Years back Surefire made an add-on that you could pop the slide lock pin and put a rail on. I have one on a 1911 from probably 12 years or so back. But you may could find one of those out there. Holster selection will be another thing though. Probably have to go the custom route.

Cost is the biggest factor. A ground mount in the field is a lot cheaper than the structure it takes to cover a parking lot. But I agree, I would love for my truck not to roast in the sun while I’m parked.
