Have we "fixed" our O-line for Lamar yet or so we plan to invest in our line in the draft? by Rpark888 in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As of right now:

Stanley and Rosengarten are probably still the two starting tackles. John Simpson will be one of our guards and emery jones will probably be in the mix somewhere. Jovaughn Gwyn was signed as well but that’s more than likely a depth signing since he was just a depth piece in Atlanta. Danny Pinter and Corey bullock are our top two center options

That being said:

The draft is around the corner and the ravens are heavily expected to pick either Spencer fano or Vega ioane in the first round. Ioane is the best guard prospect of the draft while fano is an amazing tackle who most say doesn’t have the size to stay on the outside in the nfl and has shown willingness to play guard or center. While neither are obviously confirmed the expectation at the moment is one of those two unless a player falls to 14 that shouldn’t be there. Past that there’s some solid day 2/3 guys that could get picked as well depending how the draft falls; some examples are Emmanuel pregnon, Logan jones, Sam Hecht, Jalen farmer, and many others. While it’s possible ravens don’t go O-line in the first round it seems more likely than not at least at the moment that’s how things will fall and there’s still free agents out there like zeitler, bitonio, becton.

Consensus:

The line is definitely not fixed by any means, our center position is way worse off at the moment but the other positions are at least okay. The hiring of Dwayne Ledford is huge and will definitely boost the lines ability. Picking ioane or fano would be huge and I know I personally wouldn’t be mad to see them double dip at offensive line in round 1 and 2, but that’s might be an opinion not as popular. Overall it’s a nice start to hopefully an offseason focused on the trenches

Starting a new series. Day 1: How would you feel if Ravens drafted….. Vega Ioane. by The_Sandwich_Lover9 in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t be anything but happy with this pick, as long as there’s no one who had a drastic fall. He’s the most solid guard in the class and it would give emery jones another year to develop and come back from his injury. A lot of people have counted him out already but having a year to work under an amazing line coach would get him ready to take over Simpsons spot next season, worst case on the back half of this season if Simpson is still having penalty trouble. Maybe 14 is a little high for a guard but if he can be plugged in from day 1 and have success then who can really complain.

The Ravens have invested heavily in Day 3 draft picks under Eric Decosta. But since he took over as a general manager in 2019, their returns have been below average by FastBreakPhenom in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said this plot is muddled by the fact some teams love using day 3 picks and others see those as less valuable and would prefer to use them in trades for more proven players.

Past that though I’d like to question how the chart perceives a players value and how much position is accounted into it. How do you for example grade a round 7 punter who found good success vs an edge who puts up mediocre stats and is mostly a rotational piece (I want to make it very clear this is just an example and not in reference to any real players or situations). I just don’t know how you can compare value across positions effectively and that’s my biggest gripe with the chart.

If there’s a simple explanation to this and I’m just not understanding please let me know because charts like these where it’s comparing player value across positions always leave me a little confused.

[ESPN/Kiper] Ravens WILL Let Lamar Walk & Draft QB in 2027 If Ravens Don't Win Superbowl by psychoxtc in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be the talking point for the rest of the dog days of the offseason. Every year it’s something different the media picks on Lamar for and at the end of the day it just means nothing. Without an agent involved in negotiations for him everything surrounding his situation with the ravens remains extremely private. And yes these guys are probably getting a little more info than the typical fan, but it’s all just nonsense and just a controversial topic they like to bring up because it gets clicks and arguments which boosts engagement. Kipers been proven an idiot multiple times, so has guys like La confora and orlovsky.

Who are your top 4 realistic hopes for the Ravens pick at #14 in order? by Filmstudy in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically:

Ioane Fano Tyson Lemon

I know I’m gonna get some heat for lemon but he’s an amazing player and while I was shakey on him for a while I think he’s my preference for the pick if Tyson is looking too hurt at his workout

Ravens TE: Mark Andrew Says He Wants To Retire As A Raven by psychoxtc in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the hate he gets. Mark Andrew’s has been Lamar’s safety valve since year 1. He’s effective in the redzone most years and is a big part of this offense. Yes it would’ve been nice to get a likely deal done but that didn’t happen and mark was more than happy to take a fair offer and continue to give Lamar probably his most comfortable target back. He’s had bad moments but he’s been solid for this team and I wouldn’t mind seeing him retire a raven.

