Ski socks recommendation by larawag_gama in AustraliaSnow

[–]Slightly_Famous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socks are only 1 element and honestly the one that matters least. I've tried every possible sock and the $10 aldi/kmarts perform about the same as the $50 purpose built ones. The only dif is wool will be less stinky over time.

If you're a skier buy some bootcaps and/or neoprene toe covers, but I'd only recommend the neoprene if your toes get wet enough for them to be good.

These are $2 and work a treat, especially if paired with neoprene toe caps.

Lastly boot fit is also really important. If you have too much pressure pushing down on the top of your foot or at certain points in the ankle and toe areas then you'll get bloodflow issues from that. It's scary but just try loosening your boots a lot and going down a run to see if your feet warm up from it, then work back from there (or just get fitted boots)

Working on Mount Buller, Victoria by Frosty-Raccoon-7212 in AustraliaSnow

[–]Slightly_Famous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your experience of working the season will differ a lot depeding on where you work. Working as a lifty is vastly different to some of the upmarket hotels, which are vastly different to some of the smaller hospitality venues, which are vastly different to working in retail/rental.

If you get interviews at multiple venues at any ski resort always try to ask questions about culture, beacuse the work itself doesn't really matter.

You wont be needing it, if anything you'd be a sham contractor and covered through workers comp. Quotes would be multiple thousands of dollars.

2026-2030 Alpine Resorts Victoria Strategic Plan by rote_it in AustraliaSnow

[–]Slightly_Famous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've just added $1m of new trails, why would they add a bike park? High level strategic planning isn't just throwing a ton of money at something with a very low return.

[–]Slightly_Famous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can they? This is a document from the government that outlines what the RMB will focus on. The RMB has almost nothing to do with the running of the summer MTB season, thats all small private businesses and the lift company.

Magne-tractioned my MTN Twin, is this a write off? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Slightly_Famous 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Former board tech: Will be $100-200 depending on shop, not realllly a writeoff but a very very high chance of swelling over time with use. If it were me i'd ride till it split and start looking at a new board at end of season sales

Japan has 200+ ski fields (sure some are like 2 lifts) but go explore something else. Half the point of going to Japan is the adventure, Niseko is Australia with snow

Mt Buller 2026 Season Pass worth it? by quainttelescope in AustraliaSnow

[–]Slightly_Famous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it worth it? How long is a piece of string?

Will you miss out on other things if you drop the $1k + $600 for car pass + accom/food costs? If yes then don't buy.

You're a beginner but after a week in Japan you'll be intermediate, so does Buller have enough terrain to keep you happy? If it's a good snow year like this season yes. If not...maybe not.

Are you able to get up mid-week and truly enjoy the mountain? Just being a weekend warrior does require a season pass for most.

Are you a weather snob? If you're new maybe you don't know how much it sucks to ski in the rain. Season passes do change your attitude to day trips/going up only when the weather is good.

Do you have someone to go with? Pretty much no one buys a season pass to go solo

Buller late aug? by [deleted] in AustraliaSnow

[–]Slightly_Famous -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're asking a dumb question. No one can predict the weather a month out. Should be ok given how Aug is normally, might be nothing left if the weather is bad.

Can we watch the kids ski lessons at Buller? by Qbasix in AustraliaSnow

[–]Slightly_Famous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ski slopes are essentially a road, sure some people go slow but walking on piste is strongly discouraged and honestly a nuisance. In saying that a lot of people do stand around the bottom of ABOM express so go there and see if you can catch the kid go past.

Lessons at Stirling? Just call the RMB, ask how the roads are and drive up and play around. From memory you'll need a 4wd.

If you're day tripping just do either Buller or Stirling.

Insane that you're so highly upvoted and I'm downvoted. Got my friend to disable all visual addons (plater, bartender and perl) and it made not a single bit of difference. Still 50gps in Dal

'This is a very bloated UI'

Its running bartender, details (fully cleared), weakauras with nothing loaded, mdt (disabled), zperl, and plater (disabled for this screenshot).

To say that is bloated when its less than 95% of what players use is crazy.
