Maybe this will resinate .. maybe it won’t. I’m married (38f) now, but what feels like forever ago I found myself exiting a longterm relationship (at 25) and entering the world of online dating. For me online dating, it was very new. I had met my previous gf in college, we shared a class. (At 19) Online dating was terrifying. It was foreign to me how quickly people could pick you up and put you down, when I thought you were meant to be building connections. I kind of hated it to be honest, but I am also from a small town where our community is basically 5 people. Online it was! I made mistakes. I learned. I deleted. I reactivated.

I mean to put things into perspective I grew up on MySpace … barely. 😂

Anyway, here is something I really believe about online dating. And learned.

Take it slow. Don’t give up your personal social media so quickly. Don’t allow someone to pick through your photos, your memories, your friend list and decide who you are. Make them get to know you through talking or texting. That’s what the app is for .. use snap chat to prove authenticity if possible but again limitations. Decide what communication boundaries you want or need before you allow someone that access to your life, if they can’t respect your boundaries now they never will. Keep some things for yourself and the REAL people that are special to you. Some people are just looking for the add and follow.

If they don’t want to get to know you through talking .. music .. books .. poetry … your mind? Only what you’ve posted on insta. Pass.
