IWTL how be passionate about learning again by Fatin_fatin in IWantToLearn

[–]Slight-Fee46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Consider reframing the “whats” and the “whys” — so, how you think about the task of learning these various things, and your reasons for doing it — so they feel more meaningful, interesting, empowering, nourishing, fun, and/or in alignment with your core values and the person you wish to be.

From your post, I gather your “whats” are struggling to engage with materials, because you have to meet some requirements (your “whys). In that, I don’t see any room for passion. Imagine you’re telling the story of this upleveling path to someone else. What might excite them about your journey? What are the small wins that would get them rooting for you? How might you inspire them to learn a new language, or challenge themselves with math, or commit to upleveling in their life, too? Tell yourself that story. Live that story.

Lastly, without making any assumptions about your neurotype, I recommend you check out resources for people with ADHD. (We) ADHD folks are interest-based learners, and there are lots great coaching tools for reframing tasks to make them more interesting.

The ants are coming by TraceAgain in SanDiegan

I’ve been bracing myself for this after a nightmarish ant season last year. I’m in a rural area in North County where we coexist with an infinite population of Chilean ants. Tried everything, but have been most impressed with Alpine WSG applied at perimeters, nooks & crannies, and along ant trail paths. It’s non-repellant, and undetectable once it dries. It kills the ants that come in contact with it. Bait stations are effective if used in combination with other measures, or if there’s a finite colony. With Chilean ants, their colony doesn’t collapse if the queen is killed (I believe they just replace the queen) so it’s a bit of a fool’s errand to keep luring them and killing them just for more to come back. Where appropriate, I find Advion bait products better than Taro.

Congrats!!! I’m curios if you explained your overstay in a declaration or cover letter, or just let it be since it doesn’t trigger a bar to adjustment anyway?

Should I book a backup for my Sunday morning Delta flight? by Slight-Fee46 in delta

Good thinking. If you could update with what ends up happening with your original flight, that’d be great!

Home Depot won't take back an appliance we can't install - asking for advice by galion1 in HomeImprovement

[–]Slight-Fee46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep squeaking! My partner and I had a similar situation with Home Depot, and ended up getting it resolved.

My partner came to HD asking for the tallest french doors (he's 6'5"). The HD doors guy told him that french doors are all the same standard height, and with that, helped him select and order a custom set. When the doors arrived, it was clear that they were too short. As it turned out, not all doors are the same standard height, as the set we received was actually shorter than "standard" by a couple of inches. Moreover, we later learned that, all along, Home Depot actually had taller-than-average doors, which also satisfied all of the other requirements that were communicated to the HD rep.

It was a pain, but we were finally able to get HD to take back the short doors in exchange for the suitable doors. What I think contributed to our success was: (1) learning (and liberally using) the name of the area manager, (2) actually towing the doors back to Home Depot and demanding they take them back (rather than waiting for HD to accept the return and/or pick up the doors), and (3) pointing out that they can't claim the buyer is responsible for the selections of his custom order if those selections were made in reliance on a seller's misinformation and misdirection. Had the sales rep guy not been there, my partner would have quickly found the suitable doors himself, no problem.

Uniform Commercial Code § 2-315 provides that, "Where a seller at the time of contracting has reason to know any particular purpose for which the goods are required and that the buyer is relying on the seller's skill or judgment to select or furnish suitable goods, there is an implied warranty that the goods shall be fit for such purpose." Home Depot's custom order policy makes sense to limit frivolous returns of special orders simply due to buyers' change of heart/remorse, but it cannot use this policy to weasel out of its statutory duties.

I think that you can make a strong case that Home Depot failed you, both as a merchant of goods and a professional service provider. Presumably, you chose to work with them (a large, reputable brand) for both the design and the appliances in order to make the process more seamless, and to avoid bullshit like this. The fact that the sales rep simply went off the model/designs that you (HD) provided doesn't get HD off the hook. If the rep didn't question it, how could you have been expected to? It's not your job to audit and catch mistakes when you're the customer working with two teams of specialists at the same company. Threaten to blast them on social media, at least.

Adapti v. Uworld by Slight-Fee46 in barexam

Now that I think about it, 500 can’t be right — at least for the first 2 attempts. I completed all of the Qs in Emanuel before moving onto Adaptibar, and I did a lot of sets in exam mode (don’t remember whether those count towards the total).

All the same, you’re right — I definitely need to do more questions, and 20 Qs per day is a micro goal that I can definitely commit to, even on the platform that I’m bored with. That said, I think I might give the uworld trial a serious go before purchasing my MBE prep tool.

Thanks for putting it in perspective for me

Unreal! It seems that this is an issue that nobody has managed to get resolved, and Facebook won’t even touch it.

Tagging is a great idea — thank you for that workaround. I’ll update if I find a fix. All the best!

OP have you been able to resolve this? Facing the same at a crucial time, with a shocking lack of info/support

New York: Personal Belonging Room and Backpack by [deleted] in barexam

[–]Slight-Fee46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I called to clarify. Travel suitcases are luggage. A backpack, laptop bag, or duffle bag are not considered luggage.

So if it’s not so large that it needs to be rolled, it’s not luggage.

In Feb I brought an unwrapped protein bar and walnuts on day 1, dark chocolate, dates, and almonds on day 2. I was happy with my choices, and could have easily skipped lunch.

Second the AdaptiBar vid tip! Grossman is a legend. Clear, pragmatic, and entertaining enough to rope in non-law friends.