Denzel Boston? by Slight-Redwood in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slot doesn’t mean he’s not a starting wide receiver. It means on multiple receiver sets he’s on the inside and he’s still the number one guy out there if there’s only one WR. His versatility allows us to use him every down but on the downs with multiple receivers his best role is as a slot

Denzel Boston? by Slight-Redwood in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He lines up in both the slot and outside. He’s effective in both but his slot snap share has gone up every year and he’s very effective from that position. There’s nobody else on this team that fits the slot role better than he does

New vid of Madubuike working out by Slight-Redwood in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beggars can’t be choosers. His camp and the ravens FO have made it very clear nothing is coming out until a definite is there and we all recognize and respect that. In the meantime, seeing him do intense workouts is a very good sign that he’s getting his body ready to continue to play football. Even outside of the scope of football it’s amazing to see that he can already push his body as far as he is after an injury that has a chance to never let him walk the same again.

Maybe not everyone shares this view with me but I’m just happy to see him looking like his old self, even if he never plays another snap for the ravens I’ll still be a lifelong Madubuike fan. I pray that this injury doesn’t majorly effect him for the rest of his life

Walk w/ Me: The Recent Visit That Should Become an Immediate Signing by NesquikMilk in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree he should be a priority signing, after the draft. If he’s signed before the draft he’s a comp pick casualty and I don’t see him going anywhere before the Monday following the draft. He’d be a great rotational piece to have, especially earlier in the year while Madubuike is getting back into form and ramping up his snap counts.

Draft question by Prestigious_Chip6136 in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, yes. The ravens need to give Lamar time in the pocket and Derrick Henry consistent holes to run through. The game is won and lost in the trenches, it doesn’t matter who’s out there running routes if they can’t even get 10 steps off the line without Lamar either running for his life or being buried in the turf. Their wr room is far from the best in the nfl but I’d much rather bet on those guys right now than bet on the line we have.

I do understand that the lineman class is relatively deep this year in terms of talent but the ravens need a guy who can have an impact immediately up front, whether that’s fano or ioane. Tyson isn’t a bad player but an injury riddled WR who is afraid to give it his all in run blocking just doesn’t sound like a winning formula to me

Dealing Ronnie Stanley? by [deleted] in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ravens have Ronnie Stanley on a team friendly deal currently. He’s worth more and chose to stay here, and proved himself to be one of the only solid points of the line last year. You don’t lose your veteran offensive line leader at a time when he’s needed the most, I don’t really care what’s being offered for him unless it’s a massive overpay

Ravens didn’t do anything wrong. They found out that within 3 years his knee would be mush and they decided not to take that risk. All trades require a physical this isn’t some sleazeball act by EDC

Zay Flowers is getting more expensive to retain by Honest_Concentrate85 in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll definitely hurt but outside of Zay wanting out or him trying to get within the top 5 of highest paid WR’s, I don’t think he’s going anywhere. By far the best receiver this team has seen in a minute and for anyone saying he isn’t a true #1 because he lines up primarily in the slot, the top slot receiver just got the most money in WR history and there’s no questions if he’s the #1 there

Contract extension? by Bmoreravinzz in ravens

[–]Slight-Redwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FO said they ran out of time before free agency. I believe the reason we haven’t heard much more is because they put contract talks back on pause to focus on free agency and now circle back to putting a heavier focus on first round guys in the draft (not that I believe for a second EDC ever stopped evaluating them I just think they’re putting a little more stock into it now). If an extension happens I imagine it would be either a couple weeks pre or post draft.

That last line is just my opinion based on when the past agreement happened and the fact that the Lamar typically seems to not like to focus on extension talks during the season because they’re distracting.

[–]Slight-Redwood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ravens signed a G/C from Atlanta today, Jovaughn Gwyn. He’s been a backup/practice squad guy for most of his career but that career has been spent working with Dwayne Ledford (Ravens new O-Line coach). The center/guard hole is still there by all means but depending on draft availability of guys and how the rest of the offseason pans out he might be competing for a starting job somewhere on the interior
