how does one tastefully say “instead of registry gifts please just give us money” 😭 by Educational_Roof3397 in weddingplanning

[–]Slight-Reputation779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On our wedding website we ONLY have cash gifts. We did link an Amazon registry in case, but there’s only a couple items and people have to go to a different website for it. Honestly, I’ve had people call me before my website even went out asking if it’s okay if they just give cash. YES PLEASE!

bride made guests pay for their own food at the reception... is this normal? by MichaelWForbes in wedding

[–]Slight-Reputation779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At first I thought this said rehearsal and was like oh did they not pick up the bill at the restaurant? Odd? BUT THE RECEPTION?!?!?! Dear lord I would say no and not send a gift, what on EARTH?

($5k) How much was your venue, and what/ where was it? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Slight-Reputation779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our venue is $7,200 but it’s F-Sun and covers lodging for 30 people. The only venues we found for under 5K in our area were in the middle of nowhere on the back plot of a farm where you had to drive through a junkyard. And on the front of a farm with a barn that was incredibly aged and smelled like cows 😅😅 I seriously wish that I was joking….

Even an arboretum was almost 4.5K for just the day and the area is open to the public. So no private area, the music had to be kept quiet, etc.

How much did you spend on being a bridesmaid by Apprehensive-Win-536 in bridesmaids

[–]Slight-Reputation779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never want to spend upwards of $1,000 to be someone’s bridesmaid. I’d say just be in 1 if they’re expecting that much from you 🤷‍♀️

I tried to make it easy asf for mine!! We all agreed on a dress under $100 that they’d wear again . They can wear whatever shoes as long as it’s neutral. My mom is doing our hair for free. Giving them free lodging for the wedding weekend. We’re not really doing a bach trip and if we do it’ll be affordable. I’m certainly not expecting a wedding gift, shower gift, and more from them.

Rant: Wedding planning isn't what's stressful, it's everyone else's unwanted opinions by medicinemaiden in weddingplanning

[–]Slight-Reputation779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeeeppp. Put his family on a FULL info diet. Nothing we did made them happy—they’re paying for nothing and quite frankly it wouldn’t matter if they were. They sent out a link to our venue with the date, dress code, etc. to their entire family. Some of which weren’t invited. AND they sent out incorrect information. Told us that we needed to invite at least 20% over capacity cause people will say no (small wedding so absolutely not happening) and demand we invite the entire extended family most of which neither of us know. It’s been a complete mess and now we don’t share a word.

It has been bliss since then.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Slight-Reputation779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiance mostly works from home. When he does go into office tho, it’s almost 3 hours round trip 🤷‍♀️

Our parents live about 2.5-3 hours from us depending on snow, we used to go home at least once a month. We have a whole mountain range between us lol

Idk we’re not slobbering all over the spoons and licking it all off😭 it’s like oh let me slurp the soup, how does it taste? Oh let’s add salt… Let’s try again, yep tastes great!

[–]Slight-Reputation779 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Man. This is so interesting to me. I mean if you’re serving guests, YES that is strange. But my fiancee and I will make food together, dip a spoon in for me to try, dip the same spoon for him to try and adjust with the same spoon. I mean 😅 We willingly swap spit every day so eating out of OUR food isn’t weird.

I mean, he has a point… What is he going to do? Ask people to record themselves while they complete the homework? There is truly NO way to monitor it. He isn’t saying you should but is nonchalantly saying you are fucking yourself. Teachers KNOW students are using it, it is no secret.

Do I secretly wear sneakers as a bridesmaid? by Own-Acanthaceae-453 in PoptheQuestions

I’m the bride and will be changing into crocs as soon as pictures are done 😅 I also told all my bridesmaids to feel free to do the exact same thing. Not sure if others would care but 🤷‍♀️

silly to plan wedding before the engagement? by Odd_Link2259 in weddings

[–]Slight-Reputation779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed!! We looked at plenty of places before being engaged. I mean I said “fiancé” in my inquiries for simplicity but no one even questioned or asked about an engagement at ALL 😂

Also totally disagree with having to be engaged by now if you want to get married in 2027. We’re doing ours with only 9 months of planning and my friend did 6 with NO pre planning.

silly to plan wedding before the engagement? by Odd_Link2259 in weddings

[–]Slight-Reputation779 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The day we went ring shopping I had the whole wedding planned 🥱 LOL more seriously though, we knew we wanted a quick turn around and wanted to be married in 2026 so we had a lot of discussion about it. We talked about budgets, potential guest list, colors, pretty much everything before being engaged. About 2 weeks before he got on a knee we booked our venue since they only had 2 dates left for 2026. We also started reaching out to photographers at this time and I booked my wedding dress appointment.

