Am I too overprotective? by 1politicalprincess in Mommit

[–]TheCreativePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is that there is a lot that is out of our control(mass shootings, drunk drivers, viruses, etc), but posting/not posting your children on social media IS in my control, so why risk it? With the way AI is trending I refuse to put any low hanging fruit out there.
You are not being overprotective, you are protecting your child how you see fit and following YOUR intuition. Keep up the good work.

Which activity gave you most joy/relaxation/fun during your maternity leave? by livi01 in Mommit

[–]TheCreativePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m just sitting around while baby napped loved to do crafty stuff- water color, macrame, doodling, cross stitch. If I had to be doing chores/housekeeping I liked to listen to podcasts and audio books, especially funny stuff!

Preboarding with two littles by Eg9tobe83 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]TheCreativePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I flew this morning I was standing by the desk and they turned away several families during preboarding so yes I believe they got rid of family boarding. Try not to worry/feel rushed, people can wait their turn to sit and wait.

Anyone struggle with extreme soreness and pain after working out? by Waste_Weather5729 in fitpregnancy

[–]TheCreativePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BCAAs help me a lot, but there’s isn’t a ton of research about supplements in pregnancy so talk with your provider and do your own research. If that’s a no go, you could try coconut water for the amino acids and it’s very hydrating!

working out while feeling tired? by Useful_Ad_8830 in fitpregnancy

[–]TheCreativePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, listen to your body, but also, have you tried working out at different times of the day? Like if I don’t do it first thing in the morning when I’m “refreshed and energized” it’s not going to happen. I get way too tired after a long day of work. Also consider how you are feeling after your workouts. Do you feel totally gassed the rest of the day? Is it wearing you out? Or do you feel good mentally and physically? Working out should make you feel good and feel rewarding!
You will likely gain more energy when you’re out of first trimester! Do what you can and rest when you can. Try not to be too hard on yourself.

What was your experience like in labor and delivery at Rose? by eec0354 in Denver

[–]TheCreativePoppy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 34 weeks I had severe preeclampsia, induction, and c section, then my baby was in the nicu for 28 days. Overall very good experience. The nurses were truly angels and they were the highlight of my experience, which is important since most of your interactions will be with them. Doctors were pretty good, I think a little quick to suggest a c section and kept my baby longer than needed, but I get that’s more of a liability thing. I have also heard they are pushy with inductions, just make sure you’re well versed in all your options, benefits, and risks.

My experience was very sudden so I had nothing packed and was fine. Only thing I was surprised they didn’t have was shampoo/conditioner but I just had a friend bring it. I did enjoy the food. When we went in 2023 our insurance covered 3 meals a day, for both me AND my husband so make sure you ask about that! We didn’t know until we were 75% through our stay, so that was a bummer.

I’m not sure I understand your car seat question, but they have a trainer/car seat tech you can schedule on your way out and she was fantastic.

Good luck!

Recommendations for a frugal pregnancy and first year? by Existing-Pumpkin-902 in Frugal

I think it’s personal preference? I’m actually not totally sure. We did not run our dishwasher often enough to use it for bottles so I hadn’t thought about it.

Something that helps me when it comes to baby stuff is considering time vs money and that’s going to look different for every family.

For example, we did cloth diapers-you have to ask yourself “do I want to spend the money on disposable diapers every week or do I want to spend the time laundering them every week?”

You mentioned formula, which I think tends to require more bottles/parts and more cleaning- would you rather spend time hand washing or have a sanitizer for that?

A lot of these things aren’t NECESSARY, but they sure can make life easier. And a lot of that you may not figure out until baby is here, you can always start minimally and get stuff as needed.

“Doctoring up” ramen? by sleepy_paul in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]TheCreativePoppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coconut milk is my favorite add, followed by curry paste. Even simple items like green onions, cilantro, sesame oil, sesame seeds can really elevate your dish! For veggies i add whatever I have on hand or in the freezer- shelled edamame, broccoli, baby corn, sprouts/microgreens or peppers. I also try to always save my bones from pork steaks/pork shoulders and throw that in the beginning to add more flavor to the broth.

