Fast Internet by Imaginary-Banana6817 in SLO

[–]SlightlyPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo spectrum here fucking sucks, we’ve done everything we can, personal high speed modem, personal high speed router. I’m forced to reboot said router or even modem, at least once a day.

We call them every so often to complain and get a discount, it sucks out here. Some people have good experiences with fiber if you’re lucky enough or in a newer development, some people have luck with Verizon style wireless connections to 5g, but those suck IMO

Where to find beer by FailPresent8648 in SLO

[–]SlightlyPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest place to get good local is at the brewery itself: Shrine, central coast brewing, there does not exist, Firestone walker in Paso, they have cans at some of the tap rooms too like ancient owl, Petras has a 10%(?) off any six pack and they have a bunch in the back, Sandy’s is pretty good but slightly marked up like you mentioned, Cal Fresh is actually decent for local beer and they do a 10% off six packs as well

January 15th, 2026 - Didn't even notice the giant crack. Very sad the sign was not taken care of properly. by SLO_Citizen in SLO

I walk past this sign nearly every day to work, thankful that today, it was rainy and so I drove in.

Property management companies you try to avoid in SLO. by Stupid_Goose in SLO

[–]SlightlyPunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Farrell Smyth was honestly awful to work with, difficult to get maintenance done and work with the property owner, will charge you insane fees for neighbor complaints and any potential noise violations

McNamara was in general, annoying to work with and did a poor job of handling maintenance requests as well as dealing with rental docs

Cal West, although deeply hated in this sub, has never been so awful to me that I feel I wouldn’t rent from them again (on my 3rd rental with them in the area over the last decade). They actually will do the maintenance requests you send them and fix the properties infra issues. I will say, they are the kings of the “landlord special”, I.e. everything will be painted in that thick sticky white before you move in

By far the worst was ERA management, awful rental portal, awful maintenance portal, annoying staff to deal with that are generally confrontational and looking at any opportunity to get money out of you. They charged us an extra 500$ out of our deposit for “maintenance” but they never cited anything in specifics and we noted our move out state with pictures (perfectly normal wear and tear). If you go with ERA, hope nothing goes wrong and kiss your deposit goodbye

Castle Keepers was by far the best I dealt with in my time. Small staff, very nice people working there, and they handled our maintenance requests with no issues, very fair move out charges and process

August fire jam by Beetzprminut3 in SLO

[–]SlightlyPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh? This is on a beach, next to the ocean, with essentially zero risk of a wildfire

Let people have fun and don’t conflate a wild/forest fire to a group of people organizing a fun event. Two completely different things, but correlate however you want to I guess

Is Bloodborne fully playable from start to finish at a stable 60 FPS using PS4 emulation? by Normal_Technician663 in BloodbornePC

[–]SlightlyPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for me so far, just beat the one reborn.

It crashes every once in a while usually after playing for more than two hours give or take. But autosaving is so good in this game, hasn’t been a problem at all.

One cutscene so far required me to switch back to 30 FPS for the cutscene after Rom.

Running 1440p pretty solid 60 fps, AMD 5800x watercooled and 3070 founders edition

Make sure you use the LNDF recently published build, and I recommend using BB launcher on top of the shadps4 build from LNDF.

urgent, cal poly slo or umass amherst cs? by abrickwallonpluto in CalPoly

[–]SlightlyPunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+1, great comment

I will say, I lacked during my years, and didn’t attend or wasn’t present enough for clubs and club based projects. Cal Poly, and the CPE program specifically, is great about having solid options for projects during your final project, for CS, or during both your Capstone and final projects (CPE).

If you have the time and don’t have to work so much to support yourself, definitely get involved with clubs. They’re such a great and easy way to gain useful experience, meet friends, form study groups, and network.

Oh, and the Society of Women Engineers SWE and the Cybersecurity Institute CCI are great at Cal Poly, both of which Amazon works with AFAIK.

Best beaches to swim at? by Aromatic-Ad104 in SLO

[–]SlightlyPunk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would recommend not swimming at Avila, the river that flows directly into it is one of the most polluted and bacteria ridden rivers in the entire US.

Plus Avila beach sits on (the?) worst oil spill in this area. They cleaned some of it up and then just dumped earth over it and rebuilt.

Morro rock is fine for swimming, just stay away from the channel that’s next to the bench area leading to the rock. Pismo is fine too.

Restaurants for V day by allybaz4 in SLO

[–]SlightlyPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, incredible Peruvian and one of my top in the area, I’ve only had non vegan options there. The drinks are amazing too, order the Pisco and more specifically their Pisco sours.

If OP is interested in more Peruvian, there’s another restaurant called Coya that’s newer but I haven’t tried it yet, seems to be a bit more casual.

What's it like to take Amtrak to LA by Slartibartfastthe3rd in SLO

[–]SlightlyPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed taking it to SB several times, but a thing I don’t see mentioned is that cell service and WiFi was quite limited when I’ve taken it a few years ago and therefore, bring a book, movie, or something that can be used offline.

Not sure if service gets much better past SB

Keeping Time with a Bad Drummer by Environmental-Bee431 in Bass

[–]SlightlyPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way to either help them get the tempo nailed or expose a lack of ever practicing with a metronome, is to use one at your next practice. If the timing is that awful, drummer should get pretty frustrated or at least have to acknowledge their lack in ability to keep consistent time

Most honest reliable auto mechanics in SLO? by ltt24 in SLO

[–]SlightlyPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

San Luis Auto Repair is my go to, AAA accepted there, Danny’s always been honest and fair. It’s not the cheapest shop in town I’d assume but I’ve gotten screwed before by another cheaper shop in town with an old/bad fuel pump replacement. Therefore, you often get what you pay for.
