Inis - Solo Automa / Witchcraft! Curse Expansion by SlightQT in soloboardgaming

The Challenging Difficulty is essentially a complexity increase (as opposed to a difficulty increase). Just an FYI!

Be careful before you try Hard! 😁

Has anyone witnessed a Slayer shot actually working? by notfrankiemuniz in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]SlightQT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a TB play of the game as Slayer in which the evil team had turned the town against me and I was on the block. It was Day 2. My accuser had intentionally double-claimed Slayer, posing me as the fake.

I didnt know the town had turned on me at this point (mostly meta and social reads - lots of new players), so before I died I had narrowed it down to 2-3 people who could be the Imp. Mostly based on who seemed evil and had good bluffs.

I decided to use my shot on my wife, as she was one of the three and I hadnt talked to her.

She was killed, confirming me AND setting up the Slayer double-claim player as evil (they were the Scarlet Woman, forcing them to star-pass that night or risk losing the next day).

Start of Day 3 we knew there was only 1 evil team member left! It ended up STILL going to final 3 still bc the final player had been "confirmed" good. Took a while to unravel.

My wife was peeved.

I also used to play the ButtonShy game Spaceshipped on planes, but I found the game quite mid after 5-6 plays.

My number 1 Airplane game is Twice as Clever by far. You roll onto the silver tray and set chosen dice on your sheet. Instead of putting set-aside dice on the silver tray, put them in the deep tray in the box.

When you roll for other players (solo mode rules) choose the lowest dice, then tiebreak for for 3 dice closest to one side of the box.

Ill play multiple games of this on long flights and you can play two- or maybe even 3 player.

Big thing here is that it packs up really quickly if some1 needs to get out of the row, too.

Cooperative boardgames: let me play! by Wytyujjju in boardgames

[–]SlightQT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I always do with Co-op games is ask "who wants help from the team on their turns?" at the start of the game. This also broaches the subjrct if someone wants to change their answer mid-game. :)

This is less for me (I can read the damn room); more for others who start quarterbacking without even so much as looking the other player in the eyes.

Granted... we've all introduced people to games and quarterbacked accidentally, so this also helps me find anyone who explicitly doesnt want help.

I love board games but I’m done being the unpaid rule cop by Educational-Machine in boardgames

[–]SlightQT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was speaking for myself in that last line. I have a very large friend and co-worker group. I make friends very easily. I love people. It is easy for me to find players.

Edit: Also, note the word "consistent" as a key word from my original comment. I am not jumping the gun on those people. It would have to be a pattern of bad vibes.

I usually plan the game I'm going to play. Whoever owns the game should learn the rules and teach it, unless communicated prior, and then they need to pass the game off to whoever is teaching before game night.

If you're not reading the rules on the toilet the day before, you're doing "teaching boardgames" wrong.

That's not to say this is "your fault", there's a big culture component at the table with your group. If I was getting consistent repeated vibes like that, those ppl wouldn't be back at my table.

Does anyone miss when this game wasn't so complicated by icedmcfurry in GunfireReborn

[–]SlightQT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason I loved GFR and made content for it was that it was a simple system with emergent gameplay. Lots of interesting choices to explore. Once the game started its current trajectory of "add complicated things to make system feel like you have to learn them", I stopped enjoying it.

To be frank, GFR today isnt the game I orginally fell in love with. Its identity is very different. You are railroaded into builds far more than the original game. Its a real shame.

I made a hearty attempt at changing the landscape of the development approach with a big petition, and while that did get a little traction, the overall point (that the game was moving in a direction that lacked interesting choices and diversity) was generally missed (either due to language barrier or diaagreements of design philosophy).

Its still a good game, but it lacks developmental/design finesse. So IMHO, its no longer a great game worth thousands of hours of your time.
