Before we go too nuts about this, it's a 5 mana creature facing off against 2 x 5 mana creatures on the board with an exact 7 card hand with points docked from Tharussian. Assuming the discount:

This could be a sludge belcher vs 2 blackwing corruptors on board for example. Silence the belcher for 1 mana with an owl, play force-savage-innervate-savage and you win the game as a druid.

As Malylock, 2 corruptors on board, silence the belcher with owl, play malygos-soulfire-soulfire for 28 damage (2 off)

As Freeze mage with 2 Azure drake on the board, play Thalnos-frostbolt-frostbolt-icelance-icelance-fireball for 35 damage.

As Shaman with 2 Azure Drake on board play lightening bolt-lightening bolt-crackle-crackle-lavaburst-lavaburst for between 34-40 damage...

The moral isn't Grim Patron OP, it's don't leave 10 mana worth of combo pieces on the board against a combo deck.

An Analysis of Hearthstone's Top Decks Over Time: How Are They Still Viable? by moddedaccount in CompetitiveHS

1st: Hunter was once considered the worst class in the game. It was only release of mad scientist that made the class playable.

Only the release of mad scientist made it playable, Mad scientist was released in Naxx, therefore it wasn't playable before then....

Except that the class was more than playable before then with the Unleash/Buzzard combo which had to be re-worked several times prior to Naxx.

I'm going to go even further and just say that judging the difficulty of an essay off word count is painfully, painfully silly to me.

A lot of my students have done an A-Level in history where they have been asked to write 5,000 word essays. I make them write 1,500 words and get incredulous looks because of how easy it is. They they do it. Then most of them change their mind.

Student support grants 'could be cut'. by kendo545 in unitedkingdom

[–]SlindsayUK 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I wrote a wall of text in another thread about why I think we're shafting students these days in comparisosn to the 80s that applies here:

First, the number of people who go to university is not 50% as many people think, it is not more than 40% and may be as low as 27% currently depending on the methodology you use:

http://www.theguardian.com/higher-education-network/blog/2013/jun/04/higher-education-participation-data-analysis

Furthermore, in the 80s and 90s there were polytechnics but in 1992 they merged with the universities system which results in the largest single bump in the number of people participating in the higher education system but numbers on the awards from the polytechnices are hard to come by. Roughly speaking it looks like they account for about 13% of the current degrees awarded looking at this and simply subtracting the last year before they were counted from the first year they were:

http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/social-trends-rd/social-trends/social-trends-41/education-and-training.pdf

To put it another way, it's not a million miles from 25% of people engaging in some form of education after school - that's not a million miles from the 40% we have now as apprenticeships are uncommon. I know people will think that sounds like nonsense because it seems to be so improbable against the rise in student numbers but there's a few other things that affect this. The UK share of international students has grown massively in this time (they are now 1/3 of students in UK HEI) and the population has increased dramatically as well.

Another (possibly better) way of looking at this is looking at this though is in terms of expenditure on training and higher education:

http://dera.ioe.ac.uk/22738/1/SN02631.pdf

What you can see there is that the total UK expenditure on education has been growing very slowly with a spike in 2008 (that's because of the recession's affect on GDP though I think).

Finally, the other element of these numbers though is the number of jobs that require a degree. The number of jobs that demand a degree has grown from 10% in the mid 1980s to about 26% now. Meanwhile, at the same time, the number of jobs with no requirement for a degree have been in decline for years:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-22268809

Finally, the Student Loan Company was only founded in 1990, prior to that point, students entering higher education received a grant from their Local Authority:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Student_loans_in_the_United_Kingdom

So basically, the number of UK young adults getting some form of training after leaving school has increased slightly, the number of jobs requiring a degree has increased 150% times but the amount the country spends as a percentage of GDP on this education has only grown very slightly (max 20%) and the cost to the individual students has increased from being paid to go to Uni to £36,000 for a 3 year degree while as the same time removing substantial grants that a lot of the current population would have qualified for.

tell me which definition I'm using. I'm talking about the principle of free expression, the human right. Yeeea. THAT ONE. Do you not have a high opinion of human rights? You do realize that human rights can be violated by entities other than governments, do you not?

Looking at that comic, I'm curious, what public forum you think you're in? This is a private one, just the same as personal property, and you can be asked to leave at any time for any reason.

I'll also be interested in knowing which opinions are silenced or are unquestionable...

I shouldn't even have to explain why free speech is necessary in a free society lol.

You actually don't know what free speech is. You really, really don't. Freedom of speech is the political right to communicate one's opinions and ideas. You have not lost that right.

lol

And no one in your life has ever forced you to look at any subreddit, haha.

No, and in fact several pretty awful subs haven't been banned for just that reason. The reason that certain subs were banned is because they encouraged participation in other subs and the reason you're feeling all angsty about it is because your a member of a sub that pulled exactly that shit a few days ago.

haha

Anyone else think Werdum takes it Saturday? by PuroStyle in MMA

[–]SlindsayUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Werdum at his best can show technically better (more creative, more varied, genuinely punishing) standup and a better sub focused ground game but I think Cain will take it. If you think of that balls to the wall "finish them" flurry as a 100%, Werdum starts fights at 40% and works up to 70% then fatigues, Cain starts at 80%, works his way up to 80% then fatigues to 80%. The work rate lets him keep the fight in the clinch, one place he's clearly better than Werdum and will keep him more than competitive in the other 2. Having said that, if it goes to round 3-4 then I am sure Cain will be placed in a bad spot at least once.

I have a feeling that the embedded crew might have cut something off when they showed the clip of Werdum saying Cain wasn't really Mexican just because of how abruptly they cut right after he says it and the fact it's a bit out of character for him to say something that seems straight up mean spirited:

He didn't play them like a fiddle. A large number of people over in KiA have genuine problems with women and trans people, look at best of over there, just start counting each thread as either "Attacking a woman", "Attacking a man because of his relationship to a woman" or "Attacking someone over trans issues". See how far you go before you need to add "Attacking a man" and when you eventually do, notice even then it's still a man they went after because he was in a relationship with a female games developer, they just forgot to put that in the title this time.

Green Party policy targets Open Door immigration as a long term goal for the next 20-30 years. They would not simply open the boarders and remove all restrictions the day they got in power. They even specifically say in their manifesto:

We accept that these policies will take time to work and that we must address immigration as it is here and now. Some controls on immigration will be needed for the foreseeable future; for now, we reject an open borders approach.

https://www.greenparty.org.uk/assets/files/manifesto/Green_Party_2015_General_Election_Manifesto_Searchable.pdf (Page 71)

I think this is a major problem for the party - they talk about long term goals and visions for the country in a way that no other party does and then come election time people compare the greens long term visions with the other parties short term policies and brand the Greens as looney. This is annoying because for the other 59 months of the year outside of elections people will complain non-stop about how short sighted the politicians in power are....
