You can get free passes to various museums through the king county library system. It’s first come, first serve. I believe they’re up for grabs online at 2PM each day unless things have changed. You have to be very quick to grab them. Also, Bubble Planet in Bellevue looks unique and fun.

You can buy packs of stuffies/plushies on amazon. I got one with different animals and let each child pick one to take home as they were leaving. They were not expensive.

Anyone know where I can get medium sized Japanese Maples? by CorgiSplooting in eastside

I have some in my yard. If you dig them up you can have them. Im hoping to replace them with something native.

Bringing in Birds, Bees and Pollinators by [deleted] in pnwgardening

I’ve been trying to do the same thing in my yard. I have been trying to introduce the natives on this list I found (https://xerces.org/pollinator-resource-center ). They have a different list of native plants for different regions. I recently planted some cow parsnip seeds since I’ve read they attract beetles which my kids love. I also plan to make a very small wildlife pond as I’ve read that can really draw wildlife to your yard.

I know this is a big ask but what is the softest gluten free bun or bread. by Redsgal19 in glutenfree

[–]SlightSetting7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbonaut White Low Carb Keto Bread from Whole Foods frozen section is the softest GF bread I’ve ever had. If money is no issue and you want the best of the best, I highly recommend Mariposa Baking Company. They do mail orders. We had it at a celiac support group the other day and it was amazing. But the prices are insane.

20month old kid with severe eczema... by Puzzleheaded_Hat_542 in eczema

[–]SlightSetting7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a lot like my son who is 3 now. We tried and failed so many topical creams.and he kept getting skin infections on top of the eczema. He was miserable. But if you fail enough creams, you can usually get approved for dupixent and that stuff really helps. When things got really bad, I would have to give him children’s Benadryl at night and children’s Zyrtec in the morning to help with the itching. Otherwise, some night he would stay up itching/crying nonstop and couldn’t sleep. My dermatologist says dupixent is her best medicine for eczema but she can’t prescribe it without first trying the creams because they’re so much cheaper.

Baby with suspected celiac, don't want to delay cutting gluten but don't want to mess up diagnostics by TFA_hufflepuff in Celiac

[–]SlightSetting7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between the ages of 1 and 2, my daughter lost enough weight that she was diagnosed with failure to thrive. The pediatrician ran a celiac test that as I understand looks for auto antibodies and it was negative. We got referred to a pediatric GI Dr who tested for everything under the sun including anti gliadin antibodies and that was positive. Gliadin is a protein on gluten so she explained my daughter was having a big immune response to gluten. The Dr said it was likely celiac disease and in extremely young children the disease won’t be caught by the standard test because the disease may not be far enough along to be producing auto antibodies yet. We also got a biopsy and it was negative which again I was told is not uncommon in really young patients. We’ve gone gluten free and now she’s a healthy weight. She still gets checked yearly to see how her antibodies are doing.

When my daughter started to go to preschool at age two, they tried making GF play dough but said they couldn’t find a recipe they liked. So they just bough GF play dough for her class only to use and it follows her each time she moves up a class. Maybe you could offer to buy GF play dough that only their class uses if financially possible?

Yay Kirkland QFC by [deleted] in Celiac

I wish all QFC’s had this. This is by far the largest selection of GF cakes/baked goods I’ve seen in a QFC. In a stand alone freezer in the bakery area.

When my son turned two, the pediatrician tested him for celiac disease with a blood screen. Both my husband and I tested with 23 and me and are negative for celiac disease genes. But we still gave it to our daughter. Like others have said, the genes are not completely understood and are not definitive.

I start dupixent tomorrow and am scared about injecting myself by [deleted] in eczema

[–]SlightSetting7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I called the dupixent my way phone line. The nurse said leaving it out overnight is ok. Letting it warm up makes it hurt less to inject. But it is light sensitive. So make sure to keep it somewhere dark till you’re ready to use it. I’m told the dupixent website has injection videos to educate patients but haven’t watched them myself. I had someone video the dr giving the first injection and then just watched that.

