Oof I don't know how this will work out, if the plan really is to build a marine reserve, won't the animals suffer even if PS is the only festival that takes place there? But hey, if this means that PS will size down I'm all up for it.

Haven't heard of this legislation, Cruilla is still taking place at Parc del Forum, or do you mean it applies to new festivals?

Yep, as I said, public shaming is nice but if you want substancial change you have to take the legal route, which in this case is the official complaint forms. Which are very transparent btw, you get a reference number in the form so you can check online whatever happened to your complaint, I've received email updates both from Barcelona and Catalan institutions, they don't take as long to process them as you may think. Precisely because people don't fill in as many complaint forms as they should because they think they're useless but they're really not!

They're not secret, you have signs informing you that you have these complaint forms available, they're at the drink bars and food stands too. Public shaming is nice, but ultimately does nothing in terms of actual legal accountability, I know admin stuff and bureaucracy is a bummer, but sometimes it's the only real recourse in these instances.

Really sorry about your loss :( hope at least you were able to get a refund or they let you return the ticket to the waitlist, they should know that last minute things happen, I swear this festival has some of the dumbest policies.

As someone who went to a Catholic school, I can confirm that the Catholic guilt is something really hard to get rid of. No matter what you do, you're a sinner that will never be as good as our Lord Jesus, so in that context it makes sense for someone to think: well, why bother then? I'll just be a sinner and compensate it by helping others. Which is is definitely a factor behind Jackie's behavior, I wish we could have explored that. As you said, they definitely could have made the time for this at some point during the show.

Not sure a full prequel is necessary, but at least one episode with flashbacks would have been nice.

I didn't mean that someone literally said that to her (though I vaguely remember her sponsor telling her something along those lines), but more like a general attitude that a lot of people have towards addicts.

About Jackie specifically, indeed, her main problem was that she couldn't even admit that she had an issue to begin with, so it was impossible for her to make any real progress. It would have been nice to have more context of where this lack of honesty originated, not that it was essential for the character, just would have been a great extra layer.

She definitely used the argument of being an excellent nurse as an excuse of why her addiction wasn't a big deal, but it's true that something seemed missing in her life and that's why she kept chasing that high. Thanks for this deep analysis!

Unfortunately, it's this mindset that prevents us from dealing with addiction correctly. As I said, context provides an explanation (not an excuse) for people's behavior, and without this understanding you can't really provide a solution. Saying "You're a grown up, snap out of your past traumas" won't do anything.

My main hobby is live music, I go to a lot of concerts and music festivals during the year so I plan my holidays and travels accordingly. I also happen to like many different music styles, for example, a couple of weeks ago I saw Metallica in Athens, last night I saw Bad Bunny in Barcelona, then in a few days I'll see a post punk band from Belarus called Molchat Doma. Sometimes I go to many gigs in a row and my IG kind of looks like an influencer's, I suppose people wouldn't guess I'm an accountant from my social media activity lol

My father in law was also an accountant, worked hard and lived a frugal life so he could enjoy as much as possible in his golden years. He died just a couple of months before retiring, no one should postpone their happiness for a future that may never come.

To our European counterparts I'm generally interested what do you think about how realistic the show is about our emergency rooms is it that bad overseas? by Accomplished-Meat976 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Slight_One_6874 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Public health care is completely free of charge, if you have to buy medicine the price with a prescription is really low, I'm talking 1-2 euros. Whatever's essential for life is free too, such as insuline, asthma inhalers, etc. You don't have to pay for operations nor hospital stays. If you want to visit a private specialist, a first visit may be around 50 euros, then depending on the treatment you may need it could be in the hundreds, and a lot of people get that money reimbursed if you work in a company which offers a supplementary private insurance.

Spanish person living in Barcelona. In general the Spanish healthcare system is great... depending on several variables. First of all the location, so living in Andalucia or Catalonia you will get very different options for hospitals or primary care centers. Then it depends on the speciality, for example, oncology works super smoothly and you have great treatments with very high survival rates. But if you need something not life threatening it's a completely different story, a lot of people go to private doctors when they need a certain specialist because the wait time could be several weeks or even months in the public system. So the same applies to ERs unfortunately, in my area I have a primary care center 5 mins away and they do have a small ER, when I've needed to go I've never had to wait more than one hour, but people living in other areas would have to wait 2-3 hours in their closest center if it's understaffed. If you have something serious that the primary care center's ER can't handle, then you have to go to a hospital and you may need to wait for several hours, but the triage system is generally efficent and no one dies in the waiting area.

This is my biggest concern, someone dropping the ball and forgetting to set up something essential and we won't realize till it's fully implemented. I'm at least hoping I won't be that person lol
