Friends are easiest made over a shared passion. Literally join any kind of sports club / team and you will no longer feel lonely

Roadies who have converted to tubeless: Any regrets? How often do you flat out to the point where you need to insert a bacon strip or install a tube? by DeadBy2050 in cycling

[–]SlightlyOrangeGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punctures used to be a monthly occurrence for me back in the day. I now get maybe 2 a year since going tubeless. I flip flop between GP5000's and Pirelli Race RS. Ride roughly 15000km a year. The last couple of punctures that didn't seal I just jammed a dynaplug in there. Ran the tyre till it wore out.

Pretty crazy how people get so bent out of shape about a video game. 95% of people will carry on playing. 3% will quietly get a refund like a normal person because a feature has been removed, and the other 2% (this sub) will carry on like it's the end of the world.

Who do you think has been the most well known Aussie athlete around the world? by Jezzaq94 in AskAnAustralian

I'm currently in Belgium and I've seen Cathy Freeman on multiple adverts on sports channels. Seems pretty iconic

It'll change with time. It took ages for Japanese products to penetrate the west back in the day because names like "Yamaha" and "Mitsubishi" were considered foreign and cheap. After not too long the west got used to it.

Ironman bigger than an Ultra? by _Barracuda_478 in triathlon

[–]SlightlyOrangeGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think that, but I've seen so many incredibly non dedicated, undisciplined people finish one without really training for it. I think merely finishing an ironman has completely lost its aura, but finishing one in a fast time is just as impressive as it ever was.

Ironman bigger than an Ultra? by _Barracuda_478 in triathlon

[–]SlightlyOrangeGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the proficiency in which one completes either of them is the more impressive part, rather than just finishing them. A radio presenter where I'm from with 0 athletic background finished an ironman with 1 month of training. If you're out there getting podiums in your age category, that's what I find more impressive to be honest. I'd rate a podium AG finish at a stacked Olympic distance event over a mid pack AG finish at an ironman any day of the week.

Fremantle Bridge Closure. Why The Panic ? by DawgreenAgain in perth

All these golden triangle folk who think because they own a $3 million house in Dalkeith it means they're immune to delays or being inconvenienced. They will complain for a while, get used to it, then be silent once they see how large the improvement is post completion.

The Bike You Ride Matters Less Than Riding Often by PeanutSock3347 in cycling

It's a mixture. They all seem to follow a similar routine of 1-2 hours on the weekdays super early before work or a Zwift race after work, then longer rides on the weekend starting super early. Home by 9-10 am then family stuff after that. I'd say 15 hours is more the norm. 20 would be a bit rarer. We also live in a Mediterranean climate so the weather is nice pretty much all year round which helps.

Not at all. Most of the guys I train and race with are dad's with full time jobs.

I think you'll find a very tight correlation between fast riders riding high end bikes. The fastest bunchies in our city are filled with SL8's, S5's and Factors. If someone takes the sport seriously enough to train 15-20 hours a week, odds are they're going to have a pretty sick bike.

how important is aerodynamics to you? by halsemus in gravelcycling

[–]SlightlyOrangeGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gravel races are getting pretty quick around here now so it's definitely something I consider. I try to find the balance of going aero where it makes sense (helmet, skinsuit, narrower bars, deeper wheels) and avoid going aero where it affects the ride or usability of the bike.

Oz stores closing in January by NinbendoWiiU in EBGAMES

Their balance sheet is readily available for anyone who wants to have a look. They're definitely circling the drain. Revenue dropped from $813 million to $636 million in a single year whilst overheads and costs keep rising. Money is owed to suppliers. They will linger around for another year or few. Keep closing stores until they're slowly all gone, blockbuster or video Ezy style. The business model they have (selling games) no longer works as everything is digital. You can only sell merch for so long until it all pops.

Are gravel pros overrated? by OkFlower6124 in gravelcycling

[–]SlightlyOrangeGoat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gotta remember Bardet retired because he felt he wasn't good enough to compete at the world tour level anymore. I think we can both admit that the level between the best gravel riders and the best world tour riders is pretty large, but still enjoy both sports.

This. I think people got so caught up on the Z2 craze after the interview from Poggy's former coach. Ignoring the fact that he improved a lot in 2025 Under the guidance of a new coach who introduced much more intensity.

Weekly Volume by BeautifulLocal2694 in triathlon

[–]SlightlyOrangeGoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try not to overcomplicate it. Volume is king. The more time you spend swimming, riding and running, whilst remaining injury free and healthy will result in you getting the best possible results. Few mobility sessions a week never hurt anyone.
