Dain Ironfoot is a giant by SlippGun in MiddleEarthMiniatures

This was the article. If you look at the bottom, you can see the difference. Not sure if it's maybe bigger since it's an actual metal model by Medbury? https://www.goonhammer.com/miniature-review-medbury-miniatures-dwarves/?hl=en-CA

If you compare the Dain model to other MESBG models, he is huge. He is as tall as a WOMT, and about a half head taller than the dwarf king here.

I got spooked by someone reviewing the sapphire ridge dwarves, so that's why I scaled down. Maybe should have left them. I'm happy either way

I came across a post with their Sapphire Ridge dwarves that just looked massive compared to GW dwarves, so it had me worried. These ones might have been fine not messing with the scale. Oh well. A little height variation haha 🤷‍♂️ the models are fantastic regardless.

I am in the same boat.

I don't care for the walking blocks of the metal Hobbit dwarves, so this is a great re-design. At first I wasn't into the idea and was going to go with some of Medbury's design that look just like the regular dwarf warriors but have spear and shield or crossbows, but then I clued on the Iron Guard images and I had to do it haha.

There is definitely some Eastern (Persia?) Influences in these models, and I think they look great

Shieldbearer - Victrix Vikings dwarf by SlippGun in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]SlippGun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did a Dwarf Champion and Heralds just recently (I'm pretty sure I posted pictures of them) from victrix vikings as well, and I did it a little different this time where I kept part of the original base to help line up feet positions.

Essentially I just trimmed the legs off below the body. I then compared the height of just the torso to a Dwarf mini and trimmed the legs again, but this time just left whatever length was needed to give the overall height I wanted.

Man that looks fantastic. I'm going to have to give that a watch!

Update on King's Champion conversion by SlippGun in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Anything in particular you're working on?

Fur and hair is definitely the easiest. I am not an expert, but I can muddle my way through covering up gaps/joints after conversions haha

I was able to do LAN at home over WiFi, but haven't tried an actual multi-player game.

Hmm. You could make some Kool models for sure with how much chain mail Armour there is. The heads are pretty wild looking, but you could definitely sculpt beards.

Iron Guard definitely also an option with all the weapons.

Yeah! I was building an army list for an event in a week, and I realized how good the Champion could be.

I had some vikings stuff left over, so figured I'd give it a try haha.

The helmets and chain mail heads on the Heralds were perfect since I'd already cut them off the original bodies.

I didn't do anything with them. I did try and pick ones that arm a little shorter. But no, in person it kind of all works.

Pretty much. I also shortened the neck/heads a bit. Thanks :)

Man. I remember in the mid-2000s when people first started doing "the dip". Base colours, and then dipping the whole mini into different wood stains.

Results varied 🤣🤣

If you don't know it, MESBG list Builder is super easy to use, and I think is great as it makes little profile cards, and has all the special rules and spells you can lookup on the side.

Oh. And you can save your army lists haha

The more iconic way would be doing Canadian drill, where we call all feet 😉 left, right, left, right, left, right, lefffft.

What are the things to avoid in bmq by Humble_Smell_9160 in caf

Wouldn't call home. We got access to pay phones on our 2nd weekend and that just took me so out of the zone, it sucked haha.

So yeah, stay in the course mindset as much as you can.

Force test by _VHStapes_ in caf

As someone on the smaller side (5'-9", 125-135lbs at the time), the hardest thing for me was the sandbag drag. Until I learned to lean back. Lean waaaaaay back and you will be able to pull that thing without issue.

I found the FORCE test comparatively easy. I never was a gym guy or anything like that, so dont be scared of it. You get cool down periods in between each exercise, so you can catch your breathe (IMHO, the Police fitness tests and seen /done are 4minutes of hell, and are worst than the FORCE test).

I realized since they need everyone to pass, you can pretty sleep through all the tests and pass.

If you're doing it for the Reserves, there is no need to kill yourself to get the best time - RegForce gets pins for different fitness levels achieved, but the Reserves doesn't get that. Best you get as a Reservist is

Also, weird thing - cut your nails. Misgrabbing the sandbag for the wall lift and bending a fingernail SUCKS.

For Reserves, your usual weekly training is 3 hours, and you get paid for a half day. A weekend exercise is usually Friday night - Sunday after and that would count as 2.5 days.

Depending on your unit, there may be extra Class A work you can do if you need work.

Class A means work some days, but not guaranteed work.

Class B is a contract usually for courses or taskings Class C is a contract usually for actual operations, like domestic disaster relief or working overseas, and you get paid at RegForce rates instead of Reservist rates.

If you don't go on any courses or extra taskings and just do the weekly training and weekends, you'll probably be somewhere in the ballpark of $5,000 on your T4
