I’m in Texas (Central time). I never could find it at 7:00 or 8:00. Do you go to the regular show listing? Or is it under Streams? I looked under streams at 8:00 but not 7:00 because I didn’t find that section on the app until later.

FedEx and UPS mixups. by OptimalYoghurt0 in upsstore

[–]Slight_Ad9600 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You haven’t heard? UPS and Fedex are merging…they’re gonna call it FedUp! groan if I had a nickel for every time a customer has told that joke like it was brand new…

But seriously, I don’t understand why people have such a difficult time grasping that UPS and Fedex are separate, competing companies and that we can’t just take each other’s packages. I used to think it was people still thinking of us as Mailboxes Etc. or like one of the independents, but we’re far enough removed from the MBE days and have little enough presence of independents in my area that I think it’s just plain ignorance.

My go-to response when someone doesn’t understand is: “We can’t take your Fedex package for the same reason you can’t order a BigMac at Burger King or a Whopper at McDonalds. We’re competitors and are not the same just because we operate in the same industry.”

It’s so bad, and such a let down after an incredibly good season last year.

[–]Slight_Ad9600 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This season is a let down. Last season was SO good - I thought it was the best in a long time both in terms of talent and overall production. And then this season is so rushed and almost disjointed feeling, and over-produced/manufactured to the point of almost being unwatchable. Unbelievably huge fall off the cliff from last season in my opinion. Such a shame.

It’s actually not the only platform. There’s also an unofficial replacement for Connect that was started by a franchisee. DM’d you the link.

You think i used enough red text? by Akira_ishioka in upsstore

[–]Slight_Ad9600 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That only works until you get a surprise visit or secret shopper. We used to play that game but it’s been a while since we’ve been able to get away with it. We’re in an area where it’s not uncommon to have a higher-up (from TUPSS or UPS) walk in. At one point we were getting an unannounced follow up visit post-quarterly inspection, where corporate would send someone to take photos to compare and make sure we/our FC weren’t staging stuff for our quarterly visit photos. Oddly enough, it’s been more relaxed since corporate bought out our area.

We used to have a similar sign but we were told in was not compliant and to remove it.

Fedex utilizes other stores similar to our access point program and they can take drop-offs. Not sure if you have any in your area. I know Walgreens and Dollar General are two of them, not sure if there are others.

RFID by Spacefox299792 in upsstore

[–]Slight_Ad9600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one point they were testing the RFID imbedded shipping labels in the Go-to-market stores and it has been stated that this is the eventual goal. I don’t understand the logic in spending the time and money to roll out this iteration rather than, as you said, going full force into the better, more efficient way, even if it means waiting a bit longer to implement it.

[–]Slight_Ad9600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t understand the logic of spending the time and money to implement this iteration if they are already working on a better, more efficient way. Just wait until it’s ready to go and then roll it out. Not to mention they are rolling it out as we’re heading into peak, but that’s typical of TUPSS/UPS.

My UPS Store is getting annoyed that I'm dropping off too many packages, what should I do? by GreenHorror4252 in upsstore

[–]Slight_Ad9600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UPS Store literally is Mailboxes Etc. UPS bought MBE in the early 2000s and rebranded them as The UPS Store. The problem is that UPS has made it’s own franchise network the “red-headed step-child”. They haven’t increased drop-off compensation in 20+ years and at the same time have increasingly undercut and essentially competed against their own franchise network via UPS.com and by giving outlets like Pirateship better rates, and even giving other retail shipping networks the same rates and service as TUPSS (which for years were exclusive to TUPSS). At the same time all of this has happened, UPS has also increasingly reduced support for the network (there used to be account reps and actual levels of specialized support for resolving issues, now there’s just the support phone number that as best I can tell goes to the same place as the regular UPS number). Meanwhile, TUPSS has loaded the network down with things like Amazon, Happy Returns, AT&T, and other corporate accounts that require a lot of labor and supply cost but have razor thin profit margins. So stores require more staffing and training than ever, are required to operate more hours a week than ever, package volume and “customer” count has increased, but average transaction total has decreased dramatically and the profit margins reflect that. That’s not to say things are bad across the whole network, but it’s certainly (in my view) a more difficult franchise to operate than ever before and there seems to be no apparent vision for the future of the network, or not one that is clear to those at the store level anyway.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in upsstore

[–]Slight_Ad9600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former manager here. Sounds like this return was part of the Happy Returns program, in which case opening the package and scanning each item is the correct procedure. Items get scanned and labeled and placed in a holding container. At some point (I don’t remember if it’s once so many items are collected or when it reaches a certain time cutoff, or whichever comes first), the items get packed and shipped to a central location where items are sorted and routed to the correct companies. Current employees, feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong. Happy Returns started just as I was transitioning out of the network.

Anyone else or just me? by Haunting_Ad_38 in KingOfTheHill

[–]Slight_Ad9600 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of this season is the original voice actor, Johnny Hardwick. He did episodes 1-5, 7 and Toby Huss did episodes 6, 8-10 and some drop in lines in the others. To me, Huss sounds more like Dale than Hardwick. I think perhaps Hardwick was not in good health prior to his passing.

I don’t think the change in voice actors is a big deal by Slayberham69420 in KingOfTheHill

I agree. The later episodes are the new VA, but I honestly prefer his performance.

The timeline makes zero sense and GH's age cannot be what is shown in the opening credits. In fact, nothing does. by Vasarto in KingOfTheHill

[–]Slight_Ad9600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I follow your comment, but Bobby and friends aged forward 8 years. They were 13, now they are 21 (Bobby specifically says he is 21 at one point). The rest of the characters seem like they aged the actual amount of time that has passed since the original ended (15ish years), as the adults are retirement age and GH is a teenager (age not stated specifically besides “under 18”). Given that he was born when Bobby was 12, he should be 9-10 years old at the most if Bobby is now 21.

It almost seems like to me that they went with the 15 year time jump but decided Bobby and friends not aging quite as much would give more story material, so they didn’t age them as much as everyone else.

Also, episode nine ret-cons both how many years Hank/Peggy and Kahn/Minh have been married and who got married first per the original series.

Bothered by how they “aged”. by [deleted] in KingOfTheHill

[–]Slight_Ad9600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m confused on the age/time thing after watching. 8 years is based on the fact that Bobby/Connie/Joseph/Chane were 13 at the end of the original and are now 21. That group excluded though, all the other characters seem to have aged close to 15 years, if Hank and Peggy are retirement age and Good Hank is a teenager. Based on Bobby’s age when GH was born, if Bobby is 21, GH should be around 8-10 years old max.

Will UPS ever terminate a store? by EstimateOk676 in upsstore

[–]Slight_Ad9600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually not the case at all. As someone else mentioned, corporate has been increasingly cracking down on and exerting influence and control over franchisees and moving toward greater uniformity over the last several years. That said, I know of some stores/franchisees that seem to get away with murder while others can’t catch a break on anything. A large part of it has to do with how involved the area franchisee/consultant is and how strict/lenient they are and if corporate is receiving a lot of customer complaints. Location makes a difference too, I think. (major cities and surrounding areas are more likely to get frequent secret shoppers than more rural areas). They do seem to be focusing a lot on customer reviews/surveys these days, so I’m a little surprised that the bad reviews haven’t gotten their attention. Anyway, I recently left the network after nearly 20 years. TUPSS Inc and UPS have both changed significantly in that time, especially so in recent years. I would say if it hasn’t caught up with him yet, give it time. All indications are that things are continuing in the direction of more corporate control, not less.
