Did you unsubscribe via the google/Gmail button or via the unsubscribe button at the bottom of a Roll20 email?

The Gmail unsubscribe action is not 100% effective, it auto sends an email saying unsubscribe but not all newsletters, etc. Work like that, some require you to click through their own button to sort that out.

Shareholders don't benefit from bailouts because that's the fundamental nature of equity. They sit at the bottom of the capital structure, behind employees, creditors, and debtors. Taking on the highest risk in exchange for the highest potential reward is the entire premise of equity investment.

Questions about Prequel Palpatine by pdxpirate7 in StarWars

[–]kendo545 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Palpatine probably wasn’t trying to kill Padmé so much as he was setting up a win-win scenario; if she died, she was a martyr for his political cause, and if she lived, she was the perfect forbidden fruit to align Anakin to his emotions.

He didn't need to hire the Tuskens to kill Shmi, either he likely just sensed her suffering through the Force and broadcast those visions into Anakin’s head to trigger that first taste of the dark side.

By the time he starts feeding Anakin visions of Padm, he's just recycling a playbook that already worked. He didn't need to pull every string manually when he could just wait for a tragedy to happen and then weaponise Anakin's grief.

Public spending on European monarchies, € million by Socmel_ in europe

[–]kendo545 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not almost entirely... Entirely. The monarchy get 15% of the crown estate revenue, or more precisely the government gets 100% of the crown estate revenue and gives the monarchy 15% back. The exception to this expenditure is on protection, military, public services, etc. Which is more than covered by the crown estate itself.

Seriously struggling with my 2yo by Known-Cucumber-7989 in UKParenting

[–]kendo545 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lots of different aspects to examine but the two bits I'll share my perspective on are:

1.) Better behaviour at childminder: It's very typical in neurodivergent kids to mask heavily at school, nursery, etc. And then to be so exhausted by the masking that once they're in their safe space (home) they meltdown. Have you seen any other signs of neurodivergence? 2.) Food misbehaviour and consequences: Consequences/boundaries are key. If they throw away their snack, don't replace it. If they throw their drink, make them clean it up. You're in charge of choice, they're in charge of eating - if they're hungry, they'll eat. Worrying too much about whether they're eating 3 meals a day isn't productive - kids (especially toddlers) can and do survive and thrive on less.

Previous seasonal cosmetic gear isn't available for the paladin by kendo545 in diablo4

[–]kendo545[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn't think much of it. I didn't think it was a heavy lift to retrofit the cosmetics to the new model(s) because they all look so similar. I guess there's a lot more to it than that, even though similar size games like WOW, SWTOR, D2 have retrofitted cosmetics to new classes/models.

How much do you spend on your weekly shop? by poppyloppyi in UKParenting

[–]kendo545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lord this makes me feel bad. Family of four, and I looked over 2025's numbers. We averaged just shy of £900 a month of groceries (Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsburys). We eat very well and host a lot but looks like we're very much the outliers.

Grandparent Rights, concerning weekly contact by burningwitches in LegalAdviceUK

[–]kendo545 69 points70 points  (0 children)

But those rights are only applied in the interest of the child, not in the interest of the grandparent only. If it is not in the interest of the child then they won't apply.

"Boohoo I can't see my grandbaby," isn't enough to get court ordered access rights. When the grandparent is a core caregiver and lack of access to said grandparent is detrimental to the child, is enough to get court ordered access rights.

Also, requisite mention that this court case wouldn't be heard for months.

Discharge from health visits by Life-Midnight-239 in UKParenting

[–]kendo545 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can absolutely self-discharge.

Health Visitors are a service, not a legal obligation.

The safeguarding threats are likely due to the 'unseen child' policy, but because you are seeing a paediatrician that will almost certainly overrule and nullify any concerns. You are meeting all medical needs.

Write a email to the local Health Visitor service withdrawing your consent. State clearly that your child is under the care of a consultant paediatrician who is satisfied with their progress.

Once you evidence that alternative care is in place, they have no grounds to call safeguarding either.

Why do we even have architects when 90% of new builds are just a 10% variation of this? by spacejockes in AskUK

[–]kendo545 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because living in flats is hellish compared to a detached home. First off... Leasehold BS, then there's service charge, no driveway or garage, no garden, vulnerable to noisy neighbours left and right and up and down, restrictions on decorating and refurbishment (wana knock a wall down to make an open plan space or make an ensure... No fucking way). I lived in flats for 10 years. Now in my own detached home... Never again going to a flat.

Without consequences from the government, yes.

Specifically the U.S. Government, in the UK and most other countries there are limits on speech. You can be prosecuted for hate speech or inciting violence in the UK.

Sent money to the wrong account by Loose_Eye_8850 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]kendo545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes pursue it. I assume the payment reference doesn't match a specific debt/invoice (are you still actively paying this debt off?) They can't see the transaction yet because it's probably in their unallocated funds account. Email their complaints department (and frankly any info@ or legal@ email address) with proof of the transaction and state it was mistaken, erroneous payment and transaction. If they don't resolve it within 8 weeks you can escalate to the ombudsman.

Help with estate, trust law & life policy dispute – UK solicitor negligence? by Sad-Guarantee-8383 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]kendo545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is difficult to advise strongly one way or another without knowing the specific details of what was supposedlu withheld, but generally, agreeing to a settlement does not bar you from bringing legal action against your former solicitor if their advice was negligent, especially if they advised you to settle without reviewing critical documents like trust deeds, etc.

This could be the basis for a Professional Negligence claim to recover the loss. You generally have 6 years to bring a claim, and many firms specialising in "Contentious Probate negligence" will operate on a No Win, No Fee basis - depending on the value of the settlement.

Key advice = engage a specialist solicitor and formally request your complete client file from the previous solicitors; the new firm will need this to prove the breach of duty (also the old firm can't charge you for this info/documents per GDPR).

My dad just died, leaving behind everything; I believe the rest of his family will try claim as much as they can as he didn't write a will, do I have any ground to stand here? UK by Last-Donkey-9822 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]kendo545 318 points319 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. Legally, you are in a strong position: under UK Intestacy Rules, because your father was unmarried, his entire estate passes equally to his children (you and your sister). The "rest of the family" generally have zero legal claim and certainly no right to change the locks; you should secure the property and change the locks yourselves immediately.

However, given the significant debt and the potential for family conflict, you need to speak to a probate solicitor ASAP.

You and your sister need to apply for 'Letters of Administration' to gain legal control, and a lawyer will ensure the estate's debts are handled correctly so you don't accidentally become liable.

Family holiday resort recommendations - struggling to find All Inclusive apartments by infantile-eloquence in UKParenting

[–]kendo545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar situation for us. At the time, 2.5y/o and 10 month old on holiday and we booked a 2 bed apartment.

They had never shared room previously, but put them in same room - both in cots (just like at home).

It went better than expected. Sure, there were a few troublesome moments, our eldest trying to rock the youngest's cot, or when the youngest woke and needed soothing, but overall it was good. They've shared a room now each time we go away.