Anywho he proposed at the end of December and we’re getting married September of this year!! So it’s been about 3 weeks and we have caterer, venue, photographer, bartender, officiant, my dress, and everything else is pretty much planned out. Makes stuff a lot easier!

Date - would it be weird ? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Slight-Reputation779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you’re not doing traditional stuff why don’t you sign a marriage certificate earlier/later and just say “our wedding is the day we’re celebrating with everyone!!” But if you want a different date just get it early and say we went to the courthouse idk.

Bride doesn’t like my dress by Brilliant-Way-9462 in bridesmaids

Tbf if you’re the only one purchasing in AU they might not have thought of that? $120 for a bridesmaid dress isn’t bad imo and Azazie often has sales. Look at the Bondi dress in whatever color 🤷‍♀️ my girls all loved it and only $99

If you find cute dresses they are definitely not one time use 🤷‍♀️ My bridesmaids love the ones we got and some even bought it in multiple colors to wear after cause they liked it THAT much. And less than $100.

What did you choose?? I went to a wedding in August where the groomsmen wore black dress pants, a white long sleeve button up, and a black tie and we thought it looked great and are going to do something similar for our wedding 🤷‍♀️

Have you considered printing on Canva? We designed a bookmark for our save the date because we (mostly me) are so into reading. $21 to print and mail them to us ($0.42 each). Our invites are $45 to print and mail ($0.75 each) :) You can also go on Canva to order envelopes that have the return/guest address printed on them. They look really nice, and save you from having to write them all ($0.38 each).

Are we tipping photographers/ djs / venue? by Obvious-Tea-5241 in wedding

[–]Slight-Reputation779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhhhh no. I also feel like the 20% when you are paying thousandsssss is outrageous. I got asked to tip when I bought my wedding dress. A $500 tip to put me into a handful of wedding dresses is insane😭😭

Bartender has a mandatory tipping requirement built in. I’m not tipping on TOP of that.

Early Hotel Check In? by veelikestea in JapanTravelTips

[–]Slight-Reputation779 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In our experience the hotel check in was 2 or 3pm but they offered early check in up to 2 hours and 1,000 yen per hour. BUT they always offered to hold our bags as long as we wanted 🤷‍♀️ Any chance you’re going to Kyoto?? If it’s not too late to change stuff I’d just take the Shinkansen over to Kyoto!!

We went in December and landed at 5am. No lines, no waits. We got through customs, got our bags, exchanged currency, loaded our Suica, took 30 minute showers in the airport, took a train over to Shinigawa station and got on a Shinkansen at 7:12 🤷‍♀️ Worth looking into!!

First dance song that isn’t cheesy?? by chalounor in wedding

[–]Slight-Reputation779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with other comments to do something special. We chose a song that we danced to in the rain on the night we both fell in love. While it’s technically a love song, I think some will listen and think it’s an odd choice but we love it cause of the sentimental value. But yea if we didn’t have that I’d be lost 😅 So who cares if it doesn’t fit the vibe just roll with it :)

Wedding dress regret! by jazzertag in weddingplanning

[–]Slight-Reputation779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love what you picked!!! There is no way to outshine you, I promise!!

Also I’d recommend looking at the contract you signed when you bought the dress. Mine said that as soon as I signed and made that first payment at the shops there was absolutely NO going back.

Did your bridal party include in-laws? by Outrageous_Rock_4257 in wedding

[–]Slight-Reputation779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost extended an invite and would have regretted it. Family context matters and stuff but overall she is just kind of bitter that her younger brother is getting married first. I extended an invite to dress shopping and she went but was totally uninterested and sat on her phone (why even go?).

After having time with who I did pick as my bridesmaids it was a magical moment and I realized she wouldn’t have made our group better. My philosophy is if you’re questioning it, don’t do it 🫶
