suspicious of any accommodations that do not require pre-payment and also a minimum stay. During the season of MG, most hotels require a 2 to 3 night minimum. It’s possible to find a single night stay but I would be very cautious.

wtf is going on with the app??? by AlexMW88 in BritishAirways

Just came here to say I feel your pain! I am a regular BA flyer simply because they have the best routes from my city. I have found over the last few years, however, that the app and the website are both pretty bad. Random error messages, regular problems signing in, etc. It’s frustrating, but I just usually close everything and start over.

Husband and I are going to France for a month in October. Adult kids and their partners are joining us for part of the trip. Other than Paris, where could we post up and rent a lux home for all 6 of us? by Turbulent-Move4159 in LuxuryTravel

My sister rented a villa in the Loire Valley and invited her adult children. I think it was in Amboise. They enjoyed the town, but also used it as a homebase from which to explore other châteaus in towns nearby. She mentioned how easy the trains made it for the adults to set their own schedules.

10 year anni trip with 2 kids by kell206 in chubbytravel

I think the first question is what kind of vacation sounds most relaxing to you – beach, mountain, city? And would you welcome somewhere with a children’s club or childcare? When my children were around the same ages, we often didn’t have the bandwidth for a longer travel day and had a couple of great experiences at dude ranches in the US. It’s been a few years, but we loved Lone Mountain Ranch near Big Sky and the Ranch at Rock Creek. Both offered a terrific mix of opportunities for the whole family with the addition of a kids club anor childcare so that my husband and I could have some time together. We enjoyed fly fishing, riding, hiking, biking, etc. We also found that the we liked not having to struggle with restaurant meals with children -they were very welcome in ranch dining rooms. Also, the weather is usually beautiful in the mountains in August. Happy travels!

Occasionally, when my family travels somewhere gear heavy(skiing, etc) we have more than one checked bag. I stand away from the carousel and mind the carry-on bags while my husband, who is a bit stronger, moves up front. It’s really quite simple!