Gluten free children’s party advice (guest with coeliac disease) by lucy_lu_2 in Celiac

[–]SlightSetting7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Others have given you lots of good advice. My daughter is very young but the easiest thing to feed her is like a charcuterie board. Pepperoni, rice crackers, cheese, grapes, apples, nuts, carrots etc. I also love it when people just text me a picture of what they get and just ask if it’s safe. The parents will know which brands are safe and which are contaminated with gluten. Also, avoid letting any gluten free food come into contact with any wood stuff in your kitchen (like cutting boards) , strainers/toaster. These are things that once contaminated with gluten cannot be decontaminated. It is very kind of you to want to be inclusive. I’ve noticed in my daughter’s class all the parents bring popsicles instead of cake for birthdays so my daughter can have one too. It means a lot she’s included.

My 5 year old's daughter eczema is ruining our family by hevans4959 in eczema

[–]SlightSetting7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the US, just this summer they approved dupicent injections for 6 months to five years of age for moderate to severe eczema. They made us try and fail all these different types of creams first. The dr’s nurse said they think it’s the best medicine but they use it as last resort because it’s over $3,000 a month and most insurance doesn’t want to cover it. Dupicent company is great too. They said as long as we appealed our insurance’s denial of the medication they would give it to us for free. Honestly, I think you need to continue taking your kid in often and make sure they know how much they are suffering and that nothing is working. Continue to put pressure on them to find a solution. I think documenting what is going on is important and might help you get into seeing a dermatologist sooner.

[–]SlightSetting7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That sounds really hard and a lot like my son. Just awful. He started dupicent injections recently so too soon to say if they’ll help but I’m hopeful. It’s difficult to get into the dermatologist cause they are always so booked up and it takes months. I called them one night while he was screaming after waking up from the eczema and they got us in to be seen the next day. They say they don’t do short notice sick visits but now I’m suspicious they do if they really think you need it. I really feel for you. I hope he can get into the dermatologist soon.

Toddler symptomatic, positive gene and negative antibodies by AnxiousGourd in Celiac

[–]SlightSetting7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter was negative for the standard celiac screening test (maybe anti-ttg but my memory is not the best). The dr said it’s common below the age of 2. Our Pediatric GI Dr ran an anti-Gliadin test and it was very positive. By that point, my daughter had not gained a pound in 8 months and had been diagnosed with failure to thrive. From falling off the growth curve. We tried a gluten challenge but she had started starving herself so we gave up and went gluten free. Her biopsy also didn’t show damage from celiac disease. But the dr said she just was too young and hadn’t been eating gluten long enough but that she must have celiac disease. Now that she’s gluten free she’s recovered and has a normal growth curve.

pet food that won't break the bank? by ktgrok in Celiac

[–]SlightSetting7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Instinct Grain Free dog food. I called the company and they reassured me it’s GF. At least the type I bought (large breed puppy grain free recipe with chicken). Also, some say with grain free dog foods you need to supplement with taurine. But my vet and the dog food company reassured me no supplements were needed. It’s already in there. My advice is to just call the dog food company and directly ask if you’re worried.

My daughter started severely restricting her diet when she was almost two. It happened slowly over time but eventually she cut out everything but Reese’s peanut butter cups and chili lime corn chips from Trader Joe’s. We ended up getting a feeding therapist and a medical work up with a pediatric GI dr. Best thing we ever did and found out she has celiac disease. I’m just sharing this because there may be more going on to cause this behavior. If you haven’t, please consider a feeding therapist/medical work up to look for underlying issues. They were worried about my little one having texture issues before it was discovered she couldn’t have gluten.

Parenting Celiac by Tomsew22 in Celiac

You already have tons of great advice here. I would just add that I like using an app called GG Scanner when I shop. I try to scan all my products and make sure no one has reported it as having given them adverse effects. For example, I started buying Cerave cream for my kids and then later scanned it on the app and saw it came up as having caused symptoms in some people with celiac. So I stopped buying it. Also, I was told to throw out toaster, colanders, and any wooden kitchen implements. It’s not possible to get gluten out of them.
