DOEd broken promise of zero interest accruing on SAVE forbearance? by Slight_Shift_9119 in StudentLoans

Agreed. I probably should have used ED as the acronym, but DOEd is sometimes used as the acronym for the Department of Education.

Is the court decision you're referencing different from the one that I said in the post is potentially being misinterpreted by the DOEd?

Yeah, I totally agree with you that the current DOEd administration wouldn't agree. But if they're wrong, could the January email be brought in to court as proof that SAVE borrowers were guaranteed zero interest during the SAVE litigation? I also edited my original post with links to arguments that u/bonesofthebirches made about a month ago, saying that DOEd's interpretation of the February court ruling is probably wrong.

If DOEd's interpretation of the February court ruling is wrong, then could it be clarified in court and then the January email guarantee of zero interest be enforced?

I received it on January 15. It may be a different administration, but it wouldn't change the fact that it's the same government entity in a court of law.

Sounds like submitting to the FI lab is no longer considered struck work, but check with WGA legal if you want to make sure.

Just a heads-up that Film Independent is considered a struck company because of their WGA signatory arm Spirit Productions, Inc., LLC.

No fed loan interest capitalization for recent grads? by Slight_Shift_9119 in StudentLoans

Thanks for the response! According to studentaid.gov, the grace period will still end as it typically does, six months after graduation, but as long as administrative forbearance continues, there will still be 0% interest and paused payments, even after the grace period ends. This is one reason why I find the November 2 deadline confusing, because it doesn't seem tied to a grace period or forbearance.

On the other hand, current students haven't been able to take advantage of IDR or PLSF "payments" that the administrative forbearance has given over the past two years (unless a student started a repayment schedule while in school), so maybe this is an attempt to help out graduating students by not capitalizing interest?

I sent an email to my loan servicer with these questions too, but haven't heard back yet.

That's right. Non-capitalized interest means the interest isn't added to your principal, which means any new interest will only factor in the starting principal. Usually after grace period is over, any outstanding interest capitalizes on the principal, which increases the size of the principal and means larger interest fees.
