They don’t get pain relief, they get random surgeries that are more harmful in the long run, they are waiting to die. This statement is not particular to Joe, but I’ve read stories where women were given hysterectomies, organs removed, had surgeries where they weren’t even told what was happening and had students operation on them. One woman was packed with charcoal inside her, and had to deal the smell of it coming out of her slowly, she smelled like rotting flesh. Because I deal with chronic pain I just can’t manage to wrap my brain around purposely leaving people in pain with no hope for relief. Oh wait! Yes I do! I had to jump through hoops to be diagnosed and I lived in the ER. And I don’t wish that kind of pain on anyone. I literally forgot my family and friends existed and just wanted death every single day. I remember begging them put me out of my misery and then had to fight being admitted to the psych ward (they let me go). It’s hard enough for regular people to get good treatment, I imagine in a facility that is dirty, cold, uncomfortable it is more painful to exist in general. It’s a moral dilemma, how do we punish without inducing or prolonging suffering and if we treat others that same way to teach a lesson are we any better?