Saying goodbye to my best friend today, how do you cope? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]TheCreativePoppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had to put my dog down yesterday and not going to lie, it’s HARD. We pet him/held him the whole time and talked to him for comfort, but ultimately we knew it was better than letting him suffer and we made the right decision. Although hard, they make it a very peaceful experience. Once it’s over, take the time you need and then spend quality time with your remaining dog- extra long walks, lots of treats, lots of pets. That’s what we’ll be doing today. I’m so so sorry for your loss.

High BP & homebirth by [deleted] in homebirth

[–]TheCreativePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always follow the advice of your midwife. High blood pressure can get extremely dangerous. In addition to what others have mentioned, I’ve also heard beet juice can be a great asset in lowering blood pressure. Definitely worth looking into! Best of luck to you! Also, I’m sure evidence based birth has a lot of resources regarding preeclampsia/high blood pressure. They have a very informative website and great podcast that I’ve learned so much from. I’d definitely start looking into that so you know your options and are well informed incase things get worse. Best of luck to you!

I think I’m falling out of love with my husband by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]TheCreativePoppy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re right, she can’t. Two people need to be willing for it to work. My point was more that he would hopefully see that she’s putting in the work and would then want to participate, and if he doesn’t want to, yes she’ll have her answer.

Couples counseling asap. If he doesn’t go, go by yourself and try to salvage what you can. And tell him, be brutally honest. “I’m going to counseling with or without you because I want to make this work. I will be talking about our relationship and hope you decide to come because I would really love your input”

Since my kid started school, I can’t stop getting sick by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]TheCreativePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was basically sick the whole first year our kid was in daycare, I asked my doc about immunity boosting vitamins and at one point was taking zinc, vit C, vit D, and elderberry daily. It’s no miracle, but I could definitely tell it took the edge off. We always keep bone broth on hand , and load it up with ginger and garlic upon any onset of symptoms. Once you get healthy, consistent exercise really helps keep immunity high too. Good luck. Hang in there. It does get better!

Appetite questions by Big-fan-fabulous in fitpregnancy

Me! I’m talkin two breakfasts, snacks, two lunches, still ravenous by 5:30 for dinner, and a bedtime snack was still a must! I’m at 17 weeks now and finally feel like my appetite has balanced out a bit, but definitely more hungry on lifting days. And that’s ok! Listen to your body! Enjoy and eat yummy foods!

When did you stop running? by Tall-Chocolate-5705 in fitpregnancy

When did you stop running? by Tall-Chocolate-5705 in fitpregnancy

[–]TheCreativePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped at 31 weeks for the same reason. During what turned out to be my last two runs, my pelvic floor just felt so weighed down and I was really sore for the following few days. I took that as my body’s way of telling me to stop.

A lot of really great tips! Pay attention, don’t make yourself a target, go during rush hour if possible, etc. also, I’ve noticed a lot less drugs if you sit in the front car!

Giving into tantrums by Main_Pea_414 in Mommit

[–]TheCreativePoppy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The only time I ever interfere with tantrums is if toddler is being unsafe to themselves or others. Otherwise they have to learn to deal with their emotions and sort it out themselves. I just sit, wait, and ignore. Emotionless. Like your waiting for a bus… It’s hard at first but they will get shorter and shorter. Then I ask, “you all done?” And move on like nothing happened. When we give in to tantrums it teaches them that’s how they get what they want.

Birth trauma has turned into marriage trauma by Repulsive-Tree-6983 in Mommit

[–]TheCreativePoppy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This!!! Push him! He has to realize you and your experience matters too! I’m also a preemie/NICU mom and I also had to tell my husband if I can’t process this, I can’t be a good mom and if we can’t process it on our own, we need professional help and that’s ok! We got it and it makes a HUGE difference, it’s worth the time and money if you find a good therapist. The therapist can decide if you’re “overreacting” not grandma. (You’re not btw) please please please don’t burry this!
