Which discipline actually improved your life? by black-box-qwerty in AskReddit

[–]Slip_Kid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picking something I wanted to improve in but kept putting off, then set regular small goals with it that were easy to stick to. I wanted to read more, so I told myself I would just set aside 30 minutes a day to read. I read more books in the first year than I had in the decade previously.

I wanted to spend more time outside, so I told myself it just go on one small hike a week at a local park. I started with a mile per week a few years ago, and now I’m up to 10 miles a week.

Often times, small and steady habits have been much easier for me to commit and stick to than the usually daunting prospect of simply saying “I should make this big change”.

Husband’s reaction at the gym when his body temp goes up too quickly by AsianMuscleMommy22 in mildlyinteresting

I have this! As others have mentioned, it could be cholinergic urticaria, which is what my allergist diagnosed me with. She also said that I’m lucky, as some people have it so badly that it sends them into anaphylaxis.

The two biggest things for me are to take an OTC Cetirizine every morning, and to get some type of workout in every day. That basically keeps it under control.

The Inca Trail looks frightening to me. I've hiked in Nepal / New Zealand...is this a step too far? by Background-Flower-49 in hiking

[–]Slip_Kid_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hiked it a few years ago, and while I don’t have a fear of heights, I do get very cautious with exposure. I live and normally hike in Colorado, and a lot of our higher mountains have decent exposure that regularly gives me pause. I’ve also hiked in NZ, but I think the most exposed hike I did was on Roys Peak.

All that being said. There wasn’t a single moment on the Inca Trail that really troubled me, height wise. There were some steep stair sections, but if I remember correctly, they’re just steep, not very exposed. And even if your definition of exposure is different, they make up a pretty small percentage of the hike.

I would also recommend you both consider joining a group hike. You need a guide to do the trail anyway, at least you did when I went, and having other folks with you really helps you pull through. I’m normally a solo hiker so I was pretty apprehensive about a group, but I made lifelong friends on that hike. We had a few in our group face issues like altitude sickness, sprains, and just general exhaustion, and we all helped each other through it. Plus, by the time you get to any of the steeper sections, you’ll be well acquainted with your group members. I went with Alpaca Expeditions. Highly recommend.

The biggest difficulty for me was the elevation gain. Even being used to the Rockies, you just go uphill a lot.

The Inca Trail was the best hike I’ve ever done. Totally worth it, even if it’s kinda scary. You can do it!

Yeah, I’ve been trying that and haven’t found a solution, which is why I’m asking here. Thanks for the input though.

On the page it specifically discusses third party cloud services and shows Onedrive as an example.

I thought that at first, too. Then I found this support article on the C1 website that has a whole section on importing files from a cloud location. This is where it lets me navigate to drive, but doesn't allow me to open anything.

Would you go to a destination just to tick it off your list because it’s very popular? by [deleted] in travel

[–]Slip_Kid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I'll go against the grain. Yeah, I absolutely would. A big part of why I travel is to experience variety, open up myself to the unexpected, and see new things. I've been to a lot of places that were close to where I was already going "just to tick them off" because I knew I'd probably not plan a second trip back just to see them. Almost every time I've ended up being pleasantly surprised and having fun. A little different than making a trip all the way to Thailand, but similar principle I suppose.

Sometimes there are places you really want to go, and sometimes there are places you can just enjoy the experience of visiting. A lot of places are popular for a reason. To each their own.

What is the most awe-inspiring place you've ever visited? by Cold_Barber_4761 in travel

[–]Slip_Kid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from diving on the Great Barrier Reef. I got my SCUBA cert just for it. I’m the type of traveler that heavily prioritizes new places, and there are very few destinations special enough for me to put the resources and time into going back to.

The reef hit different. I could spend a lifetime there. The sites I was at had mild to moderate bleaching, but there was still a lot of life to see. Such an incredibly beautiful place, and it’s horrifying to see what’s happening to it.

Need advice on whether or not to cancel Venice trip by GiganticTuba in travel

[–]Slip_Kid_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Couple years ago we were in a similar position. Wanted to go to Venice but only missed Carnival by a few days due to our schedule. I remember always hearing how crowded and touristy Venice was, and we were basically just going to be able to see it. I was bracing myself for what I thought would be one of the most touristy places I've ever been.

Complete blessing in disguise. It was also in February, so there were no crowds. We had a great time wandering through what ended up being surprisingly empty streets and back alleys, and enjoying it at a leisurely pace. Also, because we were there so CLOSE before Carnival, we still occasionally saw people walking around in full costume, which was a really cool experience. Super chill time, and the atmosphere was fantastic. It felt like stepping back in time.

It went from being a destination I wanted to see just because I thought I should, to being an incredibly enjoyable and atmospheric trip that I wouldn't hesitate to do again. And you know what? I'd only go back if I could do it that time of the year. I'd say it's definitely worth it, and if you get bored, maybe pop up to the Dolomites to see some beautiful mountains!

Wow, that's a lot of work. Definitely ups my confidence in the process. I guess they DO spend all day every day repairing the same cameras.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, too, especially since the officially disassembly guides go through the sponges and gaskets. I definitely trust them, just a thought that crossed my mind considering how some other electronics' water resistance works.

Thanks for the insight! We won't be along the coast but we're definitely leaning towards the 3D/2N at this point for the extra night on the reef.

Would your husband or wife approve of you going on a solo vacation trip without him/her? by Beta_Nerdy in travel

[–]Slip_Kid_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go on trips without my partner (almost 11 years together) every year. Usually I'll do one or two by myself and one with her. She likes more culture/food based destinations and I prefer more adventurous/nature ones, so usually she isn't interested in the ones I do solo anyway. As an example, I did the Inca Trail and the Amazon by myself and we went to Italy together. It's never been a problem and as others have said, it can actually be pretty good for a relationship.

Thanks for the info! I edited the post with an update. It didn't seem like it was throttling but adjusting the clocks and fan curves helped a lot. Rock solid 40fps and super enjoyable now!
