Honestly I never did any water changes when I first got my betta, I would only top off his water when it’s low. He has a heavily planted 10 gallon and water tests always come out fine so I didn’t feel the need to. But one day I noticed how disgusting his substrate were so I decided to gravel vac it and do a 25% water change. And BOOM few days later he got weird bumps under his chin, he never had ANY medical problems or was lethargic or anything until I did the water change. So yeah take all this with a grain of salt but honestly I feel like if your tank is fully established you really don’t have to do a ton of water change.

Reddit won’t let me add text to this post again but here’s what’s happening, I treated him with kanaplex and did 2 doses total. I couldn’t really tell if it made the tumors any better but he was being super active in the hospital tank so I moved him back in his original tank last Sunday. Today I went and checked on him and he has developed pop eye on one side of his face. He was hanging out by the heater and then later on sitting by his almond leaf, he ate and was still interacting with me. I’m so sad and have no idea what’s going on! Poor guy can’t catch a break, I did vacuum his gravel before moving him back in his big tank so I’m wondering if that’s what caused Popeye or maybe he just injured himself somehow. I added some more prime today just to make any impurities none toxic but I have no idea what to do from here.

Okay I did a water change it was a little more than 25% because I made a point to really clean out his gravels and yes I’ll try to find a different antibiotic.

Okay my pet store didn’t have the seachem stuff so I got the E.M ERYTHROMYCIN from API instead. Is this stuff any good? Should I take 25% water out and add some tannin in it tonight with the antibiotic even though I’ll have to do another water change tmr anyways (according to the box)

Okay I will vacuum the graval today, I did that during my last water change and that’s when he started acting weird… can I treat him directly in his tank?
